This is a great book for jobseekers making a career move in all sectors. Coming from a nonprofit background, I found this book to be incredibly helpful. I felt that using a "for-profit strategy" to improve my nonprofit search gave me a leg up.

The book was a great resource, taking me step-by-step through the process of revamping my resume and improving my interview skills. I saw immediate results in my search and quickly landed a position that I will surely enjoy.

The book was much more helpful than guides I have used. Notably, it was much more helpful that guides I have used that were specifically geared to nonprofits jobseekers.

The author has distilled into this very accessible text a trove of practical advice about how to find and land a good job. "Make the Right Career Move" is like having a career counselor on your bookshelf. It serves both as a handbook about developing a job search strategy and as a reference guide about how to implement the plan. All job applicants would be well-advised to read the chapters on interviews (they are short) before every job interview. It will help them avoid making mistakes that would otherwise take them out of the running.

Solid, reasonable guidance for a career change

This book is a superb guide for making a career change. There are worksheets, guide lists for what to do (and what not to do), and the advice is solid and understandable.
Written in clear language, this book helped me enormously in a recent change. I found it especially helpful, as I am at the executive level, not at the bottom level. It provides web search assistance (where to look; what to look for), specific guidance on resume building, and even a glossary of words that are more direct and action-oriented than what I might have used otherwise.
No book is going to get a job for you; but this one helps you understand that a search well thought out is a search well done.

I was amazed at all the details the author pulled out of the forest -- he truly is an expert in his field and a wonderful observer/teacher.

Given how well he could explain events from a series of linked observations and how well he was able to teach it, I'm wondering if there is a analog in my profession. Given the same level of observation there is probably far more to learn in what we experience everyday.

This book is a great gift for the hiker, nature lover or professional who likes to learn.

After reading this book I will never view the forest the same again. It shows me how to look for clues to the past at every turn. At first I was skeptical then began to see the patterns described in the woods right by our cabin. Even when I drive the clues are there. If you have any relationship to a piece of land this book will make it richer.

I thought I knew the woods. "Reading the Forested Landscape" allows you to see what is in front of you, but not seen. I will never look at a woods in the same way again. Tom Wessels does a masterful job of showing you how to "read" the landscape. The book is a "detective novel" of information. I will read it again and visit the woodlands and do a bit of detective work. Great fun.

Before I read this book, I knew the woods had stories to tell; now, I can begin to understand them. This book is a forensic reference demystifying the clues the forest has to reveal. Each chapter describes, in depth, a particular setting and the clues found there. The drawings, unfortunately, are not as good or helpful as the writing. I would have preferred photographs, but it's only a small drawback.

Having been on his program for 3 months I have normal numbers! I had been told that there was nothing more that they could do. I had 4 heart attacks with bypass surgery and stents put in to save my life. I went from an A1C of 12 down to 7.1 in three months with strick diet and many many supplements but it's working.I had been taking every diabetic pill and insulin known to man to no avail. My heart related tests are normal after being over by hundreds. They gave great advise you have to be in charge of your own health what works and doesn't. I am thankful and highly recommend the book.

Written by two cardiologists.By far the most informative book I've read so far on heart disease. It's an easy read, yet chucked full of information you need & must know. Unfortuneately when we see a doctor or cardiologist they focus solely on the symptom, they have little or no time to devote to prevention nor a cure. You'll be happy to know...as the book states you CAN stop deadly cardiovascular plaque before it's too late.

this was a decent book with a lot of good usuable information. It is a Must Read for anyone over 45 who has a poor diet and is over weight. It is written by medical doctors who are interested in healing the body-not just treating the symtoms. there are also many suppliments that they recommend that are available in most stores (unlike Kevin Trudeau who recommends product not even available in the U.S.)!! It was well worth the money and I strongly recommend it to any one who is concerned about heart disease.

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in Cardiac health.
Although I am a registered nurse and have a genuine interest as I have a heart condition, I think that anyone would find this book helpful.
The explanations are easy to understand and the advice is excellent. I have already been following much of what has been suggested but there were other areas that I didn't know about that were very helpful. My cardiologist advised me to read this as I don't want to use conventional medicine unless absolutely necessary, due to the side effects. I am really please with the results since I have followed this regime and so is my cardiologist. The heart is a muscle whose cells need feeding - if not we have inflamation leading to heart attacks and strokes etc
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in living a healthier life.

I bought this book after the death of my niece in 2002. I had helped raise her and thought of her as my child. "When the Bough Breaks" helped me understand that what I was feeling (or wasn't feeling) was normal, not some singular abyss into which I had tumbled. Oddly enough, since 2002, I have had several opportunities to share this book with friends and friends of friends. I always keep an extra on hand in case it is needed -- and sadly, it is needed all too often. If you need help coping with an unimaginable loss, purchase this book.

A Fantastic Book

Review Date: 2009-01-05
The title says it all. This book starts at the beginning of the universe and ends at the end of World War II. He breaks up time periods, which get increasingly smaller as history gets more elaborate (a thousand year period, a hundred years, twenty years). In each period he starts with the most historically important geographical area at the time, then covers other areas of the world. If I were to give this book any negatives, it would be that he doesn't go into extreme detail in any area. But considering the size of the book (648 pages, not including the index) it's no wonder. He is throrough enough to get a good idea of any time period.
He writes in a very easy, conversational style. If you have ever wanted to learn history but found acadimic writings to be to boring, then this book is for you.

Best history book covering all history. Asimovs best nonfiction work.

Review Date: 2008-12-07
This is without a doubt my favorite history book of all time. Although Asimov wrote this primarily as a reference work it is exceptionally readable it is clear concise and doesn't stray into nonessential minutia. The history of the world is layed out from start (the commonly accepted correct scientific version)to near present day. Asimov not only recognizes almost all of the key people and discoveries in arts and sciences asimov puts his no-nonsense analysis to political and cultural changes as well.
You can read it in small segments by the nightstand, or you can read it cover to cover chapter by chapter and still benefit from it. As a desk reference it is invaluable.
The thing this book did for me that no other history work really achieved was that it gave me a clear understanding of how all of history connects on a timeline and how the whole picture of world history fits together with a perspective that is impossible for me to convey in this review. This is near the top of in my top 20 favorite books.
As far as I'm concerned Asimovs work as a historian rivals his enormous achievents in science fiction, literature and science. I have read this book at least 10 times now and will reread it many more times before I'm history/.

Don't expect to learn history from this book

Isaac Asimov is one of my favorite writers and I particularly enjoy reading his non-fiction work - Life And Energy is one of my all-time favorites. Chronology Of The World is a good reference book and provides brief overviews of the dominant cultures throughout history.

The reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is that many of the histories he provides do not have the life that Asimov is usually able to impart to a subject. This may be do to the fact that Asimov is limited to how much he can write on any one time period/culture (the book is already huge). It is more of a reference book than a book that imparts understanding, but Asimov's true gift was his ability to provide understanding of a subject. So I would rather of had book that covered the major periods of history with a bit more depth at the expense of removing some of the lesser periods.

While Asimov is most known for his science fiction classics, he was a prolific writer who wrote hundreds of books, most of them non-fiction. In this volume he presents earth history in slices of time across the whole world, not just in one region (e.g. western civilization or american history.) When you read about events happening in the middle east, for example you also read that there were events in China and Peru, showing mankind's growth an development occurred in many places and by many people. Highly recommended.

This was the 4th copy of the book that I have bought. I gave the other three away as gifts. An excellent read, and can be put down and picked up again without losing anything. I finally learned why the Armenians hate the Turks, the genesis of the Spanish Civil War, how long Rome was a republic, and so much more that I was curious about but never took the time to research. It filled in many of the holes in my knowledge of history, and also provided a time line for events. I teach, and am continually astounded by students' lack of knowledge of context in studying history. Should be required reading for all high School students.

Asterix and Gaul is apparently the first in the series, written in the 60s. An absolutely fantastic start, i have to say.

A Roman Centurion, Phonus Bolonus, plots to get a swig of the magic potion and holds Getafix captive in the Roman camp outside the village to have him make some. Asterix joins the druid there and together they take the greedy Roman on a hairy ride.

Thanks to the magic potion of the resident druid, Getafix, Asterix and Obelix triumphantly defend the borders of their village against Caesar's legions, to the legions' great dismay ("I hate those Gauls"). My personal favorite is "Asterix and Cleopatra" where they travel to Egypt to help Getafix's buddy Edifis win an architectural contest between Ceasar and Cleopatra. Oh, and the Sphinx's nose? Obelix did that.

In this graphic novel series there is great storytelling, superb drawing, awful puns, wonderful sound effects (yes, really), and sneakily, insidiously, while you're laughing, you're learning.

Asterix lives in the Gaulish part of the Roman Empire. Doesn't he? Not quite, his village resists the Romans thanks to a magic potion. The Romans want some of this potion for themselves...

"Asterix the Gaul" was the first Asterix comic, published in 1961. Rene Goscinny made the words and Albert Udzero did the pictures. It's a pretty good way to start the series though the sequel "Asterix and the Golden Sickle" (1962) sets up the vibe the other comics enjoy.

This is a great book on Wireless. Tons of detail on RF properties, troubleshooting and things to look for. Aside from being a decent study guide for the exam this book will serve as a handy reference in day to day work as well as research activities.

Well organize but still need more detail

The book very well organize and easy to follow, however it needs more detail in order to pass the exam.

After taking a class given by David Westcott I decided to buy his book. I am so glad I did. I went from working in the wireless field for three years and not being certified to reading his book and two months later becoming a CWNA. This book is just very easy to understand. They use alot of analogies to help you get the point of what they are trying to teach. If you have ever read a Cisco press book you will really appreciate the two David's writing style.

After I purchased this book a co-worker purchased "the other" CWNA book and the rest of my fellow co-workers compared the two and after all the scrutiny they all purchased this one.

If you have ever wanted to become a CWNA or just learn more about wireless technologies this book is definitely for you.
