JERSEY CITY IN PICTURES, PICTURES & MORE PICTURES
I WAS LOOKING FOR A BOOK OF PICTURES THAT WERE TAKEN AT THE SAME TIME THAT I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN JERSEY CITY. IT SEEMS THAT EVERY STREET I WALKED AS A CHILD, THE SCHOOLS I ATTENDED, AND THE PLACES I SHOPPED, WERE THERE. IT IS THE CLOSEST THING I HAVE TO A PHOTO ALBUM OF THE CITY IN WHICH I LIVED. IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK IN TIME, THIS BOOK DELIVERS THAT FEELING. I WISH MR.FRENCH WOULD DO ANOTHER AND ANOTHER AND THEN ANOTHER. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY WELL THOUGHT OUT WHEN THE PICTURES WERE ARRANGED AND GROUPED. YOU WILL FIND HE HAS IDENTIFIED THE PHOTO'S VERY WELL USING FEW WORDS.

Wonderful book, brought back so many memories
I thought it was an absolutely wonderful book that you can reread many times and never get bored. I found so many familiar places in the book and it brought back so many wonderful memories.

True, candid, a real life glimpse of the EMS system ...
The Knife and Gun Club gives a candid and uncensored look into Denver General Hospital's Emergency Room and Paramedic Division. Richards has captured the spirit of the personell of the Denver General ER. As an EMT trained at Denver General and the daughter of one of Denver General's first paramedics, I found this book very accurate and true to life. It spares no detail and gives the true flavor of one of the nations top trauma centers and emergency departments. If you have any interest in the emergency field, I suggest you read this book for a truthful look into an emergency room and the lives of the people who work in the emergency system. This book is fabulous, and very well written. Richards pulls the reader in to Denver General and all its supporting emergency systems. I have never read a better documentation or representation of the way emergency medicine in all its aspects truely is.

An un-censored look into emergency medicine & EMS in Denver
Richard's provides an unbiased look into the world of emergency medicine at Denver General hospital and Denver Emergency Medical Services. This book couples full page black & white pictures with interviews with various health proffesionals. A true look at the events and emotions surrounding emergency care.

Wow.
This book is incredible -- an honest and sensitive portrait of life in the changing Sonoran desert. I picked it up yesterday and haven't been able to stop looking at it since. Apart from the photography, there are two wonderful essays. In the second, "Another Country", Thomas E. Sheridan tells of falling in love with a place in a way that speaks intimately to my own experience of and passion for Mexico. But I'd better stop before I give a whole dissertation... Buy this book! You won't regret it.

Award Winning Photographs of People of Sonora, Mexico
Superb black and white photographs, with accompanying essays, concentrate on ordinary people. The result transcends its geographic region; this is about people who just happen to live in Sonora. Winner, Border Regional Library Association's 1998 Southwest Book Award.

Irresistible little gem of a book!
There is something addictive about this little book, filled with seemingly dull, commercial postcards from Germany. The heft and compact size of it make you want to pick it up again and again and dream about the modern Europe of the 60's and 70's. No words get in the way. The images are of autobahns, health spas, restaurants, apartment buildings...and the overall effect of seeing these tidy, newly built spaces--without people--is somehow poignant, hopeful, serene and surreal. Often, geometric shapes dominate a landscape or visual field, and the postcard becomes a reduced, abstract scene which may or may not have been photographed on earth. "Boring" postcards is strangely fascinating!

Is this the best book I have ever read?
Yes, this is the best book I have ever read.

Award Winner for Book Design
This book has won a Southern Books Competition Award of Honorable Mention for Book Design from the Southeastern Library Association. This award is given in recognition of the book's aesthetic appeal and design and for fine craftsmanship in its printing and binding. Congratulations to photographer Philip Gould, author Jason Berry, designer Laura Roubique Gleason, printer Dai Nippon Printing, and the Louisiana State University Press.

An ace of a book
Phillip Gould has been an astute and quirky observer of Louisiana life for a couple of decades. Though a transplant he has established serious and widely respected local roots. He speaks Cajun/Creole French; he speaks to the heart. This finely honed selection of portaits echoes every strophe of Louisiana life. His visages map and mirror what Louisiana is and is about. They stand as a testament to a place and its cultures-- a singular place at that, fiercely individual cultures to boot; a world and its folkways that still tenaciously remain undiluted into the general American homogeneity. Gould's reportorial eye is keen and witty, his pictures are trenchant and lambent and are destined to imprint and remain.

superbly photographed
A very moving and beautiful book. Not only were the transvestite and drag queen photographs very well done, but also boldly done as well were the male-to-female transsexual photographs. Even taken with full frontal nudity, the pictures were very tasteful and classy showing the variance of the transsexual woman's body regardless of whether gender-reassignment surgery would be performed. A great book for my personal home library indeed. I truly loved it.

a one-of-a-kind, special book
beautiful triptyphs of transvesities, drag queens and manywonderful, nude pixs of male-to-female transsexuals

Marilyn by Moonlight: A Remembrance in Rare Photos
It is just a little difficult to state; at the risk of sounding completely redundant, however, "beauty is beauty". When it came to Marilyn Monroe, she was synonomous with the word. This book was written by one of Monroe's fan clubs, (Marilyn Remembered Club). It presents to the reader previously unpublished photos of her during her childhood thru the last days of her life. The book features truly enjoyable and memorable photos from some of her most significant films. Some even show her posing candidly with fans off the set in her "Sugar" Kovalschek costume, from "Some Like It Hot". "Marilyn By Moolight: A Remembrance in Rare Photos", should be a must have addition to any serious Monroe fan as well as any person who enjoys viewing a person who in my opinion personified,(and still does), what feminine beauty is all about. I heartily endorse this book. It is a proud addition to my extensive "Marilyn Monroe" collection.

excellent photo book
This book is written by the Marilyn Remembered Fan Club with Quotes by Marilyn Monroe and containes some of the most beautiful digitally restored photo's of her. This is one book to own if you are looking for a MM book.

Never Seen Better!
I just got this book for Christmas, and it was by far the best gift. As a Californian who is in LOVE with New York, I could not have asked for a better book. The photos will leave you speechless, and longing for the city that never sleeps. I just spent 2 hours going through the different photos, and I can honestly say I have never seen a book that has done the city justice like this one. If you want a good book with photos that need NO explanation, this is it. I would not change this book for the world.

Breathtaking views of New York
I am not a big buyer of "coffee table books" but I made an exception for this one. The photographer is the brother of a boyhood friend of mine (Richard, if you're reading this, tell Jim I said hello!) and I got the book for my parents as a gift. I spent hours pouring over the incredible pictures thinking time and time again, HOW did he take THAT? I can only describe the pictures as breathtaking, sumptuous, and evocative of a New York that is all too easy to take for granted if you've lived in it. The pictures here make you see it anew.

THEY WILL RISE AGAIN!!
I bought this book back in 1999. I am a New Yorker and I wanted a book that showcased all of my wonderful city. I never, in my wildest dreams, thought that I would have to look at this book in order to ever see the World Trade Center again. After the attack on New York City on Sept.11, 2001, my whole world as I knew it changed forever. This wonderful, beautiful book is my only reminder of the New York City that I have known and loved all my life. I know the Twin Towers will rise again! Until then I have my book!

A great documentation
I bought the book based on the coverphoto. Regarding that I in fact wanted a book on New York, I cannot say I regret it. The book is fully illustrated with beautiful photographs of New Yorks five boroughs. Though I`ve been to New York five times before I`ve only been to Manhattan and Queens, but I surely was tempted to see all five boroughs when I go back during fall -99. The photographs has a soul in a way and all represent a motion or a mood that I catched right away. I could actually feel the smells the sounds and the dynamic pulse New York stands for. Pete Hamill's text as an introduction to each borough gives the reader a fully good and poetic insight in New Yorks majestic soul.

Hauntingly beautiful; redefines landscape photography for me
The photos of this book have the technical excellence of Ansel Adams pictures (except they are not B+W). But they are not vistas of pristine, pretty National parks that Adams shot; here the hand of man is all too present.

Breathtakingly beautiful and wondrous!
Beahan and McPhee have eloquently captured both our enmeshment with nature, and Her attempts to hold fast. Photos so beautiful you catch your breath.
