It's not just another view ...
I find Prof Huang's "Selling China" much more than just an academic achievement which it is -- with its disciplined arguments supported by a wealth of well-researched facts.

After 18 years of working on the Greater China scene -- most of it foreign investment related, for me, the greatest value of the book is its main theme -- that the large inflow of FDI over the years reflects weaknesses rather than strengths of the Chinese system. It is not just another point of view in the already overcrowded gallery of China commentary. For me, the well-argued and well-researched "unconventional" view answers some of the key China investment related questions at a very practical level, and should have important implications for government policy making and corporate decision making alike.

the year's best book on china
I have seen a number of rave reviews for this book in various economic journals and now I have read the book myself. This is a must read for those who wishes to gain a deep understanding of China's fast-evolving economic and business landscape. I also recommend it to readers who are interested in an unconventional and novel take on foreign direct investment

European Integration and Foreign Direct Investment in the EU
I think this book explains very well how the economic integration in the Europe affects on the Korean consumer electronics firms. In particular, the empirical survey is very useful for not only Korean firms but also firms in other less developed countries, which consider to make FDIs in the Europe.

A Master Piece, very intelligent and very direct
7 weeks ago I aquired a hard cover copy of the original version of Joe Karbo's The Lazy Mans Way To Riches,it took me 2 days to read, and put his ideas into action and i have to admit by the 3rd week i have earned,a very high 5 figure sum of lovely cash, more than i earn in a single year's salary.

I firmly beleive within the next 12 months i can and will earn over Million.I have been astounded,if you need money, buy this book and make it work for you, like i have for me. GOOD LUCK

Best and most unusual self-help book I've ever read!
I've read about 75 of the best known self-help books, and TheLazy Man's Way to Riches is the most unusual one, and it actuallyworks! If you want to actually accomplish things, get it - but get the ORIGINAL, 1973 edition, which AMAZON.COM has in paperback and hardcover. Avoid the re-issue or the "Roadmap" workbook, both written 13 years after Joe Karbo's death. They are loaded with extraneous writing that sometimes contradicts the original text within.

My favoriate book to give away
I have had a copy of this book since 1995 and it has had an amazing effect in my life. Whenever I've had problems I've cracked this book open and gotten things moving ahead again! I've given many copies away to friends and family...no wonder over 3 million copies have sold! I'm a big fan of the lazy way!

Too institutionalized.
Disappointed. Another review by a major brokerage employee trying to drum up business. I do not care about the history of the investing world or how the good old boys operate on the floors of the major exchanges. They are irrelevant to the little
guy at home who wants to know HOW, not WHAT. Short on specifics, long on "Boy, do I know a lot that you will never know, but if you try really hard and have the perspicacity of a saint and minimize your losses and maximize your gains, you will maybe do ok". Give me a break! Save your money and time!

21st century futures trading at its best!
Everyone always touts direct access stock trading and how great it is for the retail investor, but Mr. Silverman is one of the first to address this issue for futures trading.

Although I don't agree with everything Mr.Silverman has to say about floor traders, his experience definitely lends credence to the ideas in his book. I have been trading futures for the past 12 years, both as a broker and an investor. In that time I have written three books on futures trading.

Mr. Silverman has done a great job of putting this book together. I definitely recommend this book to those who have listened to my seminars or purchased my books.

direct access futures
I have bought a lot of books about futures trading and after reading them I usually feel like I have wasted my money. That's why this book was such a delightful surprise. In addition to providing useful and understandable information about electronic trading, the author, Mr. Silverman, can really write. It was really interesting to learn about life on the trading floor and how it compares to trading electronically. His anecdotes about his 20 year career in the futures markets really brought to life the pressures and rewards of being a professional trader. I especially appreciated his insight into e-mini trading. For the first time, I understood the shenaningans that the traders on the floor and on the screen pull to provide themselves with an edge over the retail trader. The great thing about electronic trading, as Silverman argues, is that it allows someone like me who cannot trade on the floor of an exchange to compete on a level playing field. By opening a window into the secretive world of the successful trader, Silverman shows that the differences between the professional and non-professional trader are relatively small when trading electronically. His advice has already helped me improve my p/l. As they say about the movies, if you buy only one book about futures this year it should be this one. I highly recommend it.

The Motley Fool's Investing Without a Silver Spoon: How Anyone Can Build Wealth Through Direct Investing
Published in Paperback by Motley Fool (August, 1999)
Authors: Jeff Fischer and David Gardner
Amazon base price: $15.00
Used price: $19.00
Collectible price: $74.11

Dispelling the myth that it takes big money to make big money, Motley Fool writer Jeff Fischer champions direct investing, showing how individual investors can build substantial wealth with relatively small outlays of cash. Starting with as little as $50, an investor can purchase stock directly from a company, thereby avoiding intermediary charges incurred by using a broker. Fischer then explains how money compounds so that even small monthly investments can become significant nest eggs. In a section titled "How Do I Become a Millionaire?" he lists several ways to do so: "Begin with $500, save $1,200 annually, or $100 a month, and earn 15% per year. In 33 years, you'll have over $1 million." Or "Begin broke, save $2,400 a year, or $200 monthly, earn the stock market's historic 11% annual return, and in 36 years you'll have more than one million clams." Fischer presents basic investing principles here--a little over time becomes a lot--but like a typical Fool, he does so in a lighthearted, easy-to-understand fashion. The bulk of the book (300-plus pages), however, focuses on listings for more than 1,000 direct-investment plans, including company contact information, investing schedules, minimum and maximum investment amounts, and miscellaneous selling info. (For example, Roslyn Bancorp Inc.: "Sells within 10 bus. days, by mail, at avg. price, for $10 + comm.") A good resource for the cash-light beginning investor. --Rob McDonald

They DId Not Hold Up In The Crash
They loved Enron at the peak. Their methods are questionable.

Excellent resource of information.
The first third of this book is detailed information about how to analyze stock numbers, ratios, etc. That's quite valuable information and key to developed a system of analysis to figure out the stocks in which you want to invest.

What surprised me was the *rest* of the book! They compiled a comprehensive list of hundreds and hundreds of companies which have dividend reinvestment and related plans. This made calling those companies for more info so easy! So easy to get started with investing my savings for the long term. BUY THIS -- you won't regret it.

Great book for beginning investors
I bought this book because it promised that I coud start investing with very little cash, and it has delivered. I have just about finished the book, and am already planning on starting investing in my first DRIP plan. I highly recommend that anyone who needs to start investing look into direct investment plans, and consider buying this book.

Every independent contractor should have this information!
I will be encouraging those whom I sponsor into the direct sellong industry to read this book. I have been in the industry for 35 years. I have been at the field level where I have developed million dollar organizations as well as thre corporate level as first Director of Training and and also as VP of Sales and Marketing for companies in the Direct Selling Association (DSA). There has been a void in the training of independent contractors on this subject and this book has addressed that need. The content is presented in easy to understand language, with basic and practical information.
