A Book for Beginners

This book is for extreme beginners only. If you know what Krause Mishler and Pridmore mean, do not buy this book, particularly
if you own the KM 19th and 20th century volumes. If, however, you have some old Indian coins from your grandma or uncle, then
this book may be of help if you want to start a collection.
Pros:
- Color life-size pictures of the coins
- Mentions Mints and Years
Cons
- Grades coins on Good/Very Good/Uncirculated without defining them
- Prices provided only for the major varieties not distinguished by mint or year
- Covers only British India and Republic India coins from 1835-1990s
The book covers only British India and Republic coins from about 1835 till the 1990s. It has pictures of the coins in color, which is a nice touch, but it lists only the main variants, and only one set of prices, without
distinguishing between mints or years.
Unfortunately, it uses a Good/Very Good/Uncirculated grading (without really defining what G/VG mean), which is not standard. The prices seem a bit low (from a US perspective), and probably can be obtained only in India. Unfortunately, it lists some coins as "Rare" and does not bother to list prices.
The book also has letters of commendation from prominent people in the preface. While that does not affect my impression of the book, tragically it also states that mint errors and lakhi errors are not collectable coins and should be ignored! While this may be true of really recent coins (due to unscrupulous mint employees), this is certainly not true for all coins from all times.
I was disappointed that it covers none of the princely states, but if I knew that beforehand (as you know now), my disappointment would have been less.
In summary, if you are barely starting out, or you have a strong need for color pictures, then buy this book. But soon (i.e. the next day- the book will take you less than an hour to read) you will have to buy a more comprehensive book. As usual, collecting all the coins listed will be a longer affair.
(On the other hand, their book on Princely States coins (only the first part has been released as of now- now that is a good book.)

Tales from the ER put on a human face

If you like "ER," "Scrubs" or just happen to be studying medicine, this is the book for you. Through 24 anecdotes, Dr. Kyle
Smith tells of his experiences while working in the beloved ER. The stories vary from the devastating and the heartbreaking
to the touching and the just plain hilarious. Each anecdote is lovingly told with dry wit and humor, and then turned and viewed
from a different viewpoint when Kyle uses the lessons he learn at the ER in guiding an old friend of his who suffers from
a broken heart.
I've always enjoyed stories that take place at a hospital, and the fact that these anecdotes just happen to be true only makes them better. We're once again shown without a shadow of a doubt that truth is indeed stranger than fiction at times, as Kyle Smith shows us how differently people react to the traumas and surprises of the emergency room. Some of his stories made me appalled at how human beings can treat each others, while others made me sit with tears in my eyes at the tragedy that sometimes, no matter what a doctor does, a person is beyond saving. Yet others made me laugh out loud at the shear madness Kyle experienced-for instance when a girl was asked if she used protection when having sex, and replied that she always had a .38 (pistol) in her bedside table!
The parallels to life outside the hospital and Kyle's heartbroken friend were a bit heavy-handed at times, but as I got further into the book they made more and more sense. Then I could see a natural progression both in the stories and in the way he tackled having his heart broken-and attempting to move on. I still think the book would have worked just as well without that twist, but it didn't seem as obviously tacked-upon as I'd feared in the beginning.
ER Confessional is an intriguing book with poignant tales from all aspects of life. Kyle resisted the temptation of making the characters larger than life, and the result is a collection of stories where you can identify with at least one person in every chapter.
Armchair Interviews says: Human stories that took place at the hospital's ER

I have been using this reference for over 4 years, and am ordering a new one! My co-workers are constantly referring to it
and new nurses ask where to get one.
Since I don't care for PDAs (software and hardware limitations) this guide is my backup and double check in critical situations.
I highly recommend it.

The continuing saga of these characters during the Elizabethan Age moves to Scotland in the year 1577, the year Mary, the
Scottish abdicated Queen, is held prisoner in England. Her 11-year-old son James is heir to the throne and rule is in the
hands of a series of regents who keep dying. Amid this political unrest, Catherine Glenelg is found unconscious down a flight
of stairs and her mother-in-law dead on top of her, presumably murdered.
Catherine has no memory of the event and is accused of the murder. She disappears with the help of her friend, the mysterious Annabel. Her friend Susanna Appleton travels from Kent to try to rescue her and learn who the real murderer is. Even if Catherine is found, she won't cross the border without her daughter and son, who is assigned to wait on the boy-king in Sterling Castle.
Thus the stage is set for the unraveling of the mystery of the mother-in-law's death and the rescue of Catherine's eight-year-old son from the castle. Portrayals of the period are undoubtedly genuine, and the language real for the time and place. Descriptions of the political conspiracies are intriguing, as is information on the vagaries of Scottish law (for instance, charges against a murderer could be either criminal or civil, and if compensation is paid to the survivor there are no criminal charges brought).

I think this is one of Hong Ying's best book. The sex scenes unbelievably beautiful, and the book goes much further than this.
You feel Julian's and Lin's pain, which are caused by the culture difference and hence their inability to understand each other. It is so painful to miss out on the love of your life because of some invisible but unbreakable barrier!
If you don't read Chinese, get an English version (of course, the quality then is in the hand of the translator)!

While out searching for a new habitable planet, the space craft, the Archer saw a planet that had a few similarities to Earth.
The only problem was from their view, they saw a planet covered in ice, as well as erupting volcano's. The planet, now named
Sirat is going to be the crew's new home due to the meteor shower that is supposed to last around 1 to 2 years rendering them
helpless to leave the planet.
The crew can not survive on the resources of the ship for that long, so they are forced to find a place to land and do their best to survive. Disease, unknown viruses, bacteria, plagues, and food shortage are all major downsides to being forced to land on this planet. Even the issue of child-support is mentioned as well as more population needed.
The Clans can marry more than one person at a time, but there are strict rules at times when it comes to joining a clan as Jensen will discover. And then there is the issue with nanites, they can be helpful at times but deadly in others. There are also mentions of DNA reconstruction with these nanites in order to help growing fetus'.
Sirat: Through The Fires Of Hell by Tamara Wilhite is a futuristic science fiction novel that is very well thought out, and well written. I admit at times I got confused because a name was used more than once for a different person(named after family members), but besides that it was a quick read. It is a very real possibility that if all of Earth's resources run out, we may need to seek another planet sometime in many many lifetimes away. If you're into science fiction, pick up a copy of Sirat, you will enjoy it. 4 Hearts

The year is 2099 and while technology continues to grow and life is being lived on other planets, there is no War. Terrorists still exist and have begun to wreak havoc on the solar system. The Temporal Enforcement Division(TED) has devised a plan to genetically enhance four individuals with already special abilities.
The four new bloods Jennifer Rose was to recruit excelled in controlling their abilities and had no signs of being power hungry. The team was made up of Logan Summers who had hyperactive senses, Raven Alexandria the clairvoyant, Demona Kenmoor the psychic and psionic, and the most dangerous of all, Orion Pax he is resistant to physical injury.
After undergoing all the procedures to become Temporal Enforcement Cops (TEC) the group was sent on their first mission. The mission rattled even Orion at times. The bomb Blackthorne let loose was teleported through a wormhole and the group must find it before the bomb detinates. The only problem is trying to find which time era the bomb is in. The technology may be advanced but not so much that information is instantaneous; the wait could very well kill.
The team also has to be on watch for Blackthorne's genetically enhanced soldiers, they are more animal than man. One of Blackthorne's soldiers embodies each of the TEC's abilities as well as few more deadly weapons.
The Chronos Project is a sci-fi book that lovers of the genre will certainly enjoy. I thought the prologue as well as various parts of the book were too scientific for me to understand. Towards the middle, the action really started picking up and kept me turning the pages.
Mr. Rios is well ahead of his time. He is an excellent writer of futuristic fiction and I am sure one day a movie will be made out of this book. Well detailed characters and events ensures the reader a wild ride through the solar system. Mr. Rios is someone I am sure we will be reading more about in the future. 4 Hearts
