What an amazing and healthy approach to bill collecting!
Not only have I read this book but I have worked for the author, Bill Arnold, in his previous collection training endeavors. This is a case where the man and the material in the book, are the same. Mr. Arnold practices what he penned and has an incredibly healthy attitude and successful business record because of it.

"Make Them Happy, Make Them Pay" is just what it says...find a way to make the collectee (NOT "deadbeat"!!!) happy that you called, happy that you were creative in determining ways to convince them that this it is to their advantage to pay on their debts and happy that you did it with a positive attitude. You of course, will be happy with the increased number of collectee's paying higher amounts on the bad debt and you might actually be happy with the way you did it.

This is not just a feel good book about warmth and fuzziness but a how to, hands on, here are some examples guide to successful collection.

The lack of a fifth star is not meant as a poor reflection on Mr. Arnold, I just haven't read any other collection books like his, so there is less for me to compare it to. It's a very HIGH QUALITY 4 stars! :) Enjoy!!!

One fatal mistake
Don't get me wrong! This is a very good book. But it containswhat is, in my opinion, a fatal mistake that brings into question the entire credibility of the author. In page 83 of the paperback edition, it states "...the research of an Italian doctor, Cesare Lambrusco. This name, Lambrusco, is repeated two lines down and also in the Index. Mr. Bodenhamer had, I believe, Cesare Lombroso in mind, the founder of the so-called Criminal Anthropology, as anybody having taken intro criminology would tell you. The problem is that the mistake shows such sloppiness as to cast a negative shadow on every and all assertions of fact contained in the book. How can one know whether dates, names, constitutional cases, etc. are correctly identified? One cannot. If a student made such a mistake (and only that mistake) I would not hesitate in flunking him.
