Terrific Resource for the Scrapbooker!

If you are interested in both scrapbooking and rubber stamping, this book will greatly assist in combining the two. The techniques are clearly explained and are illustrated in full color. Just leafing through the book, I saw two techniques I'm going to try right away! Also included are "Story Starters" to help get ideas for journaling and lots of tips. One thing I really liked was the examples of borders with goofs; that really helps put the reader at ease with their own work! This book will be extremely helpful to the beginner and to the more advanced scrapbooker/stamper looking for new ideas. I highly recommend this one!

Founded in 1960, the Tamarind Institute has had a major influence on art-making in this century, placing American lithographers at the forefront of printmaking efforts. This documents the Institute's achievements, following the artists and participants who've worked there for years and offering black and white and color reproductions of their works throughout. An excellent history.

The Techniques Of Glass Engraving
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2000-11-24
This is about the best glass engraving book I have. Although most of the techniques seem to be aimed at the experienced engraver, it has some excellent information & techniques for the hobbyist & is generally very interesting & useful. It has some good ideas for home-built equipment & an excellent, comprehensive bibilography. It also has a list of manufacturers & suppliers of glass engraving equipment that is quite useful . All round, an excellent addition to a glass engravers library, or for anyone with an interest in glass & galssware.

-- for print-makers and print-lovers alike.

This book covers every aspect of printmaking, from preparing a plate for grounding to preparing it for storage after the edition has been printed. It discusses the many kinds of etching, including lift and aquatint processes, up to relief etching. Soft ground gets more attention here than most authors give it, including various aspects of using paper as a tool to transfer or create an image. Chamberlain also covers the techniques where the toolmarks create the image directly: engraving, drypoint, crivee, and collage-like "metal graphic." Mezzotint, so unlike the other processes, gets separate discussion of its own. Chamberlain is especially helpful in offering alternatives to the laborious rocker ground, including aquatint and abrasive techniques.

Later chapters address the basics of paper, ink, and press. Of course, there's that moment when all the pieces come together and print is pulled. Then, discuss covers some of the techniques and problems of drying the finished print - preserving the embossing that comes from intaglio process, while avoiding the cockling that carelessly dried paper is subject to.

This won't stand by itself as a how-to guide for a beginning engraver or etcher. It is helpful, though, in summarizing the many ways to make marks on the plate, including some unusual transfer techniques. This helps the print-lover as well. I find myself intriuged by the marks in an image as much as by the image itself. Knowing the means used to convert the artist's imagination into reality only heightens my enjoyment. No book on intaglio process covers everything, but this book certainly carries its weight in describing both common and unusual techniques. I recommend it highly.

variety of art therapy themes by established art therapists

Amazon.com's review is not an entirely accurate description of the book. This textbook is a collection of methods and technique utilized in creative arts therapy, written by various authors. This collection includes accounts of traditional fine arts oriented therapy, Jungian analysis, music therapy and puppet therapy. Even though some of the material is out of date (written in 1996), this is a fine textbook that would benefit students in clinical training programs, art therapists and other psychotherapists. Also, this is one of the few published books that has information on a more obscure type of art therapy, which is puppet therapy. Highly recommended.

This book is an excellent resource tool.

This book examines the practical uses of music as a therapeutic intervention for older adults having health care needs and disabilities, and to promote wellness for the healthy older person. It is a very accessible guide for the professional clinician, caregiver and layman. The described music applications and approaches are easy to read and comprehend. These include using music for wellness, using music with people with dementia of the Alzheimer's type, Parkinson's disease, stroke and cardiac disease, using music to manage problem behaviors, using music for stress management, relaxation, pain control, physical exercise, physical rehabilitation and spirituality, and using music with caregivers. I personally use this book many times over. It is an excellent resource tool. When giving a workshop about the uses of music for persons with dementia, I refer to sections of the book to illustrate specific clinical examples. The book is also very useful to describe theoretical concepts as a way of teaching music therapy practicum and internship students about successful clinical treatment protocols. When I have the opportunity to teach a music therapy class about music therapy and gerontology, I refer to the book for lecture ideas. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about how music improves the quality of life of the older adult.

Dr. Oster has transformed his considerable expertise in clinical drawings into a navigational tool through the landscape of mental health assessment and treatment. Although we instinctively know that clients' drawings are the richest source of thoughts and feelings, few of us have been taught to use this material in a systematic way. This companion guide to Dr. Oster's earlier works leads us step-by-step in how to use this invaluable therapeutic tool in individual, family and group work.
