Great Book

If you are looking to get someone in EMS a great present, here is the book for them or for yourself.

Thom Dick is the author of Street Talk, a book of essays that came out about the time I was in EMT school in 1989. It was extremely influential in instructing me in what it meant to be a caregiver. It encouraged me to see the patient as a person, to respect the people I work with, to take the time to be kind, and other important lessons that helped me become a better EMT.

A few years later I heard him speak at an EMS convention and he was fantastic. He got you fired up to go out there and hold old ladies' hands. He made you feel like the work you did, even the mundane parts, was special. I read his book often over the years and it always charged me up. Now I don't pretend to have always lived up to his standards. I know I haven't. But I do try.

His new book seems to be a expansion/complilation of his prior book and the talks he gives all over the country. It is enhanced by cartoons by Steve Berry, who does the "I am Not an Ambulance Driver" cartoon series.

This is a book that if you are in EMS, you should read once a year, to help remind you of your better instincts.

This is an excellent book and a must read for all EMS providers - new and old. This book is a must read for all EMT or Paramedic Students. It is all the stuff that is not in the traditional EMT or Paramedic book. I highly recommend this book and I reference it all the time for my medic/emt students.

Very good research on a much neglected subject

R.S. Christie exposes a complicated network of interdependencies, relationships and problems in a seemingly narrow area of government. Yet, this work can be used as a model for anyone interested in the old "Where does the money go to?" question in the area of Government Science. Christie's writing is fluent and crystal-clear and she clearly has a good grasp of the inner workings of the Austin government. The US has long been debating issue regarding public spending in the area of Health Care. This work is an example of how some basic problems can be unlocked. I'd call it "A Barefoot Model for Problems in Government Spending". We usually talk of "taxpayers' money" - and this scientific work does an important service to those of us who wonder why red tape does seem to get worse every year. Highly specialized, yes, but recommended without doubt.

Christmas With Alice-Ems: Mathematically Possible Poems is a lively and fun collection of Elizabeth Elder's poetry for kids and would grace any family, school, or community library collection. Considering Louis: Considering Louis, it isn't enough/to think of his stuffing as nothing but fluff./A rabbit like Louis is more than he seems./A rabbit like Louis has wonders and dreams./The wonders are wound in the pink of his toes/and the pucker of whiskers and tuck of his nose./The wonders are mysteries he may wish to keep,/or secrets he only relates in his sleep./A rabbit like Louis is clearly more/than a fuzziness left in a heap on the floor./With Louis there's fluff and there's something else too./I cannot begin to describe it. Can you?

As a Critical Incident Stress Management team member, this book reveals many details that can assist in the overall management of stress in the emergency services (medical, fire, police) workplace. Ray sheds light on both the big and little details tht help us survive and flourish in this type of work. We use this book often in the debriefing and stress management work that I'm directly involved in. A great book to have and refer to often. Do yourself and your department a favor, get this book.

EMS Quick and Easy - A clear winner

I have never written any reviews, so why this one? It's that I was thrilled to read a book that stand true to its title `Environmental Management Quick and Easy'. Besides being a quick and easy read, the author does a wonderful job in explaining in very comprehensive terms every aspects of EMS. The book is organized into 3 Parts. Part 1 explains in details every section of the standards, Part II look after Design and Deployment and Part III wrap up EMS improvements. As a bonus the book accompanied CD-ROM contains tools, cheklist and template - Sample Audit Check List, Aspect Identification checklist, Environment Briefing survey, Environmental Bulletin, Excel Work Book, Project Plan, Management Review Agenda, Project Charter and Project Communication Plan - in brief all ingredients required to boost up your EMS implementation.

If you happen to be part of the EMS team in your organisation like me, look no further, you have a clear winner here, go and grab it, the CD itself worth more than the price of the book. It deserves 6 stars.

A crew came to me explaining how they used your product both on the scene and in the ER. They were very happy with the results and the ER was impressed with how easily the Kwikpoints worked to get information in a hurry. Ironically, one of the fire fighters on scene was trying to dial a free interpreter line to figure out what was going on with this patient. The medics, with the Kwikpoint, figured out the complaint and necessary information before the interpreter could get on the phone.
