Just WonderfulGoodnight Moon gets all the hype, but I like Big Red Barn even better. This is a simple story about all the animals who live on a farm and the things they do during the day. No humans are anywhere to be found in this tale. The illustrations are simple and sweet. My 8 month old daughter just loves this book! It's very soothing for bedtime, especially because at the end of the story, all the animals go to sleep in the barn. Wonderful!
Wonderful story for children and adults alikeThis is one of Margaret Wise Browns best books, Children of any age will love it. The text flows beautifully without being too silly and the illustrations are great for children learning their animals. We've had this book since my son was ten months old and it is still one of his most favorite books, and even after reading this a million times it is still one of my most favorite childrens stories. How did I miss this one as a child?
Love this book!My son loves this book! We've been reading it to him since he was 4-5 months old and he turns 1 next week and he still wants us to read this to him every day. I could probably recite the book word-for-word by memory from reading it so much, but the illustrations are so cute and it makes my son happy, so I will probably never get tired of it. I highly recommend this book!

Horribly prejudiced towards Mary Beth Whitehead!Ms. Chesler did not write a factual book. She wrote an extremely one-sided book, portraying the Sterns as disgusting, nasty people and Saint Mary Beth. Her defense for the real mother ignores such facts as Mary Beth's rejection of her son Ryan, her unfounded claims of Mr. Stern's sexual abuse against her daugher (oddly, she mentions a case where another mother's claim of such abuse against her child go unbelieved. How can anyone take these claims seriously when mothers like Mary Beth tell such lies?), and the fact the Mary Beth denied ever threatening to kill Baby M.

During World War II, the U.S. Treasury Department mounted seven campaigns to sell bonds that helped fund the war effort. These campaigns, writes Lawrence R. Samuel in this illuminating work of social history, turned on a conception of Americans as a people united against Fascism, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or class. The pitch worked extremely well, raising more than $150 billion. It also raised expectations, especially among African Americans, that the pledge to fight racist policies abroad would apply to the home front as well. The 1942 Double-V campaign, in fact, included a slogan promising a commitment to fight democracy's enemies at home and abroad--a slogan that was dropped after certain politicians complained that it was subversive. Samuel makes tentative links between such progressive ideas and the birth of the civil rights movement, which adds to an already fascinating study.
