Excellent book
The book is probably the best Ophthalmology text ever written. It has a very broad content and the information results very useful. It`s also incredibly well ilustrated and the print is of the highest quality. It`s a pleasure to read this masterwork.

Probably the best general ophthalmic text available
This is currently the preferred general text-book in Melbourne, Australia for studying for our equivalent of the board examinations. It is comprehensive, up-to-date and lucid. There is minimal extraneous information, but sufficient detail for the purposes of most general ophthalmologists. It is liberally illustrated, and the quality of photographs is generally very high indeed. There are a few photographs of difficult to photograph conditions that are not up to the generally excellent quality.

My main complaints at present are the too common typographical errors and variations in format across chapters.

a milestone for the new millenium
Congratulations to the books'editors and contributors for having produced the new standard reference one volume textbook in Ophth.Terrific layout, generous and outstanding illustrations and tables, text from some of the worlds' best clinicians and researchers and on top of that a joy for the eye! That's how medical books will look in the new millenium. It's a pity it only came out a few months before finishing my residency.

The greatest work of prose that you have never heard of
And the Waters Prevailed is one of the greatest works of prose literature in recent history. The tone of the writing is incomparably eloquent, and the book's philosophical message is one which cries out for an audience, anywhere, to simply listen. In my top five works of all time, easily --Read This Book!

FACES 2003 review
Text was passed from hand to hand at the FACES 2003 Encephalitis Conference, and received very positive feedback from the survivors, caregivers and loved ones who viewed it. It seems every person there wishes to acquire a copy for medical professionals in their own neighbourhood. An excellent reference book.

Clinical Anatomy

Good for quick review.
Concise overview of regional anatomy with emphasis on key relationships and clinical relevance. Not a comprehensive or detailed oriented anatomy but useful for quick review in the clinical setting.

Anatomy made memorable for students at all stages
In this compact text clinical anatomist and professor of surgery Harold Ellis has produced another excellent text (like Lecture Notes on General Surgery).

This "pocket-sized" (big pockets) book is portable and practical. It is well laid out by sections and each body area is examined in terms of systems. A clear explanation of superficial anatomy allows one to learn/revise on oneself (or a slim/muscular friend) the bony landmarks, muscular attachments and pulses. Bones, joints, vessels and nerves are dissected in a similar manner. Best of all, at each stage, common clinical applications are explained in clear language, so that it becomes easy to remember which nerve may be damaged by a dislocated shoulder, or structures are encountered in the various approaches for a hemiarthroplasty. The lucid (though never condescending) prose is well complemented by clear diagrams and imaging.

Some people will find this book is not detailed enough for them, and it does not claim to be a definitive anatomy text covering everything down to the vein supplying the rhubarb gland, but many more students will find it perfectly adequate for their requirements. Certainly as someone who learned lists of anatomy for first year exams, passed them, and -- I'm not alone here -- promptly forgot it afterwards, the old comprehensive parrot-fashion approach to learning was ineffective.

If you can read and recall all of the information in this book, you will be well prepared for most casual clinical requirements in many specialities. I find that information presented in this manner is easy, even pleasurable, to read and, I expect, more likely to lead to retention than traditional dry anatomy texts.

A life saver for examination
It saved my life when I did my 1st MB exam, my final MB exam and my FRCS exam. The best investment in my life.

Gothic Earth adds spice to "steampunk" adventures
The Gothic Earth setting is by far the most realistic adventure setting from TSR in decades, but, as noted in another review, successful play requires a good knowledge of the late 19th century, its customs, technology, etiquette, etc. This is NOT beyond the scope of anything required by any "steampunk" RPG, such as "Space 1889" or "Castle Falkenstein" or the "Cthulhu by Gaslight" 1890s campaign. Any background research into "our" world which has been done for any of those games is just as valid for Gothic Earth, and this campaign setting should actually require less mental gymnastics than "Falkenstein" or "1889."

The boxed set is VERY nice, and the maps and illustrations are unexpectedly beautiful (in a horrifically Gothic way, of course!), far above typical TSR standards, but the presentation and background of "the Red Death" entity (Gothic Earth's answer to the Voices of the Mists of Ravenloft) is rather feeble; most skilled GM's could come up with something better as a house rule. The mini-module, "The Red Death," which is included in the boxed set is, however, a very different matter; based upon Poe's "Masque of the Red Death," I adapted it to a "Falkenstein" game (it would have worked just as well in any other 19th century game) and shocked the heck out of my players; it is so obviously based upon the Poe story, however, that player knowledge can easily become a problem.

By and large, it's worth the price, and far less grim than Ravenloft itself.

Looking for a change in AD&D
This is by far the most original campaign setting in the AD&D line. While all other campaign settings are rather hack and slash, medieval settings. This setting takes you to 19th century earth in the 1890's. Where you can fight the villians some of the lords of Ravenloft were based after. You can fight Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Mummies in real Egyptian tombs, and many many more. The only problem is that to do a really good game of Masque, one must do a whole lot of research about the 1890's. I ended up reading 3 books about the History of L.A. where my campaign was taking place in. But if you love to do real good research for a campaign, this is the world for you! Oh, H.P. Lovecraft stories are really great adventure ideas for this setting!

Masque of the Red Death Boxed Set...
Ever wondered whats like to play a Ravenloft campaign in the world we live in? This boxed set gives you everything you need to get started in gothic like horror role playing in Earth, in the year 1890. A general map, the character classes and abilities. Its just another good oportunity to role play something quite new... You'll love it.

Essential Reference for the Scarred Lands
With all the cross-referencing on the screen itself, I would have to see that this is the best DM Screen I've seen in all my years of gaming. The booklet itself is absolutely necessary to run Scarred Lands not for the adventures, which are not all that great but for the information on the various races of Ghelspad, the main continent used for the adventures in this campaign setting. Between these few pages and the sheer versatility of the screen itself, it's very much worth getting. The adventures are short little nubs good for filler or for when the big adventure you, the DM have been plotting and crafting for a whole week gets flat out rejected or by passed by the characters and you need something quick to fill in. But again, you'll use the reference material in the front a lot more than the adventures and the screen is a DM's little helper par excellant.

Excellent book for Clinical Approach, good for basic facts
This book is divided into 2 parts: Part 1 deals with The Clinical Approach, and Part 2 deals with the Essential Background Information.

The Clinical Approach is the best part and includes 10 chapters (CNS, Eyes, Limbs, Head & Neck, Abdomen, Respiratory system, CVS, Hematology, Diabetes, and Skin). It focuses on the physical examination, and on the symptomatology.

The second part contains a summary of basic clinical facts about the diseases which you can read in any standard textbook. In addition, there're many important subjects which are not covered properly in this section (e.g. dermatology).

This book is not intended to be a complete textbook, and I think it should be supplemented by further reading. The margins of the pages are large so that you can add your additional notes. It contains few diagrams (no photographic pictures) and many tables.

Immunology

Authors: Ivan Roitt MA DSc, Jonathan Brostoff MA DM, and David Male MA PhD

Average review score:

Do not touch this book!
The text is confusing, very baddly structured and hard to read. Because of the many different authors, the text is not concise. The diagrams and tables are often unprecise, leaving you with even more questions instead of answers. The book is a absolutely not the wright choice for learning immunology. For that I recomend Alberts: MBOC (immunology chapters) and Abbas 5th ed., which are much better books.

Roitt's Essential Immunology is better than Immunology by Iv
My college professor raved about Roitt, Brostoff, and Male's "Immunology" (the fifth edition) but as a student I found the book very technical and difficult to understand. I was in the library the other day and picked up "Roitt's Essential Immunology" because I recognized the author (a different book by the same author). "Essential Immunology" is much easier to read and understand than "Immunology". I highly recommend Roitt's Essential Immunology instead of this book.

GOOD BOOK
I READ THIS EDITION IN CHINA PUBLISHED...

DO YOU THINK STUDY IMMUNOLOGY?

GOOD CHOICE THIS BOOK...
