The Bible for Component Database Systems
The book covers almost every aspect of the component database systems. It is especially helpful to someone who wants to explore this new technology. It would be great if more details are provided in some chapters. Overall, this book worth much more than its price.

Great introduction to concurrent programming with objects
This book provides a good introduction to Concurrent and Object Oriented Programming in Java. I was fortunate enough to take Dr. Kann's class last semester, while this book was being finalized. This is probably the best book I have been assigned as a class textbook while in school, both in readability, and usefulness.

Reading this book will make programming concurrent applications in Java easy, just by following the design patterns in the text. Use of notification objects and synchronization is well explained. If you'd like to understand object oriented concepts such as composition and classification in an easy to understand way, this book will help. Throughout the course of the book, the reader can watch the construction of a concurrent program from beginning to end. The concurrent program (the animator), is also a handy class which can be used to perform simple multithreaded animations.

The section on distributed computing (Java RMI) implements a simple chat client/server in Java which can be used across the internet. Very easy to write your own chat program in Java using the material in this book.

Code included in the book should have you up and running quickly. If you're ready to start utilizing the full power of java objects and multithreading, buy this book.

Excellent description of important computer architecture
Client/server and distributed computing is of critical importance to any organisations effective us of Information Technology. This importance has only been heightened by the explosive growth of the Internet. This book very clearly introduces the main concepts and issues with distributed computing and it then presents an architectural approach for addressing those issues. The architecture presented covers both new and legacy systems and also the range of distribution approaches from request/reply, through messaging to object-oriented. The major conclusion of the book is the importance of federated architectures and the issues and opportunities available through implementing such an approach. As someone who has worked in this area for many years I found the book very useful, informative, and immediately applicable to current problems I am working on. The material is well illustrated with many practical examples and realistic case studies, including a chapter describing a similar approach independently implemented by a large bank. The book also includes an appendix listing major vendors and products that are relevant to distributed computing architectures. For any organisations looking to implement, exploit, or extend their distributed computing systems this book is a very important study of the area and offers a real-life solution for many of the issues. For anyone just wanting to learn about distributed computing I would also recommend this book to them.

Distributed Feedback Laser Diodes: Principles and Physic
Excellent book. Clearly written and very didactic. It gives a very good introduction on distributed feedback lasers. Useful both as learning material for senior students of electrical engineering or physics and as a reference for researchers. It covers most important aspects of the physics and design of distributed feedback lasers.

Complete coverage
This book is among the best in this field. The discussion of conveyor-belt robotics is captivating, as is the thorough coverage of vornoi-centered inverse kinematics. I would heartily recommend this book to any student of sensorless navigation.

The only negative aspect is that no account of FRAS is provided as is the case in some other books on this subject.

Overall, I give the book high marks for grammar and spelling.

An excelent compilation of articles on the subject of DSM
I was amazed with this title. A very comprehensive selection of articles on DSM, giving the reader an inside look to the state of the art of distributed memory. Very good editors introductions to chapters, explaining the articles by other authors.

The only problem is that the book does not mention the articles published after 1997. But comprehensive discussion helped me understand later research.
