Excellent discussion of .Net Remoting
When I first started reading this book, I thought "Oh no - 3 chapters of intro and a large appendix". I naturally skipped over the intro and started reading what I thought was the first Real chapter. I kept finding interesting references back to an intro chapter "Introduction to .Net Remoting". I finally read this chapter and was pleasantly surprised to find a clear and comprehensive explanation of channels and contexts. The "This is .Net" intro chapter had a great explanation of versioning in .Net. So I'd recommend reading this book from the beginning - or at least start with chapter 2.

The rest of the book allowed me to complete a moderately size distributed project in a lot less time that I thought it would. There is also a great chapter on using transactions under Component Services. I was also able the complete my last MCAD certification test (VB XML) based mainly on what I got out of this book.

This book has no fluff and is packed with a lot of key concepts and practical code samples. The only downside was the brief coverage and dismissal of Web Services. The Appendix turned out to be coverage of ADO.Net written by Andrew Troelsen. I didn't read this chapter because I was already up to speed on ADO.Net. But having read a couple of Troelsen's other books, my guess is that it's pretty good.

A Must Have for Distributed Programming
I have been working with .Net Remoting for a couple months and this book has more detailed information in it, than I could find anywhere. Not only did it help reinforce the fundamentals of remoting, it explores many advanced topics and gives easy to follow examples. The approach is practical and direct even with difficult topics. This book saved me hours of time by explaining in depth delegates and remote callbacks. I highly suggest this book for anyone working with remoting, web services or other distributed programming topics.

Also, the code used in the examples can be downloaded from the book's website in C# or VB.NET.

Introduction to MultiAgent Systems

Excellent Introduction
Wooldridge's book is a great introduction that guides the reader from motivations, over several agent architectures through to chapters about interaction, methodology and much more. It gets very close to Weiss's book on Distributed Artificial Intelligence but presents a more readable treatise leaving out some of the details and formalisms.
This book will equip the reader with the necessary foundations (and more) allowing her to explore more involved issues on her own. As a companion to Gerhard Weiss's book or as a comprehensive introduction of its own, this book is definitely unbeaten so far.

Fantastic book
This book is great to read and highly informative! You can learn about intelligent agents from one of the big names in Agent research.

You CAN judge this book by its cover!
Finally, a handbook that offers sage advice and realistic strategies
for overcoming some of the common client/server glitches that crop
up during application development.

It is not the normal overloaded, technical tome, that you later call a 'reference'
as it collects dust on the shelf. This is the 'guide' you should use to
increase your OPO skills, and assist fellow developers.

The only book you will need for using OPOv2
This book is one the best technical book I have ever read, Oracle or not.

Coming from a Oracle DBA background, I really appreciate the effort the authors had put into in maintaining data integrity, etc.

Unlike other database front-end tool books, this book really takes pain to remind readers that the front-end does nothing without a sound usage of the underlying data.

The examples in the book are excellent. They are all easy to follow and have advanced usage of OPO techniques, especially the object-oriented programming part.

As the book title implies, this is the book to get if you wanna be a OPO master

Very Good For Non Programmer
This is a good books for non programmer who wish to learn client server programming on Power Builder. By learning this book , the non programmer will pick up the client server programming knowledge in a pretty short period of time. We strongly recommend any non programmer, who wish to learn power builder to read this book. It is great to have one. Enjoy reading and hope to see everyone be a certified power builder programmer.

A well written book--a nice resource
The book is a great resourse for beginners. The book has an excellent introduction on client/server technology and object-oriented programming. The authors did an excellent job to keep it simple and easy to follow at the same time very effectively explained some very complicated concepts. Though the scope is introduction to PowerBuilder but it can be a good read for experienced programmers. The book also has a tutorial that gives a more hands on approach. I enjoyed the book very much and do recommend to anybody thinking to learn PowerBuilder.

Exellent Book
Very well written. I recommend this book to others that need to work with remoting.

Great Book for beginners
I have worked with C# for some time now. I really wanted to learn about .NET Remoting and I did not have much idea about building distributed systems. This book gives you a step by step approach and it does require you to have some basic knowledge in any OOP language. Knowing some C# would be beneficial.

Thanks to the author for publishing this book! Excellent!

A Very Good Book
The book is very good, very easy to read and easy to follow. In a few days you would be able to retrieve and update data using ADO. Highly recommended, especially for beginners.

Buy it. These guys really understand ADO 2.5
I was the tech editor of this book, so I've read every word. The authors dig deeply into ADO 2.5 and get into under-used but fascinating areas of the technology such as ADOX, Shapes, Streams and COM+. As I said in the cover quote, these guys really do understand the technology - they aren't just regurgitating the Microsoft documentation. Also, check out the huge amount of very valuable code in the book. Most of it is in Visual Basic for Applications which can be adapted easily for Active Server Pages or regular VB. Although the book is not designed as a reference book, I often use it to look up ADO syntax that I've forgotten. This is a great book to learn ADO 2.5 and to apply it in real world scenarios.

Clearity and Simplicity
I'm biased since I have worked with Pentti on his Sparse Distributed Memories at NASA Ames. I would highly recommend you reading his book since he is very careful and general in his use of statistics of large bit vectors. I am continually amazed at how much can be extracted from such vectors and the richness of their properities. SDM is similar to associative memories but simpler in form but just as general. Work is continuing at the Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS) on Dr. Kanerva's ideas.

Powerful but simple theory.
Like most powerful theories this one is simple. It describes a mathematical model that mimics some aspects of human memory. The book is also refreshingly concise for an academic work.

An excellent resource on EAServer/Jaguar CTS
A must have book for all EAServer/Jaguar CTS developers. It covers in detail about the development & production strategy. It helps to achieve a good component design. I have implemented the Momento Class component design in my project from this book. It also covers extensively the usage of PowerDynamo along with Jaguar CTS. I strongly recommend the EAServer community to buy this Book to ease their development effort. Looking forward to see more books on Sybase tools. Well done Mike & Jason Weiss.

Good Read for Sybase Tools User
I give the authors of this book a thumbs up for giving the Sybase Tools programmer a useful book for understanding the EAServer environment. It is easy to read and follow. An intermediate PowerBuilder / Java developer will find it helpful. I really like the section on using PowerDynamo with EAServer. I would guess that Michael Barlotta only carries over about 25% of the material he covered in his first Jaguar book. The Sybase community needs more books like this one.

Testing Client/Server Systems (Client/Serving Computing)

The best I've seen so far on Client/Server testing
This book is well written and easy to read considering the subject matter. I read it all the way through in 1 week, and I use it OFTEN as a reference. Every serious C/S tester should have a copy on their shelf...my copy seems to spend a lot of time open on my desk!

A good companion if you fall prey to client/server testing
This book gives fair treatment to the idosyncratic issues concerning client/server testing with the general testing cycle in perspective. I personally appreciate those chapters specifically addressing each of the easily overlooked and yet important aspects of client/server testing. What's more it's quite easy to understand and well-organized. This helps me further reinforce my hands-on experience of testing. I could not but devour half of the book in one sitting.

Concise & Clear
A remarkably concise and clear intoduction to client/server application development with VB. A good first book to read before you get into the details of coding.

Best book on Visual Basic 5!
This book is what I've been looking for! It covers it all, from the Visual Basic environment itself to how to write a database application. Excellent examples and the language is very easy to read. Great book!
