The Usborne Fairytale Sticker Stories series is really charming. My daughter loves placing the stickers, finding the hidden ducks and hearing the stories. These books are great!

I love this book! The age range says it's for 4 to 8 year olds, but if your new to ballet it's helpful no matter how old you are. I'm 18 and kind of new to ballet and think it's one of the best ballet books I've read, even if it is a little short. It gives you an idea of what to expect at a class and the exercises are simple enough to do at home using a chair as a barre. My favouries are the battlement glisses and battlement tendus. The glisses really help to strenghten your legs and the tendus help to strengthen your arches.

ALWAYS supervise younger children! This is especially true when they are practicing arabesques and attitudes as these moves, unlike tendus, plies, and glisses, are harder to master. Also, anything on demi - pointe should be supervised as well since feet have a habit of curling in (like bananas). REMEMBER bad habits form fast! They are also hard to break. However, when you are confident that the child(ren) can perform the exercises properly on their own there is little need to continue to supervise as closely. While having a leotard is great no special equiptment is neccessary, but I personally recommend a hard flat floor(preferably wood, but tile or linolium will work, too) and wearing ballet slippers while performing these exercises - especially during the glisses and tendus - OUCH! I wear Bloch Dansofts because I like the full sole as it seems to make you work a little harder to arch your foot and it feels more like a pointe shoe, but any ballet slipper - full sole or the more common split sole - will work. Besides, they're pretty cheap and it sure beats killing your foot on the floor.

What a beautiful book! I bought it for my 3 year old grandson. Actually, his 4-1/2 year old sister picked it out after I presented her with the Caterpillars and Butterflies book that I purchased from a national park nature center. I was thrilled to discover that I could get several other titles from Amazon, so I purchased eight more books (USBORNE BEGINNERS). I will probably order all of the titles; they are so reasonable. The information is unbelievable (like the World Book Encyclopedia for little ones)and the illustrations are beautiful. All of these books will help to instill a love for nature. Thank you for making them available.

This is an amazing book and at $4.99 for a hardcover the price can't be beat. I found this book in a zoo gift shop and ever since I have been raving about it to all my friends. It turns out that the Usbourne company also writes textbooks and this book has somewhat of a textbook feel... but in a good way! There is a lot of very interesting information (I learned several new things!) packaged in a bright, easy to read format with great pictures and illustrations.

My son is only 2 1/2 but it quickly became one of his favorite books (he is obsessed with anything from the ocean!) It could easily be a great book for any child from 2 - 7. We plan on buying a lot more Usbourne books!

Great for Teaching Kids "Grown Up" Recipes
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-22
My daughter and I use this cookbook. [ISBN: 074603380X It's a quality paperback book, 194 pages.] Most of those pages are recipes, though a recipe usually takes up two pages. Each recipe has step by step directions and features many illustrations. There is a real photograph of the finished food and drawings that highlight individual steps. The recipes are broken into four categories: Beginners, Pasta and Pizza, Vegetarian Cooking, and Cakes and Cookies.

The back cover of this book indicates that the recipes are also available under separate titles: 'Cooking for Beginners,' 'Pasta and Pizza for Beginners,' 'Vegetarian Cooking for Beginners,' and 'Cakes and Cookies for Beginners.' So if you currently own one of these other Usborne titles, you should expect the same recipes in the relevant subject.

I would recommend this book for any beginner, as it is straightforward and offers lots of recipes. I don't think of the recipes as "kids food" - the pancakes don't have smiley faces, the pizza doesn't have a face, etc., but they are appealing and the directions are clear. I prefer this type of recipe for cooking with my daughter because she's learning recipe basics that she'll be able to use as an adult. Two great things about this book are that the user learns how to read and execute a recipe and it contains helpful tips for success. After some experience with this book, a traditional cookbook is much easier to work with.

Some recipe examples: Spinach Strudel, Stuffed Peppers, Roasted Garlic Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, Marshmallow Crispies, Spaghetti Sauce, Tropical Spiced Rice, Three Bean Dip, Breadsticks, Chicago Pizza Pie, Minestrone Soup, Carrot Cake, Lemon Honey Cheesecake - and lots more.

In addition to the recipes, there are also "tips" sections. Some examples of the included tips: 'Before You Bake,' 'Baking Tips,' Alternative Pasta Shape recommendations, and 'Cooking Hints.'

Nice clear instructions, not too ambitious, and gives you enough information to play with what they show you and make it your own. I'm puzzled as to why it's listed as a "baby" book... it is not, itself, a pop up book, but rather a book about ~making~ a pop up book or card.

Understanding our Earth
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.

This book explains how the earth was made and its age, as well as how it is constantly changing. Aspects covered are the seasons; rocks and fossils, caves, earthquakes; and volcanoes. Also included is a good rock-spotters guide for identifying specimens.

The sections that follow a river (as it changes the topography) and take us on a journey up a mountain (explaining the changes in weather and topography) are fascinating.

There are sections on various climates: hot and cold places; hot, dry places; and icy places. I especially liked the wonderfully illustrated part about how a town grows, from prehistoric to present time.

The usual terrific illustrations, an Usborne "trademark" make learning painless and fun!

The Child Within
Helpful Votes: 31 out of 31 total.
Review Date: 2003-08-10
Since I consider my self tone-deaf any book that can actually remedy this to some effect is a welcome addition to my book shelves. The truth is I bought this book not for my self but for my seven year old daughter who had earlier during the year started attending piano lessons. The book is very cleverly illustrated both so as to capture and maintain the attention of a child as well as to make learning how to play the piano as easy as possible. I consider my daughter the best critic of how useful this book remains for her even though my daughter's piano teacher was also quite impressed by its contents. If you have a child who has just started learning how to play the piano or if the child within you wants to have another go at learning how to read music and also play such a magnificent instrument then this book is highly recommended both for its simplicity and effectiveness.
