Packed with Knowledge! This is an extraordinary, in the sense of out-of-the-ordinary, book. Flipping through it, you see page after page of loops and curves. At first, you might think it is a guide to drawing. And in a sense, it is. Most of the book explains how to use depictions of various types of loops to represent different kinds of business problems. Such problems never occur in isolation, because every business is a system, and everything that happens in a business has causes and effects that reach into other areas of the business and into the outside world. Author Dennis Sherwood is not peddling a simple notion, but rather is explaining "systems thinking," a method of analyzing systems and processes. We unexpectedly found this quite entertaining, written with a light touch and bound to give almost any manager some new, valuable insights. On the down side, the author probably could have delivered his core message more succinctly, and after a while his insistence on demonstrating and categorizing the species and genera of loops begins to seem, well, a bit loopy.

Surgical Decision Making

surgical decision makingClear, concise, and to the point. This is an excellent reference for medical students, residents, and surgeons preparing for the boards. It would also be recommended for primary care physicians who may not deal with these types of problems on a daily basis. The chapters are in the form of large, easy to understand algorithms. After seeing how most of these problems are solved, the reader will be able to develop his or her own approach to other types of cinical puzzles. This makes for very fast reading.

The Down and DirtyI've used this book on the run to clinical sites, and for keyword type presentations.
I have the usual suspects on my book shelf,.. Big Miller, Baby Miller, Morgan and Mikhail, Barash, Secrets, and that terrific Benumof tome, Anesthesia and Uncommon Diseases.
Have to say that this is an ultra concise resource, and worth a place on the bookshelf for its sheer timesaving qualities.

Eye-opening look at the likely scenario for the next war.Bob Chandler uses evidence gleaned from U.S. military and international open sources to convincingly demonstrate that Saddam Hussein in the Gulf War wrote the 'how-to' manual for Third-World dictators who want to use biological and chemical weapons effectively. Chandler argues that the U.S. and its allies dodged the bullet of weapons of mass destruction by not pursuing Saddam, but that we will not be so lucky next time. Biological and chemical weapons, in addition to being stockpiled in the heart of Iraq, can be easily developed using available research and technology, by available personnel, in relatively modest space. Chandler argues that the U.S. must recognize that the era of weapons of mass destruction has arrived, and strategize accordingly. Today's military must acknowledge the issue and make decisions today that enable us to counter tomorrow's war
