I haven't had an opportunity to read the book in its entirety but the little I have reviewed has already given me some insight and new ideas. The book was well packaged and arrived within a mater of days. Only 4 stars because I havent read the entire thing yet or had an opportuinity to implement anything to see how the ideas work. The book was suggested to me with high regards

The Best Field Guide You'll find
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-05
I am a paramedic FTO in Atlanta and have come across many different types of field guides. The JEMS guide is by far the best, certainly topping the more popular ones. Just about every single OTC home drug can be found in it, as well as its class. Frequently, if the drug is of the proper schedule, the appropriate antidote is offered in the regular listings so one doesn't have to flip back and forth. I recommend this guide above the others.

not for BLS

This guide might be alright for a Paramedic or maybe and EMT-I, but is completely unsuited for EMT-Bs. Of this 90 page booklet, only two pages are devoted to trauma: all you get here are pupil sizes and Glasgow/trauma scales. There is no Basic Cardiac Life support, the rest of the manual is ECG, ACLS, Drugs,IVs and some medical/drug abbreviations. This is an ALS manual, basically useless to the BLS provider.

Great Idea, but I returned it because...

This book used regular ingredients, but many were baked in the oven for 30 minutes or so. I was looking for quick & easy recipes. I returned the book since I was so disappointed with it.

As for using the book as a gift giving idea, it would be easy with all the labels/tags included as part of the book, but the recipient is really getting "mugged" into doing a lot of cooking for some of the recipes that serves one. You also have to make sure the mugs are microwave and/or oven safe which ends up being another issue to deal with before giving the gifts.

I bought the Mug 'Ems Soups and Breads for my son to make Christmas gifts for all of his grandparents. Three of the soup recipes we picked called for Knorr White Sauce which is apparently not available anywhere in the U.S. We were very disappointed in the soups but the book is a great idea and some of the breads sound yummy. We were just looking for simple!

unique Christmas gifts

I originally bought this book for myself. I made Mug Em baskets as unique Christmas gifts. Each included a large mug, the Mug Em ingredients mix, mug em instructions and "extras" needed to complete the recipes. They were such a hit I gave one to my "secret pal" at work with a heart shaped mug on Valentine's Day. She liked it so much she had everyone trying to find out who her secret pal was so she could get the recipes. Of course, a copy of the book soon ended up in her mailbox. Once we revealed our secrets she told me she uses the book all of the time. The Mug Em ingredients mix together with pantry staples make great soups and breads for a quick dinner or to take to work for lunch.

Cute book for gifts from your kitchen.

This book cantains 21 recipes. There are 6 pages for each recipe--one with the recipe and the directions for making the gift. Next page has the list of ingredinets that are not included with the gift and the directions for using the gift. The next two pages are gift tags with the printed instruction and a form to print the recipient's name and a "You've Been Mugged" label on the gift tag.

I purchased all four Mug'em books. They all have some really neat ideas, but be warned that what you give away does not include all the necessary ingredients. With some of them the recipient only needs to add simple things like water and other common household ingredients. Some require the addition of small amounts of things most people don't normally keep in their house and probably wouldn't purchase just for the small quantity needed. Other items require the recipient to add so many things that you might as well have not given the gift to begin with.

I suggest you do a search online for free postings of similar gifts to give in a mug, or purchase the Gifts in a Jar books.

I have done several gifts from jars so when I saw these sets of little books I grabbed them up. I have to say, If I could do it again I would not buy this set. The ingred. lists are easy, but the amount the reciever needs to have makes the gift not so much worth it. You need multiple items to add. That makes for a not so good gift in my mind. I would not get this set!!!

What a great idea!

I've done so many mixes in mason jars that I don't think I can ever spend time layering ingredients in another! Then along comes this cute idea of mixes in mugs! I purchased the Meals & More book today and looked through all of the recipes. Great ideas and the gift tags with preparation instructions are adorable. Yes, as with any dry mix, you will have to add some ingredients to prepare them, but the items seem fairly reasonable to me.

This book makes a excellent review about the most important skills you need to know. The best part for me is the airway managent skills cause is easy to understand and have good pictures, also important is the part about the management of head trauma conforms to the brain trauma fundation. The problem is that it dont talk about pharmacology and cardiac management. This book have great ilustrations and images with full collor. Good idea If you live out of the USA or if this is your first experience buying Paramedic books by the net. AYAX SOBRINO SAAVEDRA

Chapter titles are real cutesy, but there's not much depth. Some chapters are useful while others are of limited use. Very narrow focus.

Need to Know HOW to Cheat? This is a MUST have...
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-26
Have you ever wondered if you man or woman was cheating? Well, this book will give you the 411 on the what, why and how come. HOW TO CHEAT AND NOT GET CAUGHT is an easy to read guide on how the manage a successful affair. There are detailed discussions on: types of affairs, how to cheat, affairs at work, avoiding the signs of an affair, and how to end an affair. The book concludes with a reference section that includes lists on: best reasons to cheat, pickup lines, signs that your spouse is cheating, men/women to avoid, tying out loose ends, and romantic getaways.

It's obvious that Sylvince has been heartbroken. The sarcasm expressed between the lines reeks of a woman scorned. This is a funny tongue and cheek read for someone experiencing a break up. There are tons of statistics, case studies, and jokes that support cheating in various aspects. Sylvince does a disclaimer that says she does believe in the sanctity of marriage but the entire book is tearing down the pillars of respecting that covenant.

Hopefully a second edition is on the way, with the numerous mistakes corrected. Until then, I would stay away from this text. Besides outright errors, there are many places where the author is just not clear or contradicts herself, examples do not always agree with the text or are ambiguous, and captions are sometimes just plain wrong. I would venture to guess that this book was put together very quickly.

Nothing to do with Documentation
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-07
This spiral bound flip book has so few tips on documentation it should have a different title. It basically gives step by step of what you should do on a call depending on the chief complaint. Basically what questions should you ask and what minimum treatment should you do. It has nothing like make sure you document __________ when associated with motor vehicle accidents in order to decrease your likelyhood of being sued, etc. It has the same basic sections with each complaint - Present History, Medications, Physical Exam, Treatment, Monitor, Medical Control and Tips. Really I'm quite disappointed in the tiny 68 page book which cost $24.95. Frankly, It's just not worth it. There isn't enough valuable information in the book to warrant the price. Wish I could have had my hands on it and really looked at it before I bought it. Oh well at least I can write it off on my taxes.
