This is a wonderful book to have in your home. It's great to be able to take books out of the library, but having the book in your home gets read more and looked at more. The topics are broken up into small catagories and easier to understand and learned in bits and pieces. Great illustrations also. This includes trusted websites so that if they want to find out more about a topic, they will know where to find it. I even learned a lot from it. It's very interesting reading. You are never too old to learn more.

This book is a simple introduction to assembly language aimed at achildren. Its colourful pictures liven up what is usually a dry topic. It covers both 6502 (yay) and Z80 (boo) assembly lanuage.. If I hadnt read this book as a child, I might never have got my head around the playstation 2 . Sadly the book is now out of print, and usborne dont seem to publish books that are this adventurous any more.

The Usborne Story of Music is beautifully illustrated on each page with captions that tell the story. Contents include: Music in the Ancient World, Music of the Middle East, African Music, Music in the East, The Middle Ages, Renaissance Music, Early Opera and Ballet, Baroque Music, Classical Music, The Orchestra, The Romantics, Opera, National Music, Operetta and Musicals, Jazz, Popular Music, Classical Music in the 20th Century. Clearly it is rooted in Western Classical music, not a world music perspective. It includes an index that would be helpful for children's research projects.

Do you like whales and dolphins? Do you like to learn about them? This is an information book. There's information and facts. Here's one fact I learned - the blue whale can spout higher than a building that has three floors!
Anyone who wants to learn about dolphins and whales, you might like this book.

Where's Curly is a fun book for toddlers and preschoolers who love farm animals! Sturdy pages and flaps, bright colors and simple drawings. Each page is filled with several animals and children who are looking for "Curly" the pig. Simple text encourages your child to seek out the missing pig under flaps and at the turn of each page. Our two year old loves this book!

This is a very fun book for anyone learning German. You look at the pictures to learn how to read and learn the words. Follow Inspector Norman as he searches through 47 pages of pictures with German and English descriptions, looking for a whimsical mouse. Also included is an alphabetical list of all the single words on the pictures in the book, along with a pronunciation guide. Although this is a children's book, it is wonderful for anyone learning German.

Inspired my son to love books

I love this book, and so does my oldest son! He has always hated storytime and reading, preferring to do more active things. But when I bought this book and showed it to him, the illustrations captured him and he actually sat still and looked at it for awhile. Then when I showed him that he could find the hidden ducky on each page, his interest grew exponentially! He was 3 years old when I first brought it home, and at nearly 6 years old now, he still preferes this book to all our others. But, the difference is that now, he loves other books too!

Great pictures, my 2-year-old loves this book!

This looks set to be a book that will have quite a few years' use in our household - and right now my youg daughter is loving the discovery of familiar (and unfamiliar) objects in the incredibly detailed and busy pictures. It's amazing how the artist manages to create so many little scenes and activities within each big picture, which create a talking point and a chance to invent stories around what you can see in the pictures. Much more than just a word book.

A fantastic learning aid for young children. This book encourages young ones to spell words enabling them to write their own stories by looking for pictures of items with their attached name and then learning how to spell the word. We bought the English and French edition so our little one is learning how to spell in both languages. Fantastic book.

Worst sticker book.

Don't buy this book. You need to be a surgeon to be able to remove the stickers from the sticker pages. You then have to search endlessly with your child to find the proper location for it. There are many other more enjoyable options that do not provide as much frustration as this product...

Great first 'GB' English book...but if you are an AMERICAN... read on...

I recently bought this book (and also the first 1000 Words in German) for our daughter. The book is very good, but American parents may need to make some changes in order to speak the same "language" that your child is learning. There are around 100 absolutely BRITISH words in the book where you might need to also write the American English word, so that your child learns both. (For example Lorry, Sticking Plaster, Petrol, Pram, Push-Chair to name a few...are not used in America.) Otherwise it is a great book.

Bought this book on a whim, and my daughter LOVES it!

I bought this book just to have one more for the promotion, and wasn't sure if my daughter would like it. I thought she might be too young to "find" the duck, but I was wrong! At 21 months, she gleefully points to the duck every time I turn the page, and proudly exclaims "Ducky!"

We have read this book with and without words. Either way, she loves it, though I think she prefers hearing the "story" that goes along with finding the duck.

We will definitely be purchasing more of this series.

Why have words?

This is a great book! My daughter loves it, as do I.

The only part that bugs me are the words. They say the duck has a beak, but don't ducks have bills? I would rather not read the words at all and just have fun looking at the pictures with my daughter.

Great book for babies...

This book is adorable, and my 8 1/2 mo. daughter loves it. The duck isn't too hard to find for young ones, the illustrations are really cute, and my favorite part is the baby looks just like my baby, down to the mop of curly hair and pudgy face. I'm definitely going to check out the other books in this series. Great choice for your little reader.

New version is great

This is a more sturdy version than the previous version. Adding words is great. And it doesn't mean that you have to read the words when going through this book. We have all adlibbed, haven't we? It can be just a search book or a read to them book. Use it any way you want. It's great. It's bright, colorful, and holds up to baby's use. There are so many things to talk in this book. A great feature for special needs children is the duck on each page for them to find. Small steps learning.

Disappointed that the new version added words!

If you were lucky enough to purchase this and the other books of this very unique children's series before 2000, then you got the version without words. I found this endearing because the books characters and the action taken by the little one reading the book needed no words to prompt him or her. Unfortunately the new version has words to accompany the pictures and kind of ruins it for me. Instead of "Find the Duck" it should be called "Your Mommy will read the words and tell you where the duck is!" And they also changed the size of the book (its now bigger and too heavy for the 2-4 age range of the book) and added color backgrounds to the covers. I still think the series makes a good gift.

Robinson Crusoe

Review Date: 2006-05-12
My book was Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. This book was about a man Robinson Crusoe, he lived in England but later moved to Brazil where he made a plantation. But when his supplies run out he goes to get more in England with some of his men. But on his way there is a horrible storm that takes his ship off course and destroys the ship leaving the crew dead. But Robison survives and washes up on an uncharted island. There he must learn how to survive on his own and fight savages and mutineers. But he does make a couple of friends along the way.
The plot of this book is Robison fighting the savages and mutineers and surviving on the island for 28 years, plus he tries to make canoes and get off the island several times. The setting is the island. The main characters are Robison, Friday and the old captain of the mutineers.
Robinson is a tall, blonde and brave man, he has many skills witch include hunting, farming, carving, wildling, sowing and sculpting. Friday was a savage prisoner of war and the savages that captured him were going to eat him until Robinson saved him. He was named Friday because Robinson saved him on a Friday. Robison teaches him how to speak English and Friday teaches Robinson how to make better boats. Friday is tall, fast, strong and has black hair. And the captain was the captain of a his ship until his men mutinied him and marooned him and some of his loyal men on Robinson's island. Later Robinson, Friday, the captain and his men take back the ship and escape on it. The captain is medium sized has blonde hair is brave, smart and strong.
This was a great book and I liked this book because of all the adventure and action that took place in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure and action. By: Alec Keiper

Before readng this book my 9 year old son liked the idea of reading but had never taken it up with any gusto. However, he just could not put this book down and as a result wrote his first ever book report entirely by himself, for whch he got an A+ mark.

Now my son is hooked-on-classics. Currently he is ready the Three Musketeers and he has Treasure Island all lined up and ready to go when he is done.

This is a fine book from a great series. Many thanks.

Steve Smith
"He felt his lungs ready to burst, his head and hands shot above the surface of the water. As the pull of the sea tried to drag him back out again, Robinson dug his feet into the sand." Robinson Crusoe is about a man, who is 18 years old, is stranded on an island, and no one thinks he is still alive. He encounters many challenges including cannibals, building a new house, making tools, and making a boat.
In one scene he has to build a fortress to protect him from the cannibals. He had wood log fence, a lookout tower, a retractable ladder, and many weapons. His house was very secure from the cannibals, but took him three months to build.
I really liked Robinson Crusoe, even thought I don't really like books where people are stranded in the wilderness. I would recommend this book for all ages and usually boys would like it, but some girls would also like it.

I saw it in my teachers shelf. I looked at the cover and it looked interesting to me. I read it in the beginning of the year 2003.

Robinson Crusoe was sailing in a violent storm and it destroyed the ship. Next day he built a fort to protect himself from wild animals. In the beginning of the story he is on a island alone. But at the end he meets some indians.
People who like adventure would like this book.

Man can live without modern conviences

I like this book because Daniel Defoe can grasp your attention within the first two chapters. He had caught mine with Robinson Cruesoe's ways.
Defoe makes his character stand out, and lets you see the relationships in which Cruesoe makes. You feel like you know what Cruesoe is like, after only a few chapters.
The development of this book, and its characters is extraordinary. With Cruesoe, throughout the book, you see his tenacity, and how he just won't quit, he won't let go of survival. You also see how Cruesoe's friend can learn English, and understands so he can communicate.
The action in which Robinson goes through is incredible. He battles storms, and gets in fights with cannibal hunters, and fights with survival. With Cruesoe, you wonder how one man does it.
The plot, having action packed pages, out standing vocabulary, excellent development, and interesting twists, makes you sit at the edge of your seat, and want to read faster.
Though the book is fiction, it still has a moral. The moral that I think is having a lot to do with colonial times. Having no refrigerators, no computers, no television, and no microwave dinners. This book shows that man can live without modern conveniences. He doesn't need any of the fancy electronics we have made to be content.

My little one loves kitties and he love to find things in illustrations, so I thought this would be the perfect combination. I was wrong. The illustrations were unimaginative and very small, making it difficult to actually find the kitten on some pages. And the text was really no fun to read. Add to that some very strained rhymes and it's a book we've rarely taken off the shelf and my son never reaches for on his own.

This is a cute book; my 17 month old daughter likes to look at the pictures. The kittens on each page are pretty small and hard to see, so I think she'll have a better time with it when she's older. Right now, she looks at the pictures but rarely points to the kittens.

This book is very good because I get to point, clap and meow a lot. My grandma always laughs and acts surprised when I find the kitten, but I don't know why, because it really wasn't so very hard after the first time. Since there aren't any words, we get to talk about the cute pictures. I call the cat Edgar because that is my cat's name. We had so much fun Grandma bought me four more books in the series. I like them, but this one still is the one I like the best.
