Vengeance for a Hustle...Review Date: 2007-10-10
At the end of Betrayal of a Hustler, Chino is shot and left for dead. But his right hand man, Knees, wasn't haven' it, and Chino was nursed back to health and sent to recuperate in Virginia with his fam. Chino is back to reclaim his true love, Lisa, and his territory.
Since Chino's death, Lisa has tried to move on with her life with husband/doctor Chris and son Jordan. Lisa and Chris' lives are turned upside down when Chino returns and wreaks havoc on both their lives.
In the meantime, Jamaican drug lord Shark has joined forces with assassin Abu and his crew of killers. Shark and daughter Shantel have tried to get on with their lives after Shantel's mother, Shelly, was gunned down by Chino.
A Dead Man's Vengeance is a very suspenseful work of fiction that had me even more intrigued than it's predecessor. I look forward to the release of The Vendetta.

Fast Paced, Gripping, And As Real As It Gets!Review Date: 2008-10-27
The writing is not only amazing for a first-time novelist, it stands up to the writing of many seasoned novelists whose works are found on the best seller lists. The characters are so vivid you can see them clearly in your mind's eye. Hell, even the dog in the story has a personality. The main character, the Major, seemed so real, in so many ways, I couldn't help but wonder if "the Major" wasn't actually based on the author, D.H. Brown, himself.
Several adjectives come immediately to mind when I think back on my reading experience with Honor Due: gritty, haunting, suspenseful, and immensely satisfying are at the top of the list.
If I could give it six stars I would. But it looks like five will have to suffice.

The Ezekiel Code
"Once a special op's warrior always special op's warrior"Review Date: 2008-06-17
The Major takes one look at the guy who entered his local watering hole and the warning bells of survival start to ring. He doesn't ignore these bells because they have served him well his whole adult life and kept him alive in some of the worse battles in Vietnam. Looking at this young man, the Major knows three things. One, someone wants him dead. Two, someone has made the ultimate mistake of bringing him back into the game of warfare. Three, he is going to have to kill this guy.
Finding his longtime friend from Vietnam tortured to death was a low blow and one someone would pay for. The Major is now set on a mission of revenge and he's back in a zone - predator vs. prey. There's a blood debt that must be paid and he won't stop until it is paid in full.
D.H. Brown has written a top-notch novel. The suspense that he has put in this book will keep you turning the pages or tossing and turning through the night if you dare put it down before reaching it's end. In his debut novel he shows the reader that he has mastered the art bringing the reader inside his world. You won't only read Brown's novel - you will feel his characters to your very core.
D.H. Brown has earned a space on my book shelf with this superb tale and I look forward to reading more of his work. This is just the beginning of the Citizen Warrior Series and I wait anxiously for the next. Excellent work and highly recommended! 5-Stars, Reviewed by Michael S. A Pulse-Pounding Thriller!Review Date: 2008-06-04
novel that draws the reader into the Vietnam War, describing what D.H.
Brown had to face, and how he survived the horror. The author penned a
compelling story through the main character as Major, defining his haunting past, history during the Vietnam Era, and the bravery of one
hero who was determined to prove that life was still worth living. The
Major's mission was to find answers, and seek truth as to what happened
when South Vietnam was falling. Through his terrifying journey, he was
determined to seek vengeance for his fallen brother, and family. With
courage, one warrior manages to find healing as romance blooms, and he
is able to see light at the end of the tunnel. In comparison to reading
novels about the military, "Honor Due" stands out with pride in an
excellent performance that was written from the heart of a true warrior.
In many war stories, we only see the cold, bloody, and the angry
perspective of war. In this novel, through the fascinating character of
Major, we don't just see the ugly. The journey through "Honor Due" takes
the reader to the battlefield, then to the sunset where peace, and love
bloom like the flowers. Unlike most military novels, D.H. Brown has a
unique way to invite the reader into the Vietnam Era during traumatic,
uneasy times. The Major pours a fresh, brewed cup of coffee from across
the table as he tells the story of his military nightmare, without
decorating the violence. Most important, the story is told from the
genuine characteristics of the Major's realistic personality. The
protective, sensitive, loving man that he was before becoming the Vietnam
soldier, and his own battle to keep that self-respect. I applaud the author in his first book of "The Citizen Warrior Series." The Major was
appealing, the plot was superb, and the story was interesting from
beginning to end. I recommend "Honor Due" to teens, adults, and all
readers who enjoy thrillers with a blend of romance, and humor. This
novel was as chilling, and dramatic as "the Deer Hunter" with Robert
Deniro. The Major told his story with as much heartfelt emotion as
there was in "Armageddon." The true meaning of the word hero light up
the pages in "Honor Due" on the same scale as viewing "the Patriot"
with Mel Gibson.

In the best interest f the childReview Date: 2008-05-30
I was so pleased to see there is a book that can protect grandchildren! Often we get left behind, with the majority of the messages geared
toward parents going through divorce; it is often a sticky subject,
and even though a parent might come in contact with such a great book,
they do not want to add fuel to the fire by giving it to their grown
children, who are often behaving immaturely. As a grandparent we have more latitude, we have earned the right to state our opinions... It is my
opinion this is the best book on the market regarding this subject!
It is also a great parenting tool in itself with so many valuable pointers. It certainly is a shame all parents, even those happily married,
don't read it!
I for one, will be sending it to all my children , my children's friends,
and everyone I know who is a parent, or is about to become a parent.
Well done! I certainly got my money's worth! Daphne Tai

Love poems from the Heian era.Review Date: 2006-09-03
I am a little bit afraid that the focus on the love poems and the emphasis on Ono no Komachi and Izumi Shikibu as female writers may give the wrong idea about the strength and importance of the poetry. Shikibu is widely considered the greatest poet of her period and Ono no Komachi was one of the Rokkasen-- the six best waka poets of the early Heian period. The reason that I am not giving this volume five stars is because of this packaging and not because of the poetry itself.
These poems are a joy to read aside from any issues of scholarship. They are strong and sad and very affecting. There is actually no stronger recommendation to read this than the poems themselves, so I will close this review with one of the poems by Shikibu:
What is the use
of cherishing life in spring?
Its flowers
only shackle us
to this world.
Beautiful and universalReview Date: 2007-02-12
These women so effectively communicate, in few words, universal feelings of love. While the poems are deceptively simple, they manage to be so beautiful that I am amazed every time I pick it up.
Even more impressive than the writing is how easy it is to relate to the emotions behind it. As I have grown older and experienced so much more of life, I am surprised to find my own feelings mirroring one poem after another. What once seemed pretty words are eerily my own thoughts. It's amazing, considering they were written one thousand years ago!
If you're thinking about buying this, I suggest using the preview to read the few sample pages. If you like what you see, just get it. You won't be disappointed.

Jill 9Review Date: 2007-08-31
Ian Hamlin grew up to be a tough FBI agent, Jill became a meteorologist and Elias a spoiled rich man. Ian and Elias lost their friendship after reaching adulthood to become bitter enemies while Jill put them out of her mind.
That is, except for Ian. Her memory of a boy could still stir her senses as a woman. Because of him, she never found any man she wanted to stay with. Until Elias came back into her life and she thought maybe he could be the 'one'.
But fate played with their lives again. Eight dead women with the same name as Jill, brought Ian back into her life as an investigator intent on protecting her and catching a serial killer. And Jill was back to square one romantically.
Talented J. D. Tynan has a surprise in store for the reader as the story unwinds and the plot thickens. Like a magician, who has you looking at one hand while another pulls a coin from your ear, she points your focus on a possible killer, but lurking in the background is a shadow that moves into the foreground as the story moves along.
Recommended for any fan of suspense or romance. A well told tale with interesting characters who move the plot along. Enjoy. I sure did.

Lyme disease is nothing to sneeze at...Review Date: 2008-08-30
First, we want to know "physical strategies for health Lyme disease." The author describes "finding your healing path in a labyrinth of possibilities" and explains the "seven primary protocols." This is a good starting point for anyone who has Lyme, knows of anyone who has Lyme, or for someone who may get Lyme. Being educated or prepared is essential.
Next, Strasheim explores the "detoxification strategies." Once you start killing off the bacteria with the treatment protocols, they either pile up in your body or you get them out through detoxification. And toxins are everywhere! The author discusses "eliminating stealth toxins from your diet and household." This is extremely important even without a Lyme disease sentence.
Testing and supplements are an important part of Lyme disease and Connie does a good job covering these topics. "Hormone balance" and "adjunct Lyme disease treatments" are two other areas the author wants us aware of - written in easy to read format.
Heavy metals, diet, and an easy to follow exercise plan are available. The author promises that the exercise plan will "get you moving, but won't leave you wiped out." Who doesn't want to benefit from exercise and still have enough energy to take the cap off the probiotics? And for those of you who may have little income, Strasheim discusses "formatting a protocol on a budget." For many Lyme disease victims, among the first things to go is the income. We find we are unable to work eight hours at one time - if we're able to work at all. This budget idea strikes me as unique - maintaining one's health on a shoestring just may be the answer for you. Connie rounds the book out with "habits" and a "little humor."
With Lyme disease, there are often obstacles and challenges. Of course the physical problems associated with Lyme disease can, in themselves, be horrific. But little do we consider the emotional and mental difficulties that may be involved. How do we handle a social obligation when we look fine, but we aren't feeling well? Is there a way to get through the day and still smile? "The Lyme Disease Survival Guide" provides insight and guidance from someone that has experienced the disease firsthand.

A CLEVERLY DESIGNED GPS DEVICEReview Date: 2008-08-18
The Lyme Disease Survival Guide appears at first glance to be a book. But in reality, it is a GPS device cleverly designed by its creator to guide the Lyme Disease victim or caregiver successfully through the murky, bewildering, labyrinthine world of Lyme Disease.
What immediately struck me about Connie Strasheim's valuable contribution to our ongoing battle with Lyme Disease, was her personal dedication and sacrifice of time obviously required to research, accumulate and organize the crème de la crème of the bewildering plethora of Lyme Disease treatments and diagnostic protocols that currently exist.
Even though quite ill herself, Ms. Strasheim somehow managed to struggle through the omnipresent barriers of fatigue and cognitive impairment to pull together in a cogent and didactic format as much useful information as possible to help her fellow Lyme Disease sufferers.
It is sad that someone with her writing and organizational skills, enhanced by her innate ability to inject humor at the most opportune time to get the point across, should be stricken with such a dreadful disease. But if it is God's will that she carry this burden of sickness, I am grateful that He has put it in her heart to use her God given abilities to help the rest of us.
Every Lyme disease sufferer owes Connie Strasheim an enormous debt of gratitude for writing this book. If you yourself have Lyme Disease, are a caregiver or know someone with Lyme Disease, put this book in your cart... you will be glad you did!

Anchors to Many of Life's Learning Experiences!!!Review Date: 2005-07-12
In this story the author does a profound job of talking about relationships. He is very careful from the start to make sure his readers get a vivid picture of his main character Darryl and his relationships with three women; Sherry, Michelle and Tasha.
Darryl's approaches and encounters with his friends, family and relationships are very important in this story because they act as anchors to many learning experiences most readers may identify with. The story centers around Darryl finally learning lessons of life and realizes what becoming a man and dealing with some very heavy social issues is all about.
Being a strong black women myself I enjoyed trying to relate and I strongly recommend this book as a good read to all especially young black men. In my overall opinion if you are objective there are encounters Darryl faces that we all face if we are to be real with ourselves. The last few chapters the story really builds into some riveting moments where all of your emotions come out, and you don't want to stop reading. The writer is true to his objective in presenting this story from a man's prospective and this I found very refreshing since the majority of stories I have read or know about are usually told from a women's point of view. The title is very appropriate to the story.
I applaud the author in challenging his readers to wonder about the twist in his ending. As a writer myself , I was left with several questions regarding a couple of his characters and situations, and wonder if this was done purposely as an opener for a sequel , if so, I can't wait. Again, I strongly recommend this book as a good read to all. And I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

IN DARK THINGS David M. Humphrey, Sr. spins a tale of heaven and hell, of good vs. bad, God vs. Satan. He covers the fall of Lucifer from grace and the birth of all Lucifer's dark demons. He shows us the trials that Guardian Angels have as they try to protect their human charges. The book encourages the reader to listen to that voice that is telling us what to do: it could be God talking to us. It was an interesting story with a Christian message. In some places, it got just a bit preachy which slowed the action down. It was certainly an interesting story on the relationship of God, Satan and human beings.
