This book is needed NOW!
With US Imperialism preparing a war in the Middle East that will dwarf the Gulf War discussed here, this book is needed just as much as it was needed during the Gulf War. The leaders of the Cuban revolution in the UN and beyond pointed out then, and point out today that the real objectives of imperialism in this war are nothing less than a colonial conquest of the one of the richest oil countries on Earth. Listen to these voices, not the lies of Emron-paid-for-my-campaign Bush when you consider what the coming war is all about. Listen to these voices and understand that no matter how bad the regime in Iraq is, the struggle of the Iraqi people is part of the struggle of all the peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America to throw off the economic and political domination of the imperialist countries of Europe, North America, and Japan. Read these words and join the struggle against imperialist war and for the self-determination of the oppressed of the Earth!

simply ama-zon (amazing)
This book is just simply (...)(amazing). I ENJOYED IT ALOT!

an unedited brillance.......one in a life time!
Where do i begin? When i first took a look at this book it really caught me. I quickly judged it by its cover cause to me it was so unique. The title of the book is what really made me buy it, being that it's a title i've never seen and never really seen anything close to it. Especially for a man such as myself who always denied that i'll fall in love, looking at the title "Love isnt Evol" really put a smile on my face. title's such as "cd player","wedding vows","can i love you?" which are really fun to read, and at the same time are really deep. Also at the end of the book there are two poems......the poem titled "distress" will really make you feel as if were right there when the author was speaking, it was so real. I actually met the author thats how i found out about the book....a very shy indivisual, i hope he really makes it, cause he deserves it.

Dr. Khoo has gathered and set to paper an amazing body of knowledge about a little known but vital part of the history of Southeast Asia. The photography and sources alone are more than worth the price of the book. This book is required reading for anyone wishing to have a complete view of the history and dynamics of this region.

Franz Xaver Winterhalter: And the Courts of Europe, 1830-70
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (April, 1992)
Authors: Richard Ormond, Carol Blackett-Ord, Susan Foister, and Mus Ee De Petit Palais

The most famous court painter
Franz Xaver Winterhalter could make anyone look pretty. Even Queen Victoria and her kin, if you see his portraits of them.

His paintings are flattering, make the subject look radiant and angelic, cherub-faced. His painting of Victoria's daughter Vicky is particularly beautiful, as are his portraits of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

For anyone who's enjoyed Winterhalter's paintings, this is a great book to have.

Having the lovely and intimate volume Gerhard Richter: 100 Pictures in your hands is like being transported to the renowned painter's exhibition at the Carré d'Art in Nîmes. The beautifully produced book presents paintings from 1995 to 1996, an incredibly prolific time for Richter. The luscious images range from colorful abstractions with scraped and textured paint to his signature realist paintings based on photographs. A charming essay by Guy Tosatto offers a poetic explanation of Richter's work. The telling of a conversation between a mother and her whip-smart son mimics the series of mother and child paintings. Tosatto's characters discuss the nature of painting and illusion, while the portraits of Richter's wife and young child emerge in various degrees of clarity. The domestic theme continues with a number of flower paintings, including two almost identical paintings of yellow tulips, one blurry and one almost in focus, and a portrait of soft pink flowers with broken stems. --J.P. 100 color photos, concentrating on works of 1995-96
this is a summary of richter's recent oil paintings, with two critical essays. Although a few pre '90s paintings are shown (e.g. zwie grau, schaedel, some abstractes bild), most of the book covers the abstracted bilds and photo-paintings of 95-96. The 'realistic' works include several landscapes, lesende, works with flowers and the most excellent S. mit kind series. Also a rare self-portrait (836-10, 1996). Essays are 'the woman the child and the painting' by guy tosatto, and 'there is no there. gerhard richter at the carre d'Art in Nimes,' by Birgit Pelzer. printing is nice. we read that the artist was involved in the production of this very good buy.

A must-have for anyone interested in the history of jewelry!
So many books written today about jewelry tend to be heavy on beautiful images, but lacking in useful information. Toni Greenbaum's Messengers of Modernism is truly an exception. With its well written introduction, the author places these jewelers within the cultural context of their time, providing us with a glimpse of the creative environment that fostered such fabulous works. The book is profusely illustrated and highlights the careers of each jeweler/artist. The inclusion of period photos is an added bonus and hints of the artists' individual personalities. Messengers of Modernism is a valuable reference for anyone interested in this fascinating period of jewelry history.

I Six Non Lectures
Published in Textbook Binding by Harvard Univ Pr (January, 2000)
Author: Ee Cummings
Amazon base price: $4.50
Average review score:

Insight to a master
Very enjoyable transcription of Cumming's lectures which offer much insight to this master's life and work.

"an artist, a man, a failure MUST PROCEED": an ars poetica
We learn here from the great Estlin Cummings, if we did not already know, that "Art is a mystery; all mysteries have their source in a mystery-of-mysteries who is love" (note the "who" denoting aliveness, as opposed to "which" denoting undeadness): "and if lovers may reach eternity directly through love herself, their mystery remains essentially that of the loving artist whose way must lie through his art, and of the loving worshipper whose aim is oneness with his god."

For the mature Cummings fan, this volume is a must. It traces the genesis of Cummings as poet and as man. It gives us his opinion (at which sophomores might marvel) that no one should venture free verse until he has MASTERED the sonnet, rondeau, ballade, etc. It gives us a syllabus of poems that he loved in his youth and continued to love in his adulthood: Dante, Swinburne, Shakespeare's 116th sonnet, Charles d'Orleans, Walther von der Vogelweide, Shelley, Keats. There are words of praise for Dante Gabriel Rossetti's sonnets. There are ten of E E Cummings' sonnets included in these lectures (but my copy of "i" contains three significant typographical howlers).

We see the libertarian Cummings, the man who "values freedom" and abominates "the subhuman superstate USSR." We see his almost impenetrable parody of Communism in a snippet of his book EIMI, about a trip to Leninist Moscow. We see bits of the play "Santa Claus," his gleeful proverbs called "jottings," and a few paragraphs in defense of Ezra Pound.

We have in the six nonlectures the heart of a man in love with life and spring and joy and birth and (yes of course) love. "To feel something is to be alive." And woe betide the reader who feels nothing when she or he reads these marvellous pages.

An first hand, inside look into ee cummings
These six "nonlectures" give more insight into ee cummings than anything else I've ever read about or by him (except, perhaps, for the Enormous Room, also a fantastic book). He talks about his family, his beliefs, and colors it all with true cummings style. It's delightful.

Pieces of dinosaur
Most of the models in this book are modular: This means that you make the head and body sections separately and then glue them together. There is also some cutting involved, but only in one or two of the designs.

The benefit of modular origami, is that it is possible to get more detail into the models and these dinosaurs really do look great once they are finished. They are quite easy to adapt, so you can put them in different poses.

Another good thing about this book, is the scale chart at the back. This tells you, in centimetres, which size squares to use if you want to produce dinosaurs that are to scale with one another. So your Veloceraptor won't tower over your T-Rex.

A good shot.
This book contains dozens of dinosaurs. All are beautiful and easy to fold. The only (and probably the crucial) disappointments of this book are the following two: almost all models here are not created in one single paper, and most are flat models. But if you do not care about the mainstream rule of origami world---one square, no cut---than this is a pretty good book for intermediate folders.

Excellent origami book!
This book has 20 different models of dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. Most of them do require 2 sheets of paper but they are the most realistic dinosaur models I have ever seen. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to make origami dinosaurs.
