Harrington is a conservative poker genius! I will say upfront, if you are an aggressive player, you will not like this book. However, if you are trying to figure out how to win large tournaments or satellite tables, this book is a must-own for you!

I loved how Harrington put in a ton of situational questions that allow you to test your ability to master the skills taught in this book. Take your time and try to get these questions right, it will pay off in the long run.

By the time I was halfway through reading this book, I noticed a huge difference in where I was placing in online and video game tournaments. I have ordered his second book, and am getting ready to read it now. A lot of the first book's sections tell you to read the second book, and I would recommend it for any experienced player.

If you are a newbie to the game, this book will put you in a fantastic position to have a heads up on your friends. If you are experienced, this book will give you way more information than you can ever use, but you can pick and choose what to apply in your game.

You absolutely will be a better player after reading this book!

all in all HOH series is one of the best series of poker books out there if not the best. after finishing the 1st book and starting the second i raked in 1 tourney win worth 120 dollers and a 5th place finish in a 2000 person field for 300 dollers back to back. i continue to win and im very happy that i chose these books first over anything else. i now own holdem for advanced players an a couple others but this series is what you want if your starting out. great overview of strategy and over time you will learn to incorporate your own mix of experience with the books.

Don't buy this book. Really. Dan Harrington can't play and this book proves it. If you bought this book return it for a refund. Don't tell your friends about this, no need. Better yet Amazon should get this book off the market, no help for anyone. Really.

So far, all the books I've gotten through Amazon, and I've been buying for years, have been in good to great condition with a nice price. I'll continue buying from Amazon.

Must buy. Worth every penny. This with volume one are great and if the material is mastered, your returns will be greater than you expected. Aides through all the lower to middle levels.

I ordered about 40 over the past year for an associate director of my company. He uses a Chapter in his monthly global meetings. They read it and discuss how they can implement it. I read it & ordered more for various other managers. The book is excellent, easy to understand, and easy to put in practice. I believe every manager and employee should read it and practice what is on the pages.

Well worth the purchase. In addition to sound "theory" provides very practical application. If you subscribe to the concept that BEING BRILLIANT AT THE BASICS will get you to the next level, this books is clearly for you. We bought one for all our HR Managers around the country whereby they can utilize the practical application ideas as bet fit their facility.

As a busy professional, it's easy to fall into the trap of tending to the task and not so much the relationship. This book brings me back to that important balance. Chapter six, "Family", was extremely useful and helped me understand that employees have needs that, many times, surpass their pay check. I was better able to work with an employee who had special family needs. This book is filled with practical, relevant, and usable advice on keeping employees engaged. This book is an essential read for leaders today. If you care about developing your people you will understand them better after reading LOVE 'EM or LOSE 'EM.

Unlike the hundreds of management books out there that can be rather philosophical and academic on how to create a productive work environment (with many of the concepts capable of being covered in three, not three hundred, pages), this book focuses on 26 strategies with countless practical actions under each strategy that a manager can take to make the work environment (read: "people") highly productive.

Best yet, the authors' strategies for employee engagement and subsequent retention don't cost big bucks to implement. And if you haven't figured out how much payroll dollars you lose by disengaged employees who ultimately leave, you're missing a big chance at improving your bottom line.

If there was ever a phenomenal return for money spent, it's in implementing Love 'Em or Lose 'Em's s6 strategies. But that means you have to first invest in the book! Buy it!

On how good Al is. I must admit I am a little tired of the Block Party Series, but Caught'em Slipping had me hooked.

SLIPPIN! OMG if you haven't read anything by this author you are really missing out ---this has got to be one of the hottest authors out. Al-Saadiq is definitely hands down one of my favorite authors. Each book gets better and better. I will buy anything this man writes!

I enjoyed this book as I always enjoy books about the streets because I am not a person from the "street" or should I say "streetwise". This book was very interesting all the way through. The storyline was great and it kept you wanting to keep reading it to find out what was going to happen next. I won't go into details regarding the book because for those who are reading this review don't need to know anymore than the brief description given on Amazon or the back of the book. Very good book and interesting read. Get this book if you want to know the minds of a drug dealer/stick-up men, etc, getting hooked by the fast money life and the women that trail along. All I can say is they prove that it ain't worth it in the end.

Perfect material, provides multiple concepts, tricks and inspiring ideas about how to keep the attention of an audience.

If any American leader is known for using wit and humor in difficult situations, it is John F. Kennedy. He knew that ANY situation can be made palatable with the proper use of humor. I approached Tom Antion's book (and videotape) with the same skepticism I use in all such purchases and was very pleasantly surprised. Tom has produced a basic reference work that will serve in any situation. I'm sure it would have been in JFK's personal library, just as it is now in mine. In preparing JFK and leadership speeches for delivery anywhere in the world, I routinely consult Tom Antion's reference works. I recommend them in any format as the foundation for a professional approach to communicating with others.

This book is full of useful information.I really liked it I have been playing poker and games nearly all my life.Lots of good stuff in this book most common things I never really think about while playing and some things that I should be thinking about.Anyway lots of useful information it was a good purchase in my opinion.

I don't usually review products on Amazon, but I'll make an exception in this case. In my opinion this is the best book ever written on poker tournament play (sorry Dan Harrington).

The author's explanations of ICM and "bubble factors" are what makes this book so great. If you're a cash game player and you need help adjusting to tournament play, then this is the book for you. When you learn how to use ICM instead of just pot odds to make your decisions, you will see your tournament results rise to a whole new level. The concepts in this book will help equally, whether you play single-table sit and go's or large multi-table tourneys.

Highly recommended for any poker tournament player.

All I can say is that after only a month of having this book as my main reference, some real time experience in home games and my willingness to improve my game evolved (from old school to a more aggressive style) and I was able to win a small stakes Hold'em tournament.

This is a sequel to a very popular book titled Kill Phil. I hadn't read it when I decided to give this one a try but it didn't really matter. Although the ideas and mathematical explanations are geared towards intermediate and advanced players I was able to pick up on very useful basic concept and worked my way through more complex strategies. The chapters are well structured with tables, charts and graphs that explain the logic for every decision making aspect be it pre-flop or post-flop. There are additional chapters to tailor the game for Sit N Go tournaments and internet play that has become so popular these days.

You have to take your time to understand the situations presented in each chapter and how to deal with different tournament structures, table positions and situations (far from the money, the bubble, short handed, heads up). But by the time you finish reading and understanding theses concepts you'll have a great set of tools to develop your game sit at a poker table and be very competitive.

I am now reading the first book to get a better understanding of the foundation Kill Everyone is based on - Kill Phil. It seems the latter is focused on pre-flop strategy, All-In moves and calculating pot odds to make big decisions.

I bought this book based upon all the great reviews, and wasted both my time and money. How disappointing!
There is too much bragging on how great and smart the author is (sorry, but outside of the US nobody knows that company anyway) and even tough I appreciated the genuine willingness to share his experience, this is only common sense.
No new insights. Get the Harvard Business Review and you will learn more than in this book.
I guess that it might be useful for new entrepreneur or maybe small companies, just for them to double check that they are on the right tracks.

I wish I would have read this prior to starting to work for his new company and also I could've used this about 5 years ago to encourage me to change careers. This is an excellent book and I'm using some of the examples in it for my MBA application this fall.

As an Executive Coach and a close observer of many corporate cultures it did my poor old tired heart a world of good to read this book. If what Hal Rosenbluth says about his company is even half true, it puts his organization at the forefront of employee value and relationship management. Beyond all that, it makes perfect common sense. Why we would think in our wildest imagination that an employee who does not feel valued by his employer would not transmit that lack of appreciation to his customers, is a mistery to me. The first 100 pages of this book are not be missed by any company who truly wants to improve their workplace culture, increase the productivity of their workforce and cut their turnover rate down dramatically. Read it and implement any one of the outstanding programs explained within and watch s shift in morale and productivity start right away. This book is a keeper and an excellent reference source. I could not recommend it more highly.

I am an avid reader of business books, and if I gain just one or two usable ideas from a book, I consider it worth my time. This book is a stand-out among management books, because I got not one or two, but at least a dozen solid ideas I can implement right away. I have shared it with all my top level managers, and have wathced it being shared throughout my multi-national organization. It is a gem, to be kept within reach in one's office -- not with the countless other books that sit, read once, on most managers' bookshelves. I highly recommend it for anyone who cares about the success of their business.

Absolutely great book! Just finsihed it today and I would like to commend Mike Ostlund for the fantastic research he accomplished, turning the story of the Gudgeon into a great read! My heart goes out to those lost in the Silent Service as well as all those who survived battling the Japanese. Godspeed to them all.

Mikes writing of WWII events and memoirs of former crew recounting the consumption of torpedo juice and the terror of depth charging by the Japanese leads the reader sadly to the tragic mysterious loss of USS Gudgeon and her officers and crew.

Historically, it seems to be an accurate accounting. A mysterious loss? Hardly...it was a wartime loss pure and simple, as were many. The writing is VERY dry, read more like an encyclopedia. I you are a war nut, it's OK, but not revealing in the least, and tends to wander.

Having made 6 war patrols aboard the Gudgeon, and 3 war patrols on other boats, I am well aware of what constitutes excellence in a fighting submarine than one without the aggressiveness and resolve found in Gudgeon and her crew.We were a team, and in my estimation no one, without exception, was more important than another. This was made clear to the author who followed our description of events to the "T". This is the true
story,without embellishments, or aggrandizements, of one of the fightingest submarines that ever existed.I am proud to have been part of this history, and even more proud of it's excellent narration by the author, Mike Ostlund

I have read almost every sub book written. This book has the right personal touch. The emotion and the action bring the reader back to a time when we fought wars the right way. Integrity and courage are abound. Join one mans quest to find his uncles past, and uncover the story behind one of the best world war II submarines to sail the south pacific. My son loved this book so much at school (Kindergarten) that he asked Santa for it. Now he's shaken' dem bones all year long. Really Cute!

This has to be one of the best books! My kids- 5 & 2- love books, we read all the time and are always at the library and bookstore. They both instantly loved this book and we read it over and over. They both get up and dance and sing right along with me. I highly recommend this for any age. I'm positive it will be on our book shelf all year and not just at Halloween!

This is a very entertaining and fun book to read aloud to a class or even one child. It is fast paced and interactive and I simply love it.

We had borrowed this book from the library dozens of times and realized it was time to purchase our own. This has been our children's favorite book since the moment we first read it. A family favorite at our house! Sing-song rhythm makes it fun too!

The author has his own web site that supports the book! A very nice idea, I wish more chess authors did the same. I learned more ideas about the opening from the web site.

Besides this book is very good study on this opening.

This is a book either for the Colle player who wants to specialise in the Zuk or player who hasn't time so decides to speciliase in the Zuc an opening which is solid and dependable and gives a good middle game. Excellent treatment of the opening and liberal use of diagrams. Overall a good book

A terrific book on the Colle, the author has obviously spent a great deal of time wrestling with the various problems this opening presents for someone who wants to play it. The book is not organized or written in a traditional manner, yet is very readable. It works well with another opening book by Summerscale, "A KILLER CHESS OPENING REPERTIORE".
A work of love, worth buying if it fits in with your openings...

Zuke 'Em, by David Rudel, is a chess book about the Colle-Zuckertort opening. What makes this book stand out is the author is an award winning mathematician and amateur chess player, not a Chess Master.

What impressed me most about this book is Rudel's passion for this opening which comes through his writing. This is a chess book, so there is plenty of chess analysis. However, Rudel also uses statistics to provide the 'best by test' lines not just the best theoretical ones. He will also recommends other variations of the Colle or even other openings when it has scored better that the Colle-Zuckertort. Rudel also has lists of other recommended Colle books.

Rudel did not write for the Master player, but for 'club' players. Those of us, who probably never will be top touring professional ranks, but play local tournaments or on-line games. His Chapter 3, The Cast, tells what each piece from pawn to King stereotypically does in the opening. Master level books assume the reader know this. Also, at the club level, players usually do not play more than 4 - 5 moves, so the Main Line is reached more by accident than by purpose. There are three chapters for these kinds of openings. He has included a chapter of tests to check the understanding of the reader.

Additionally, there is the Zuke-Dukes forum. Rudel has several sections from Personnel Games and a game database, to Conundrums and New Busts to Updates, Typos, and Holes in his analysis. I have posted to Typos and Conundrums and gotten replies from Rudel. (He replies to all posts!)

From book cover to forum, this is about Rudel's passion, the Colle-Zuckertort opening, and his mission to educate and promote the best in chess play. David Rudel succeeds in that mission.

To my knowledge, this is the first and only book to be written exclusively on the Colle-Zukertort opening system. Luckily for us, this first one is outstanding!

As a former tournament class player (now retired to correspondence chess), I found ingenious and refreshing David Rudel's new ideas in chess writing. These include: (1) well-positioned, self-interruptive questions and comments (e.g., Why do you say that? and Why does Black have to fianchetto?), which he actually answers; (2) dealing directly (yet respectfully) with other authors' works touching on the Colle-Zukertort; (3) giving the reader the benefit of his own analysis board (Ch. 12 - Extra Analysis), and (4) allowing the reader to discover where he needs to re-read parts of the book more closely (Ch. 13 - Training).

More specifically, regarding item (2), above, where other writers leave off with "White has a slight advantage" or "White is better"-type comments, Rudel carries on and delivers numerous well-thought-out lines dealing with Black's serious attempts to derail the C Z, and in a way that class players can appreciate. For example, he explains in detail how to handle anti-Colle moves like ... Bf5 and ... Bf4, Black's attempt to chase away White's d3 bishop by playing ... Nb4, and even Black's ... c5 on the second move. He writes all of this for the class player in an informal style that is just plain fun to read. His selected master games specifically target the points he is making. He uses diagrams effectively and adequately, although I would have liked twice as many of them. (But I say that about every chess opening book I read.)

Rudel shows that playing the C-Z is not simply a matter of plopping down ten opening moves and then looking around to see what Black has done in the meantime. In my view, this work has transformed the Colle-Zukertort from a "system" to an outright opening. Of the many dozens of opening books in my chess library, Zuke `Em is hands down number one. If you play the C-Z, or want to (and if you read this book you will want to), this one is an absolute must-have.
