This book was excellent in giving us advice for which rides to ride, which rides to skip, which places to eat at, and which places to skip (because of the cost, haha). It even has fold out maps so we didn't have to get them separately and tote them all around, and they were very helpful--we used them every day. It also tells you the costs of all the hotels, if you're looking for that, as well. We especially enjoyed Port Orleans French Quarter. This book even has a special place for character autographs for your children so you don't have to buy one for $10! Buy this book and enjoy your trip even more!

I received my copy today of the Passporter 2005. This will be our first trip to WDW and now we are even more excited after reading through this book!!! I love that it is so compact, yet FULL of helpful information. Also, I like that the book can be closed so nothing will fall out. It is perfect to take into the Parks. It is like the Walt Disney World "Bible". A must for first time travelers to WDW!!!!

This is a wonderful book. It is cleverly written and organized with lots of ample room for the reader to journal, take notes and store paper momentos. I can hardly wait to take this with me on our Walt Disney World Vacation in a few short weeks. The authors have provided AWESOME information to make sure that my family has a great vacation. If you are looking for the perfect tour guide to WDW this is it!

I LOVE this book!!! I live in FL but hadn't been to Disney in years, so I decided to buy a planning book before our big trip. Well, I sure got more than I bargained for with this book. It has useful information about every resort, restaurant and ride...and more! The passporter pockets make it convenient to store your hotel confirmations, priority seating confirmations and tickets prior to your trip. The fold-out maps are great too!

In addition to the wealth of information provided in the book, Jennifer and Dave have a wonderful website that I highly recommend for more information about Disney, including updates to the book. If you are planning a Disney trip OR if you just love WDW, GET THIS BOOK. I can't say enough about it.

If you have read any of the other reviews you already know this series inspires strong praise and I agree with all of it. I'd like to add one more reason to appreciate this book- there is NO approximation of the WDW LOGO! you may be wondering why that would be a good thing so I'll tell you. We have a 4year old who can not read yet but has the brand recognition skills of a savant- I have had this book for a few days and not a shread of curiosity about it yet. Which translates into PEACEFUL planning. We won't be tackling the mouse till Dec. and I don't think I can stand almost 3 months of "IS IT TIME YET?????"

The author is such a gifted writer, it's hard to believe he's actually a seasoned ER doctor too.

This is a man who tries to bring humanity to an environment which is chronically understaffed and where patients and their families can, at times, be unappreciative or even hostile. There's not a single sentence that doesn't ring true, nor a hint of self-importance or arrogance.

Another takeaway, at least for this reader: the author never suggests he's underpaid - even though he obviously is.

Buy this book to de-mystify the ER. It's likely that one day you'll be there yourself, or waiting for someone else.

Paul Austin's book Something for the Pain is compelling from the first chapter. What makes it riveting is the truth of his observations about the medical life and his willingness to reveal his inner struggle.

As a Nurse-Midwife, and author of The Blue Cotton Gown: A Midwife's Memoir, [[ASI N:0807072893 The Blue Cotton Gown: A Midwife's Memoir]] I know that self-revelation is risky. You must ask yourself, how will I feel if my patients read this.

As the spouse of an OB/Gyn, I know that physicians are trained to exhibit confidence. For a doc to share his inner life, his sadness, emotional isolation and doubt, is a gift.

Every physician and nurse should read this book. Every health care provider in training should read this book. Everyone who has ever gone to a doctor or will go to a doctor should read this book, and that includes all of us.

Dr. Paul Austin will take you in the ER and reflect on his personal life

What a great story about Dr.Paul Austin and his life inside and outside of the ER. The story was very personal and moving. This story gave me a look inside of what goes on in the ER and how it feels to the patient, and the doctor treating you. This is a book to read for inspiration and the true reality of life inside & outside of the ER.
Buy it as a gift for someone! It will change their way of thinking.

Review Date: 2008-11-15
In his new memoir, Something for the Pain: One Doctor's Account of Life and Death in the ER, Paul Austin takes a clear-eyed look at the profession he has chosen---that of a doctor in a metropolitan Emergency Room, who frequently works what other (less superstitious) professionals might term "the Graveyard Shift."

Within the covers of this thoughtful and moving debut, Austin graciously allows us an insider's look at the struggles and rewards of his job, as well as the toll it can take on a growing family, especially when the detrimental effects of persistent sleep-deprivation fray nerves and breed frustration. (When the author finds an innovative way around these struggles, we silently cheer for his ingenuity and for the sake of his patient, empathetic wife, herself a former nurse.)

Unlike many of our nation's first responders (and ER doctors are definitely first responders), Austin and his ilk often don't get the respect that a fireman (which Austin has also been) or a paramedic might, and they certainly don't receive the full measure of respect they're due. (Have you ever tried staying up all night, on constant alert, dealing with bleeding, vomiting, angry people---many of them drunk and violent---or patients with chest pains and grisly car crash wounds that need immediate attention and split-second medical decisions? All this, while frequent understaffing creates delays that in turn create patients so angry that once they are finally seen it can complicate the process of diagnosis? ...I thought not.)

With equal measures of honesty and empathy, Paul Austin has created a timeless memoir that deserves a wide readership. As Richard Selzer's "Letters to a Young Doctor" helped to open the public's eyes to the general practitioner, so can "Something for the Pain" give us important insights into the working conditions for an ER physician. I do know that without a doubt, the next time I visit an ER, no matter my circumstances, I plan to extend a measure of empathy to the doctor on duty and not just expect it. And I plan to be thoroughly grateful--and definitely sober.

this book is great! it follows the real life happenings of a nicu in california. it follows the cases of several families, through their ups adn downs, and everything in between. there are babies that recover fine, some that recover with problems, adn some do die. it also talks about things from the doctors and nurses perspectives, and gives some history of neonatology. a great book for preemie parents, non preemie parents (i am not, and just loved this book), doctors, nurses, etc. very good read.

Interesting Christian medical drama

Review Date: 2004-10-17
Co-written by an emergency room medical Doctor and his wife based in Southwest Missouri this book takes the subject of medical drama and adds a Christian perspective to it. I haven't read much of the book (my mother had it and I've bought a copy as a gift)but I see that the author's mention a real hospital or two in southwest Missouri as well as a couple of real towns (I don't think there is really a Knoll but there is a town called Noel).
I'm curious as to which real hospital the Doctor works at, it would be interesting to know if the difficult patient/ Doctor plots are in any way based in reality. I think the Christian faith is a constant theme throughout but it is handled well, no fraud ministers, not pushy in display of faith.

Very good medical fiction with Christian perspective...

Hannah Alexander's "Sacred Trust" introduces us to Dr. Lucas Bower, a Christian doctor who is trying to start over in the small town of Knolls, Missouri in the Ozarks. He runs into problems however, as a envious doctor named Jarvis George has it in for Dr. Bower, and tries very hard to have him fired. Dr. George is a good example of what envy can do to a person. Dr. Bower also makes a few other powerful enemies by doing what he knows is right, including the drug seeking son of a prominent attorney. Dr. Bower is helped out by a sympathetic administor, and another doctor named Mercy Richmond, who is trying to get her daughter back from her alcoholic ex-husband who is also abusive. Alexander makes sure that we don't feel preached at, and Christians are portrayed realisticly, as Ivy and Dr. Bower vehementlyu disagree on the DNR issue, but share the same evangelistic belief. Very good fiction with little weakness.

This was my first read of a book by Hannah Alexander. I read a lot of Christian fiction and am often disappointed in a book's slow beginning. Not this book!! I was immediately taken in by the characters and their lives. All characters were believable and the dialouge was fantastic. I love reading good books...I got so caught up in this one, that I read it in just a couple of days. Then I was frustrated because it was over and I didn't have the next in the series.

I have found a new favorite in this writing team of Hannah Alexander and am anxious for the next in the series "Solemn Oath" to arrive in the mail.

Touching characters, medical accuracy, and a great plot!

I loved this book.

The characters are wonderful and will live in your heart long after you put the book down. Read the other two books in this series, too, which are equally as good.

I enjoyed the very human qualities of the characters -- they were vulnerable yet all had strengths sometimes they didn't even know they had. Even the Christian characters weren't perfect, but true-to-life, especially Dr. Bower whose endearing mishaps only added to the strength of his character.

Sometimes the middle section of a book sags, but that wasn't true with this book. It started out interesting and remained so throughout.

The one disappointment in the end is not knowing what becomes of Lukas's relationship with Mercy. You have to read the other two books to find out!

A thoroughly satisifying book with a strong (though not intrusive) spiritual message.

Like ER, but with positive moral values!

I read a lot of Christian books, but most of them are non-fiction. I'm very selective about the fiction I read - there's just not enough time to read all the good stuff out there! I used to enjoy reading Robin Cook's medical suspense books, so I was glad to see this series of three medical/suspense Christian novels.

This is the first of a series - the second is Solemn Oath and last is Silent Pledge. Reading them in order is highly recommended!

This wonderful series is centered around a small-town hospital emergency room in Missouri.

The medical parts ring true for a good reason - Hannah Alexander is a pen name for a husband/wife writing team and the husband is an ER physician! These books will appeal to both men and women, and contain suspense, drama, a little romance and a lot of inspiration. I became very attached to the characters of Lukas, Mercy, Clarence, Ivy, and many more. The story also paints a wonderful picture of God's forgiveness and grace in the character of Theodore and others' responses to him.

The only downside to these books is that there are only 3 of them and I've read them all...

Happy reading!

Bre, CeeCee, Neesha and Nicky are known as the HOOD RATS. Four friends that each tell their individual stories of love, heartache, and pain. Each girl living the hood life, living the best life they can with what they have.

Bre is the quiet, shy one out of the group. The one that seemingly has it together the most. She is the voice of reason. The one who will intervene between the other friends to keep the peace. She lives vicariously through her girls' lives, since she is more laid back.

CeeCee is a hood rat in every definition of the word. She is a mother of three children whom always seem to be in the care of their grandmother. CeeCee loves to smoke weed, drink and party and although she has a man, she has someone on the side as well. Will she realize that she is playing a dangerous game before it is too late?

Neesha will do whatever and whoever to get what she wants. She does not care what anyone says about her. She has the mentality of a dude when it comes to sex; she will have one coming in the front door and the other leaving out the back. Say what you will but the girl is getting paid. She is the fighter in their clique. You mess with one of her girls, you best believe you are will receive a beat down.

Nicky is the one who has suffered the greatest loss. With all the losses she has experienced she lets life beat her down to the point where she begins trying to cope with the heartache that she has experienced through the use of drugs. It has her doing and acting in ways she normally would not.

When tragedy strikes, the bond of friendship will be tested. In HOOD RATS you will find a story of friendship, love, betrayal, tragedy, lies and deceit. Do not judge this book by its cover because it is not the typical hood book that you would normally get coming out of TCP. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this had positive attributes in it. I look forward to reading more by this author. The story had me constantly turning the pages.

E.R. McNair & Triple Crown have done it again! This is one of the best street novels that I've read in a long time. The tone of the book and it's characters are set at the very beginning with the introduction of the characters. Each person, Ceecee, Brea, Nesha & Nicky has a strong story to tell. With endings that will surprise you. It's a story true to life for many, the difference in this versus so many other street novels is the true to life endings for these 4 young ladies. Each has there own story and their own ending. This book should give hope to those stuck in the life.

As always, Triple Crown has picked an author that stayed true to the game!

THE HOOD RATS
E.R. McNAIR

The Hood Rats by E.R. McNair takes you through the hood of Gary, Indiana through the eyes of four friends, Bre, Nesha, CeeCee and Nicky. As each girl narrates their own ups and downs of their friendship and life on the streets, you'll feel like your right there with them.

While the bond of friendship is tested and easily broken from all of the lies, deceit, and betrayal, will they be able to over come this? E.R. McNair constructs an incredibly realistic storyline mixed with real-life drama. I was about to give up on TCP, but with this new release I'm glad I didn't. I give this and 9.5.

Book well written by E R Mc Nair. I look forward to reading more from this Author

This book is a great source of information about the show "E.R." and the behind the scenes information is great, too. I would recomend this book to anyone that is an "E.R." fan like me and for anyone that bothered to read this review of a great book!

Andrew Bane held more secrets than any possible human could ever imagine. His good looks were what attracted Angela to him, but how would she feel if she only knew the truth?

Both worked at the sports bar Aces High, he was a bouncer, she a waitress and after a year she felt it was time to go for what she wanted and leave her past behind. Andrew vowed something many years ago and it seems his resolve is breaking when he finds his true feelings for Angela.

This is not a happy go lucky love story, there are people who want Andrew dead and they will stop at nothing short of their own lives to see that happen. Only Andrew can not die, he holds a secret that may have been the end of World War II, and when the Beast within rears his head, all should take cover.

Jimmy Gillentine pens an amazing tale of love, horror, betrayal and heartbreak. I can not tell you how quickly you are pulled into the story line, and before you know it the end is upon you. I was pleased to hear there would be a continuation of Mr. Gillentine's work because I will have that on my list to pick up. Absolutely perfect! 5 Hearts

I am such an avid reader that rarely do I come across a book that has the ability to hold my attention for more than a few pages. Jimmy Gillentine's Of Blood and the Moon did just that, and did it superbly. This story was page after page of constant activity that kept the reader wanting more. I found it refreshing that there just wasn't that usual lag-time (toning down) in between scenes which readers all too often find themselves trying to rush through to get back to the story. The characters came alive with a heart-wrenching dilemma that had me rooting for the good guys, yet anticipating sweet revenge for the rotten ones to the very end. Gillentine delivers this to his readers ten-fold. He integrated a touching love story in the midst of this tale of horror that I simply could not get enough of. For anyone looking for a well-told story of love, horror, and lasting hope; this story is the one for you.

There is something almost inspiring when you read Of Blood and the moon, the debut novel of Jimmy Gillentine. When it comes to books, I, personally am extremely cynical with the books I pick up to read. Sometimes, if I buy a book and can't get into in from the first chapter, it stays on my shelf to gather dust, or just stays in the book store among the thousands. But Gillentine's book really got me going from the first page. It built up the suspense to reach an amazing climax at the end.
For a first-time author, there's a lot of promise within the pages of Of Blood and the Moon.
Highly recommended.

Of Blood and the Moon Review

Okay, first, let me make one thing perfectly clear. When it comes to horror, I am extremely picky. There are few authors out there that can hold my interest in a story. I grew up on horror, and I guess it's made me a little cynical.
That out of the way, let me tell you Jimmy Gilletine is one of the new faces of horror. His book, Of Blood and the Moon, is a page turner from begining to end. To call it a thrill ride just dosen't do it enough justice. The characters live and breath in my imagination to the point where I really cared what happened to them, good and bad. Jimmy has done something here that just isn't seen in horror anymore. He drops a love story right in the middle of it, and he makes it work!
All true horror fans: You need to check out this book! You won't be disappointed!

The book had adventure, fun, mystery and danger. The Little Family had to go look for Aunt Lilly after she falls from cousin Dinke's glider. The small family must explore the world of regular size people to find Aunt Lilly. The Little Family use a family cat for their ride as they search the forest. While in the forest they meet large animals and other tiny people called tree and ground tinies. The book ends with the rescue of Aunt Lilly and a journey back to their home in the house of the Big's family. I ernjoyed reading this book.

In "The Littles to the Rescue", Mrs. Little is expecting her third child, and, by tradition, she wants Aunt Lily to deliver it. However, Aunt Lily and her son, Cousin Dinky, live four houses away, which is quite a distance for Tinies (little creatures--approximately 4 - 6 inches tall--that vaguely resemble elves with tails). Nevertheless, Cousin Dinky pilots his mother in his glider plane to the Littles' residence, even though it's in the middle of the night and snowing. However, during the trip, Aunt Lily falls out of the plane and is captured by the reclusive Ground Tinies. A search party is formed to locate Aunt Lily, with the added help of a cat and skunk, who remarkably don't make a meal out of the Littles. But will they find her in time?

This was one of my favorite books (and cartoon series) when I was a kid. It was given to me by my grandmother when I was about eight-years-old. Not only are the black-and-white illustrations terrific, but the Littles are extremely resourceful and imaginative in this story, using most things people throw away as tools, decorations, etc. My only two complaints are that the book has a rather abrupt ending (or perhaps there's a page missing from my book; I have had it for about 15 years), and that it's a bit ...., though younger readers may not pick up on this. Still, "The Littles to the Rescue" is a fun adventure story for children age 7 - 10. Highly recommended.

This is a great entry in a great series, which features the adventures of a family of small people-with-tails named the Littles, who live in the walls of the clueless humans, the Biggs.

This is probably my favorite book in the series, prominently featuring two other families of little people, the Specks and the Tinies. These two clans have an irrational distrust of each other, and the Littles get caught up in their struggles just when they desperately need to be focused on the pregnancy of Mrs. Little.

The elements that make the series consistently great are also on full display. The little people are essentially living in isolated pockets in the vast and dangerous frontier created by humans, and they must rely on their own wits to carve out a decent living. The problems they face, and the solutions that they struggle to find, are amazingly realistic, and there is no need to create evil-minded villains when the terrain is so inhospitable. Seeing the other clans in action also shows that the methods of living life on such a small scale can be very localized; the Specks, who live in the trunk of a tree, have an entirely different way of life than the Littles.

This is a charming series, with hundreds of thoughtful details that will delight children with their ability to portray a real world. Interactions with housecats and toy gliders are particularly thrilling.

Also, I would be remiss not to mention the wonderful sepia-toned drawings by Roberta Carter Clark. They mirror the text's adherence to realism, and give us a very graphic and fun look at the scenes that the text describes.

Highly recommended

Living on this Earth, right under our very noses, is a race of tiny people. They are not dwarfs or elves, but simply tiny people, six inches tall at the most and possessing beautiful, furry tails. And in the home of the Biggs, lives a family of these tiny people, called the Littles.

In this book, Mrs. Little is coming due for the birth of her baby. But, with a snowstorm covering the area, the Littles decide that they must telephone Aunt Lily (a nurse from four houses away - quite a long distance) and tell her NOT to come. However, when a human intercepts the call, Aunt Lily decides that the call was a call for help, and she and Cousin Dinky set off in his glider. Disaster strikes when a gust of wind throws Lily out of the glider, and now it is up to the Littles to stage a rescue. It's a dangerous world out there for a little person, and Aunt Lily has fallen into adventures in a big wood!

I am a fan of Mary Norton's Borrowers books, and was saddened by the knowledge that there would never be any more. When I discovered Mr. Peterson's Littles books I was overjoyed, hoping that these would be just as good. Well, I wasn't disappointed!

The story in this book is charming, and quite entertaining. My children and I were thrilled with the story, and look forward to reading more of the adventures of the Littles. We highly recommend this book to you.

I am 7 years old and in 2nd grade.I like to read about the Littles because they are always having fun adventures. This story was interesting when the Littles traveled by rabbits, a cat, and a skunk.I try to think how much fun and how fast I could go on these animals. I like how the Littles get help from animals. I thought Aunt Lily was not going to make it in time for the baby.
But with the help of everybody she was found.

This book was great, I am a devoted fan of ER and I am patiently awaiting the release of an updated version of the ER Files,I hope it is coming soon! This book described the charchters in detail, and gives a description of every episode from the Pilot, to the end of the third season. I think that the author needs to update this book with a new ER Files from the Fourth Season to now, nearing the end of the Fifth. In closing I would recommend this book to any devoted ER fan , or someone looking to understand the show or charachter's past.

This book gives you summaries for the first 3 seasons of the TV series ER. It also gives you pretty good summaries of the characters. No decent pictures, but still a good buy if you're an ER fanatic like me!

We loved this book! This is for people who want to incorporateeducation into fun times with the kids but are sometimes short onideas. I would recommend this book for working parents because it is easy to be organized or introduce projects at a moment's notice when bits of time are found. All of the ideas and instructions are right there in front of you. It would also be easy to leave for a caregiver as a lesson plan. Stay at home moms can certainly use this book to help fill the many hours constructively.

I purchased this book four years ago for our child when she was a preschooler. This book is ideal for those children who like hands on learning activities and games. The book utilizes activities and games to teach mathematical concepts in a fun and engaging format. I would follow this book up with the Singapore Earlybird Math books 1A-2B, then proceed to MCP Kindergarten Math.

Full of ideas!
