This book has a lot of information in all the domains and skills to be tested on the TEXES exam. However, it only has one practice test. In my opinion one of the things that actually helps you feel better prepared to take an exam is knowing that you can actually take the exam and do good in the exam. And it is my believe that you can only get this feeling if you actually take a bunch of practice tests that are very similar to the actual test, and you get a good score on those. Otherwise, how do you actually know you have absorbed and retained all the information you are studying? How do you know you are ready to pour out all the nice information presented in this book on the time frame allotted for the test?

Coming from a country in which these type of test do not even exist, and therefore, there is not preparation whatsoever to face a 5 hour test; and having to take the TOEFL, CLEP, SAT and a bunch of other test, I noticed that the study guides that made me feel more prepared were the ones that provided useful tips, information, and a lot of practice tests.

This study guide is well-researched and an excellent reference for new teachers. The book is aligned to the TExES outlined guidelines for elementary educators, and it provides specific information for the skills creating each competency. Written by teachers, this practical guide covers the basics of elementary subjects including Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education/Health, and the Arts. Whether used for a new teacher just entering the classroom or as a reference during your teaching career, this book is a must-have for teachers!

I love this book. I read this entire series when I was little, and I read it again this past month. The characters were as alive as they were five years ago, and I could relate in a totally new way the text of this novel.
What especially intrigued me about this series is how the characters seemed to relate to me. As a youger child, I could understand exactly where Lionel Washington came from. He had a typical Christian family, but felt his faith wasn't personal, something I struggled with when I was younger. Judd Thompson seemed to really hit the perverbial nail on the head this time. He is a control freak that needs to be doing something all the time. That is exactly how I am. Judd is also coming to grips with his attitude, which is something I can totally connect with.
This book is good if you are looking for a quick read that is exciting and, at times, heart wrenching. These characters have been through a lot, and the author really seems to capture the truth in each character.

Have you ever read something that immediately hooks you when you read the first sentence? If you have not, then you need to read this book.It will hypnotize you to read more!
Mostly the book is about how to accept Christ and go to heaven. Four kids face the last days on Earth. There are twenty-four books in this series. The main characters in this book are Lionel,Judd,Vicki and Ryan. Right now in book #4,Lionels Uncle just died. Now all the kids are banding together to arrest the man who killed Lionels Uncle.
I think the authors purpose was to tell people that you need to always know andf love Christ so you do not get Left Behind.

I really like it and I think anybody would like it.

Remember! If you want to learn more about God,then you need to read this book!

Have you ever heard of Jerry B. Jenkins writer of the Left Behind series? In book one there are three parts. Part one talks about the four main characters, Judd, Vicki, Lionel and Ryan, but I'll talk about that later. Part two, The Eve of Destruction, is a short part about the destruction. Part three, The Morning After, is the saddest part in the book.
Now, the characters. Judd, is about 18 everyone ones calls him little Judd because his fathers name is Judd, and his family doesn't give him respect. Vicki is the bad girl the rule breaker or let's just says she is the rebel. Lionel is the liar. Ryan, the skeptic he believes in everything that is the opposite of the right thing. I would recommend this 10+ because it is a good kids book.

I am on book 17 of the left behind series. This book is mainly about the rapture but those who don't neccesarily believe in this will still really like this book. There is a lot of referral to scripture and the books mainly continue till the end of the world. I rate this book five stars!!!

Please, please, parents -- I absolutely adore the Left Behind series. But what I am talking about is not the one "for kids", though I obviously am part of the group the kids series is targeted towards. No, I avidly read the real Left Behind books, and I encourage kids everywhere to do the same, because they are excellent books, especially for those seeking a stronger faith. However, the kids series is not without its flaws. The other day, I was reading the original series, and a guy I know comes up and tells me that the books are terrible. "Why?" I ask defensively and a little bit angrily. Was he insulting Christianity or the writing style?

The latter, as it turns out. And he had directed the comment at the kids series, which is what he had mistaken my book for. He had gotten zip, zero, nothing out of the kids series when his mom had pushed the books on him. But I read a couple pages out of "Tribulation Force" and a bit of the action in the original "Left Behind," and he (not to mention the two or three kids sitting next to our table) was hooked. See? Don't spoil it for your kids. Either let them read the original now, or wait a year or two until they can handle the admittedly longer real series. Thanks for reading!

good job explaining concepts.
If I may suggest something that

The material was straightforward and easy to understand, although it may have helped that our school requires us to take calculus first. I found the examples helpful...however it was brought to my attention that our faculty likes some of their "own" formulas better than the shall we say long, drawn-out tedious formulas of the book. Same answers, just different ways of getting them. Anyhow, excited to buy and resell this book through Amazon! Even more excited to be through with that class! :D

Edgar Cayce's Story of Jesus by Edgar Cayce starts with what happened before the book of Genesis and before Adam and Eve. The reader is taken to a time when only soul forms existed here. These soul forms became interconnect with life forms of different natures. Cayce incorporates this information so we can understand more fully the living Jesus. It takes a little time to comprehend.
There is another beautiful new book about Jesus, God , faith and what you will do after death entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," by John H. Eagan. I just finished it. It's really great and deals with God, the creator, Jesus' teachings, and His Passion. It brought me to tears. I think the readers of Cayce's book will really enjoy The Enlightenment.

Read it. Cayce's unconscious way of describing the beauty of this world an our opportunites to reelate with God are just beautiful. Fascinating ideas, inspirational language, beautiful inter-life stories. Can be a bit listy at times going through the various life readings that make up most of the book, but just too valuable not to read. I'm buying copies to give away.

This book is probably one of the greater books of Enlightenment. Now I advise people- "Do not change your religion according to Cayce's views on Christ, especially if you are Christian. Not even Cayce wanted you to do that". One thing is that Cayce's view of Christ was a soul like us who had many incarnations- especially Adam and Jesus. And he is the first soul to become one with God. Now Cayce has bridged Eastern ideas with Western Ideas. I think he did an amazing job in his unconsciousness connecting the dots with all world ideas on mind-body-spirit. I suggest you read this book for greater Awareness and opening your mind to new thoughts, but take everything new he says about Christ with a grain a salt, even if you are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or whatever.

Pretty amazing book. You will either believe it or not. If I were to have a qualm, it would be whether this information came from an evil source. (I'm a Catholic) but over and over it repeats the message of love. The book is enriching but does not feed the soul as the Bible does....but a very nice adjunct.

A wonderful, fast read about how to not only "do" craft projects, but how to LIVE a crafty life. Jean Railla goes into great detail explaining that the word "craft" has deeper meaning than most people realize. I especially appreciate that Jean admits she was not always crafty, and that it took her years to finally embrace the creative, domestic things in life that are so often related to crafts.

I recommend this book to any and everyone who has a bit of crafter inside them, or has always been "craft-curious." It is a great, fun book: well-written, nicely-illustrated and motivational.

This book inspired me to be crafty in so many areas of my life. It's not just about "making stuff" - it's about having an overall attitude of creating a nice life, even if you don't have much to start with. I really enjoyed reading about the author's own life and how she was inspired by friends and family members. I highly recommend this refreshing book for those who would like to make a positive change.

A Good Starting Point...

If you're interested in being more crafty but haven't really gotten into it much this book is a good starting point. The craft projects in the book aren't difficult and have good instructions. However, if you are a seasoned craftster you will probably find this book too elementary for the projects alone. It's more of an idea book and it gets you thinking about projects that aren't necessarily spelled out in the book. I refer to it often because I enjoy the author's writing style and philosophy.

Where are the Pictures?

Review Date: 2006-01-28
This was not what I expected. I am a visual learner and a book full of text in a "craft" book is very disappointing. I expect a lot of text if I am reading fiction, biography or a textbook, but in a crafts book I expect photographs of the project. There are one-color photos in the book (they have a pinkish tint), that do not really show any projects. For example, there are one-color photos of things like scissors, a ring of keys, limes, a sprig of rosemary, a pair of cleaning gloves or some other inconsequential item. The only full color picture in this book is on the cover.

There is a section in the first chapter called, ""Which Craft is Right for You?" that includes a little quiz to help you figure out what craft you might like. I have done most of the crafts in this book from crocheting, cooking and scrapbooking to quilting, gardening and needlepoint. This quiz was so off, I just laughed. Question 2: Did you make your bed this morning? Answer: If you said yes, you tend to be more detailed-oriented and like knitting, needle crafts and sewing. If you answered no, you are less detail-oriented preferring gardening, cut and paste crafts or cooking. Now, I didn't make up my bed this morning but I am getting ready to finish sewing a quilt. I am VERY detailed oriented which I think is useful when I garden (I landscaped by entire backyard alone) and when I cook (has to be right for the recipe to turn out properly...at least the first time). Today I was just more excited about sewing than making up my bed! LOL

The book is not really laid out in a logical fashion. The chapters are titled: Joy of Doing it Yourself, Importance of Home, Second Time Around, Consuming Pleasures, No Woman is an Island. There are a potpourri of projects and recipes that don't always seem to pertain to the chapter heading, i.e. stain-removing tips in the Second Time Around chapter. Seems to me it would be better in the chapter where the other cleaning products were listed.

The reason I am giving it 2 stars are because of the soap and cleaning products recipes and some of the food recipes. I have not tried any of them yet so I have no idea how effective or good they are, but at least it's was interesting and potentially useful. I would recommend looking at books that have similar topics but that contain photographs of the projects and recipes. You might want to check this out of the library before buying.

I really say 3.5 stars. Anyhow, the short work tells of the scholar, and his trip to Asia. He meets various people along the way, most of whom show him kindness, and openly share their culture with him. He is able to understand the wisdom of the people in lands such as Japan, Hong Kong, India, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Nepal (to name a few). He describes the natural beauty of the places he visits, as well as the people. His accounts are honest and from the heart.

I enjoyed the little book, and found it to tickle my interest to make a similar journey, but something larger would have been more engaging. As it is, the book calls us to be aware of our journeys, wherever they may lead us, and to be aware and grateful for what we encounter along the way.

Leo Buscaglia travels East

Review Date: 2008-07-30
For me, this book was a departure from the Leo Buscaglia I was used to. I always liked catching his lectures on PBS, and I read his fantastic book, "loving Each Other" and also "Personhood". Where-as the afore mentioned titles are written along the lines of more of a course on the subject of love; "The Way of the Bull" and something more of a travelogue where L.B. journeys East Asia and India and embarks upon making many interesting and profound connections with the people he meets.

The theme of the book has to do with journeys; not only L.B.'s journey through Asia, but everyman's journey. He explains the glimpses he gets of people on their life journies in places such as Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Bali, India, and Nepal.

Even though this book is from about 1970, the relevence to Asia is still viable. Like now, Buscaglia experiences Asia in a transition, and he becomes deeply moves by the heart and will of the Asians. As someone who has been to China, adopted a Chinese child; and has worked among the Southeast Asian American communities for some time, I can understand his enthusiasm. I too, I am quite fascinated by the Far Eastern peoples, their stories and philosophies.

I have also traveled to a remote village in Central America, and can relate to Buscaglia's deep sense of culture shock and amazement of how some people can live so simply.

L.B.'s book also encourages one to look more deeply at his or her own life journey and think about from whence we came and to where we are going.

As always I am quite taken in by Dr. Leo Buscaglia. Along with Lin Yutang, Thich Nhat Hanh, Paulo Coelho, and Og Mandino; he is one of my favorite inspirational and motivational writers.

Relationships and the moment you possess are keys to Joy

Renown for his writing about the human need for love and relationships, Leo F. Buscaglia shares his travels during the late '60s. Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Saigon, India, and Nepal are some of his destinations.

It has been said it is not the destination but the journey that is important in one's travel. Buscaglia takes this a step further in "The Way of the Bull" and says that it is the relationships you make and the moment you possess that is paramount. He travels below his means to experience the reality of the culture he visits, and his reflections are windows on cultures and caricatures of different societies that he views through the various people he meets. The title, "The Way of the Bull," is taken from a Zen book written in the 12th Century. It also is the way one finds oneself through the process of seeking life, energy, truth and action.

"This way has not always been easy, though it has been wondrous, full of excitement and discovery," Buscaglia says, as he grabs his suitcase and heads toward the approaching bus. "Travel joyously." Recommended

Philosophically this guy's a real flake. His mind is so open his brain fell out. However, he does give an interesting account of Asian and Indian cultures. He tries to give a clearer snapshot than one would get on a whirlwind tourist trip. Seems to be rather successful in doing so. However, the book would have been a much better read if he had left out the quest for religious enlightenment.

According to Oriental philosophy, going back to the 12th century, the bull represents life, energy, truth, and action. But once found, the bull cannot be tethered; he must be free. Describes us Taurus-born people to a "T."

A person should indulge in the process of seeking insight and finding himself. If you go down false paths into dead ends, away from your true nature, you suffer loneliness and despair. If you get lost along the way, you find disappointments, confusion, pain and fears.

American society is based on a person's wealth and possessions. He started questioning, "If man is his 'things,' what happens to him when he loses them or they are taken from him?" That is a perplexing illumination to ponder.

He feels that life is a trip, not a goal; and often a person becomes 'fixed' so much on the end that he totally missed life as it should have been. He decided to take The Way Of The Bull to find his purpose in life.

Life isn't the goal; it's the voyage in a creative existence -- in wonder, joy, peace and love. If you stick with the Way and learn from those you meet on your travels, it will lead you back to yourself, the only place where you can ever become. Feel free to explore other societies and places to help you grow along the way.

In this part of his journey through Life, he visited folks in Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Ceylon, India, Bali, Hong Kong, Saigon, Calcutta, and Nepal. Sounds like one of Paul Theroux's travel books? Buscaglia has written numerous books on the subject of Love, Personhood: Art of Being Fully Human, The Fall of Freddie the Leaf, and Bus 9 to Paradise.

In the complicated world of Job Training it is quite refreshing to see that "New and Improved" is not always Best. I was first introduced to the Jack Benfield EMT bender and his Benfield Conduit Bending Manual in 1979 when I first joined the IBEW, and I found the tool and the Manual to both be Superior.
Why? Because they are simple to use!!
Presently, I train Electrician Apprentices on a daily basis,
and I find so many of the other manuals unreasonably complicated in their approach to EMT bending methods, especially for Apprentices who have been in the Trade a short time. When I see
an Apprentice failing to grasp the modern (and complicated) approach, I rely on the Benfield Manual and Jack's easy and amusing approach to developing skill in the Electricians Trade.
Todays Journeyman Level Electrician can also benefit from having a copy of this book. Highly Recomended!

I used this book as my main source for studying for the TEXES EC-4 Generalist. It was extremely comprehensive and covered what I needed for the test. My only criticism is that the math section does not do a math review, but focuses on how to teach math. Therefore, if you're like me and need a little brushing up on math skills, buy the Cliff's Notes Math REview for Standardized Tests, in addition to this book. Make sure you give yourself enough time to read through this whole book (except the Theatre Arts section, which was not needed). I read through it once completely, then went back and studied key terms. I took the Generalist yesterday and felt very well prepared.

This latest edition of Tales From the Crypt is awesome! I love being able to pay only a little over thirty bucks to enjoy these fantastic and twisted tales. The binding is top notch, the colors are full and vibrant, and it is sooooooooo much cheaper than paying $100 plus an issue on ebay. There are some who find the coloring inconsistant with the original artistic scheme, so this might not be for them. But overall I am having a blast reading these brilliant books!

I love these EC Archives books and own most of them. I just received Volume 3 of Tales from the Crypt and was very disappointed to see that due to a printing error, two stories are duplicated ("Grounds for Horror" & "Sucker for a Spider") while two other stores ("A Rottin' Trick" & "Bored to Death") are omitted entirely. I have to imagine that many if not all copies of this volume are similarly misprinted. I contacted Gemstone Publishing and am awaiting a response as to how they are going to resolve this, but it may be worth holding off on buying this volume until after the issue has been corrected.

In this oversized volume, EC and MAD expert Grant Geissman presents a guide to vintage EC and MAD collectibles ranging from the turn of the 20th century to the early 1990s.

Geissman is arguably one of the leading authorities on MAD and EC, and the book is filled with historical info alongside the rare merchandise. He also includes an interview with William Gaines that was conducted shortly before Gaines' death.

The MAD section, which comprises the majority of the book, has, in my opinion, the most interesting section-rare and unusual Alfred E. Neuman merchandise. Alfred existed for over 50 years before MAD as a humorous folk creation, and the range of items presented are both amusing and fascinating from a historical perspective.

I deducted a star because the book is mostly black and white, with a brief color section. While cost-effective, it would have been nice to see these items in living color.

Overall, "Collectibly MAD" is highly recommended for old-school MAD fans.
