Accessibly written by Angela, Growing Things is a simple picturebook for young readers, and offers basic information on how to grow plants illustrated with refreshing, colorful, cartoon-style art by John Shackell. From how to plant bulbs to raising herbs, tomatoes, or houseplants, Growing Things teaches young people the joy of raising something by themselves. Highly recommended for family, school, and community library gardening and children's activities collections, a glossary of plant-related words on the inside back cover rounds out this excellent book.

Way more than a story book or sticker book!

This beautifully illustrated story book is more than just an interesting farmyard tale (and it is cute, although the farm is from another century). The stickers help children to identify the key words, and the hidden ducks on each page help little ones with their powers of obsevation. This book is just as suitable for children just learning to talk as those learning to read. Outline drawings of the key words are replaced with colored stickers and the word. My 18 month daughter just giggled with delight each time she found the duck and received her "I found the Duck" reward sticker, and she learned quite a few new words as we worked through the stickers. Now six weeks later she still enjoys reading the story book. I liked it so well I'll probably buy all the books in this series.

I loved this book as a kid, and I still remember the pictures when I imagine how things work in my body! My seven year old now loves it too. If you want simple, clear and kid-friendly explanations that are also very educational, this is the book!

This is an amazing book. With colorful illustrations, clear explanation, and short but interesting examples, it guides the reader through an introduction to BASIC programming in less than 50 pages. I learned from this book when I was in third grade, before our family even had a computer, just working through the examples on paper. It's that engaging!

It's a shame that books like this are not available today; but if you can, get a copy of this book and something like REALbasic, and you or your child will be starting on a good path towards a fascinating hobby.

An Experimenter's Guide
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-22
From Back Cover:

"'Randomization Tests' is an experimenter's guide for the valid application of statistical tests to data form nonrandom samples. An excellent textbook on applied statistics as well, 'Randomization Tests' surpasses other textbooks in the field by demonstrating a general procedure for determining significance that can be used instead of the conventional parametric and nonparametric statistical tables. In addition, it supplements the other textbooks by showing experimenters how to take tests described elsewhere and extend their scope of application by freeing them from their parametric assumptions.

This book provides all the necessary theory and practical guidelines, such as instructions for writing computer programs, to permit experimenters to transform any statistical test into a distribution-free test; draw valid statistical inferences about experimental treatment effects in the absence of random sampling; perform valid statistical tests on data from only one subject; and develop new statistical tests that are custom-made to the experimenter's research needs.

Experimenters in all fields where statistical tests are commonly used, especially in the fields of psychology, education, biology, and medicine, will find that this book can play a vital role in experimental design and data analysis."
