This book IS awsome!!!!!!It's the best!!Jaime's books are ALL you need to have a horse,So go out and buy it!!!!!

A New Concept in Hoof Care
This book on natural hoof care for your horse is a revelation to all of us who have blindly followed the tradition of shoeing our horses. Being a relatively new horse owner (two years) I had no idea letting my horse go shoeless could be possible. He's one of these sensitive types that can barely walk due to excessive sensitivity when his shoes are removed. Mr. Jackson says this is not natural but has been created by the use of shoes on the horse. This has caused the soles of his hoof to be sensitive and the walls of his hooves to be too thin. This can all be corrected by removing the horses shoes and trimming them properly, something Mr. Jackson describes in his book as power trimming. The goal is to eventually have the horses hooves resemble that of wild horses which Mr. Jackson has studied extensively. He describes in this book how to accomplish this, with lots of pictures and background information. He has chapters on what a natural hoof looks like and what an un-natural (shoed) one looks like, as well as chapters on tools required, how to handle difficult horses, how natural hoof care can conquer problems like laminitis, navicular, hoof contraction, sole abscesses, white line disease and others. There's also a good appendix in the back on where to get addtional info on learning more about this exciting process. I'm really excited about the possibilities for my horse, I'd love him to be in a more natural state and not have to rely on shoes for the rest of his life and with Mr. Jacksons guidance, I think it might be possible. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a more natural alternative to shoeing. Happy trails! Buff C. Barr

Important news for horseowners
Jaime Jacksons study of feral horses led him to the knowledge contained in his first book, The Natural Horse. In his latest work he guides horseowners through a very difficult transition. There exists a deeply ingrained tradition and blind acceptance of the ancient practice of shoeing horses. Unfortunately shoeing horses is not good for them. Jaime explains why shoeing is detrimental. In a very clear and concise way Jaime walks horseowners through the education and practical processes of deshoeing. Every horseowner owes it to themselves and their horses to at least read this book.

Human Trials: Scientists, Investors, and Patients in the Quest for a Cure

Human Trials tells the life story of an unusually dedicated contemporary scientist who strove to revolutionize his field with his innovative ideas, and whose story is far from over.

Susan Quinn, biographer of Marie Curie and Karen Horney, focuses here on Dr. Howard Weiner and his belief in oral tolerance--"the long-held observation of systemic hyporesponsiveness to an antigen fed prior to immunization." He believes that compounds based on oral tolerance can be used to successfully treat autoimmune diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis. His attempts to prove this belief and bring such a compound to market are told as representative of what all scientists, investors, and patients involved in drug discovery must endure. This approach yields interesting observations regarding clinical trials in general. Most notable among them is that the trials are designed to treat large populations in the future rather than the individuals enrolled in them today.

Human Trials is a heartbreaking book. All the characters--the researchers in Dr. Weiner's laboratory, the executives in his fledgling biotech company, and especially the patients he treats--are sympathetic, and there are no happy endings for any of them. But Dr. Weiner still believes in his idea and is still toiling to prove it. Let's hope that one day we will read about how he fulfilled his life's ambition and cured MS. --Diana M. Gitig

Blends science with medical insights
Susan Quinn's Human Trails blends science with medical insights as it draws unusual and important connections between scientists, investors in scientific and medical research, and how drug trials are financed and conducted. Hers is written from lead investigator diaries and closed-door meetings with investors, offering more than an outside look at the facts.

A Thrilling Journey into the War Against Disease
I knew Susan Quinn's HUMAN TRIALS would be an engaging, informative inquiry into the intricate process of bringing a new drug therapy to market. What I didn't expect was that the book would read like the best of thrillers -- it takes the reader on the suspenseful and sometimes heart-wrenching journey into the very heart of the war against disease. HUMAN TRIALS is ultimately about the people who populate the closed society that chronic, degenerative illness creates (in this case, MS and rheumatoid arthritis): the patients and their families who suffer and hope, and the doctors, scientists, and investors who, from motives that mix intellectual egotism, financial gain, and selfless dedication, bring their best weapons of mind and spirit to the battle. Quinn does an admirable job describing and demystifying the strategy involved in one novel approach to conquering, or at least containing, MS and RA; the reader learns in compelling detail just what it takes to develop an untested theory into a viable, marketable protocol. However, HUMAN TRIALS goes beyond scientific process to tell a story of risk and courage on both sides of the line. On this particular journey, failure is simply a subset of perseverance, knowledge arrives in unexpected ways, and victory is really a matter of the heart more than the body.

Facinating look into clinical trials
This book grabbed me from the start since I also have one of those incurable, untreatable autoimmune diseases that rarely threaten your life, but certainly ruin it. Scleroderma patients had a recent, similar roller-coaster ride with what was thought to be a promising therapy. I could easily relate to everyone involved - patients, treating doctors, researchers, and investors. Ms Quinn took very complex material about MS and the research surrounding it and made it understandable, while telling an exciting and emotionally engaging story. Though it doesn't help me to cope day-to-day with my disease, it does make me understand the processes and people involved in the search for a treatment.

A first-rate consultation book
Learning Disabilities: There Is A Cure by educator Addie Cusimano (a specialist in the field of reading) is an instructional guide specifically written for parents, educators, and physicians concerning practiced and proven techniques to overcoming the extra challenges of dyslexia and other learning disorders that affect students across America. A first-rate consultation book drawn from an extensive field of practical experience and offering time-proven methods that work, Learning Disabilities is very highly recommended reading for anyone charged with the responsibility of educating a child with a learning barrier.

The best book on this topic I've read
The title of my review really says it all. This book gives hope and guidance. It is written by a real expert but she doesn't use a bunch of technical words. The book is a joy to read because of how she presents it and because of the information in it. You will find things you can do right now to help your child. You don't need to go out and buy expensive special programs. Just read her book!

A book all parents should read
I am a parent of a 9 year old child (3rd grader) who has had trouble in school since kindergarten. We have struggled to understand why such a bright child was having so much difficulty in school. This book helped us understand that the problem was that she was deficient in specific learning skills that could be developed with proper instruction. We didn't even realize these skills were involved in learning. It also offered suggestions as to what we could do, as parents, to help her develop these skills. It has given us the information we need to knowledgably discuss our concerns with her teachers.

At last, a book on homeopathy even I can understand!
This book is a belated find for me, but "better late than never" is an understatement! The author, Vinton McCabe, speaks in such a way and graciously shares his personal experiences so as to put the reader at ease with a subject that has been surrounded by misinformation and misunderstanding. I truly related to Mr McCabe's 1950s childhood (asthma and allergies) and his pursuit into adulthood for the 'cure' by traditional medicine, and his discovery that the whole person must be treated.

The meat of the book of course, is the wealth of information presented in clear, comprehensible text - that is ENJOYABLE to read! I have recommended "Let Like Cure Like" to family, friends, coworkers, and I highly recommend it to anyone even slightly interested in homeopathy or 'alternative' approaches to wellness. Be Well!

One of the best books on homeopathy
This book is truly a gem and the author, Vinton McCabe, is a real genius.

I am 31 years old and I have been treated with homeopathy since my birth. During my lifetime, I have seen many, many different homeopaths (in Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and lately in the States).

I have read also a great deal on homeopathy. For me, this book presents the best description of the essence, the spirit of major homeopathic remedies. I have learnt so much from these descriptions, for myself, my wife and children.

Homeopathy can really cure you at your deepest level. This is not for a superficial, quick fix. Homeopathy is really beautiful. It is life. It is sad that it is today so misunderstood and so rarely practiced. However, if you truly want to heal at every level, homeopathy will do so. It just requires patience, understanding and courage.

You will not regret buying this book.

excellent reading material, most informative
I first found the book at the library. I, personally have learn a great deal from this book. The information is very understandable. I just purchased this book and look forward to receiving more books by Vinton McCabe.

The Primal Scream: Primal Therapy: The Cure for Neurosis

Author: Arthur Janov

Used price: $1.03

the dream must end
you have found the Book. So now you must read it. If you're interested in Life. Human life. Primal theory isn't magic, except insofar as the laws of physics are magic. A sign of Primal theory's truth-value-usefulness is the intensity-depth of the insights resultant from its practice, or contemplation. Janov simply gets deeper into it than most. Deeper into everything. This isn't to say I believe what he believes. I happen to think Darwinism is totally wacky. How arrogant is it to think you know the origins of mind?

As youngsters, we have innate mental and biological needs. The need to be loved. The need for our mother not to drink alc while pregnant. And yes, love is not extra, something needed only by wimps. Love is the substance without which a child becomes neurotic, or split from his real needs, embracing symbolic needs, like the need for power, the need for too much food, the need to perform perverse sexual acts. Without love, Primal Pain is created, which may be too strong to be fully felt by a child, who represses this Pain and its meaning. Repressed truth doesn't disappear, it returns to exert physiologic pressure that haunts us, gives us allergies, headaches, addictions, disease. The only escape from Pain is to feel it, to become conscious, to wake up to our sickness, and become our real selves, become ex-neurotic.

I tend to believe that reading ThePrimalScream is almost as good as getting the therapy. But what do I know--I've been without a partner for a decade. Brains are computers, and computers do wierd things sometimes.

How your past affects your life and how to heal.
This book is a great book. It is everything that you might think it is. Tackling - how people deal with pain, What is Pain (to human organisms), and how to heal from Pain. While at first it may seem like a mystical trance-like therapy, its not. The first 50 pages (or so) deal with the theory behind Primal Therapy. It defines primal Pain, and discusses how it affects our life, day to day. This part is somewhat unsupported. Dr. Janov leaves the evidence to support his theory for the rest of the book. With patient journals and case histories, the rest of the book tackles topics including sexuality, fear, hope, and anger. It is the rest of the book, through the patient journals and case histories, that make the book real. (and easy to read).

A work of genius in the field of psychology
An incredible breakthrough in treatment and prevention of neurosis. One of the most important books of the twentieth century. We must never forget it.

Wonderful Book!
Excellent material-thorough and comprehensible. Easy to locate specific items. Helps a person decide what to do. Otherwise he does nothing.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate this book numero uno.
Even though I have been on excellent health throughout life, I developed symptoms of enlarged prostate. After a physical exam, my doctor indicated that I have (BPH) Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. So, I started to get educated about this gland. I have read a large number of books about the prostate. However, this book illustrates and explains in excellent detail's about the function, the treatment, what to do and how to do it. This book is a God send, I recomend it to every man who is 40 years old or over.

Fantastic Book
I just received your book, had a hard time putting it down. I found so many answers to my questions that my Dr. was unable to answer my satisfaction. I now have a much better knowlege of what to ask my Dr. the next time I see him. Thank you for the fantastic book, I shall keep it handy at all times.

One of the best books on natural health available today.
As a naturopathic physician, I have a rather extensive library of natural health books. The author's insight into disease, and prevention of disease is particularly insightful. Anyone who suffers from a chronic condition should read this book. Many chronic conditions are covered; but even if your's are not, the information presented is still valuable in the pursuit of overall health. It is truly a gem.

Tells it like it is.. brilliant work
I always liked Joel Wallach's approach to health. He tells it like it is. I like how he disses the doctors who poo-poo nutritional supplementation.

In this book, Wallach lays out all kinds of newspaper clippings from various newspaper articles about doctors and famous people who died at young ages. Those clippings are appropriately placed in the section where the major mineral deficiency was the cause of death, such as chromium for a diabetic coma, etc.

This book is a wonderful source of information on minerals, and their functions. It also lays out all kinds of info on deficiency diseases, and how minerals can help certain ailments.

This section also covers a bunch of different alternative approaches to wellness, such as Ayurvedic medicine, the Dean Ornish Diet, and many others. The information is in depth, and covers a good amount of material for a book focused on mineral supplementation.

This book pretty much has it all, and is a great read if you wish to gain knowledge on the role of minerals in our health and well being.

Rare Earths - rare gem of a read
I really liked this book. Lots of great info about how basic minerals effect your body and keep you healthy or make you sick. It gave me lots of new ideas.

It's more than a little gory at times. I guess doing 18,000 autopsies, gave the author sort of a callous view of life. The descriptions of what the Inca and Jack the Ripper did to their captives is not for the weak at heart. Hint: a deficiency of minerals causes strange cravings.

One new idea I really liked was the documentation of zinc deficiency in mothers that become pregnant as a cause of Down's syndrome. Apparently one can demonstrate this in the lab with monkeys or simians. Healthy babies then introduce a zinc deficiency in the diet and get Downs syndrome, then add the zinc back and get normal babies again. Wow!

A second idea: adding rare earths to the diet of mice and other animals extends life span by 2X! Wow, again! Excellent bibliography, but I was unable to locate this one paper on feeding rare earths to get 2X life span.

Excellent basic book.

I highly recomend.

Scott Straus is PHENOMENAL
Let us say one thing...Scott Straus is a brilliant man. How do we know this? Scott Straus is our Professor and although we haven't read the book we have complete faith that his brilliance radiates from the work. Once we finish the monstrous amount of reading he assigned in his class we will be sure to read this book and we have no doubt we will enjoy it...and you will too.

An Enlightening Outlook
Scott Strauss and David K. Leonard marvelously delinate the African quagmire with a sense of optomism and honesty. The book boldy breaks down a myriad of preconcieved misconceptions and offers a scholarly aproach that shows the potential for a rebirth of the African continent. Many thanks to these brilliant men.

This is not only a book about Africian American Women's Health, but it is also an excellent guide to good health in general. An excellent, specific source guide
The African American Woman's Health Book provides an excellent guide to the prevention and cure of illness, examining the factors which predispose black women to hypertension and including chapters on sickle cell anemia and other conditions which especially affect Afro-American women. Pick an ailment--any ailment--and chances are, Bill Gottlieb can succinctly crystallize the problem, propose its root cause, and describe a handful of nonmedical remedies for treatment. Creator and supervising editor of the bestselling Doctors Book of Home Remedies, this 25-year veteran of the health field draws from more than 300 alternative care practitioners (including holistic nutritionists, licensed acupuncturists, massage therapists, and the occasional swami) to present a thick textbook worthy of gracing the reference shelf of any family or health provider. Serious physical ailments like asthma, HIV and AIDS, stroke, and cancer receive equal attention with pesky afflictions like oily hair, acne, nightmares, and wrinkles. Mental health ailments, such as guilt, anxiety, grief, and shyness, also get their due. Gottlieb's stance is not that individuals should shun their primary care physicians to rely solely on herbs, better nutrition, and other alternative paths. Rather, he seeks to educate readers on the biological effects of such practices and tinctures, to share their documented benefits in helpful detail. Each ailment receives a sidebar titled "Guide to Professional Care," in which Gottlieb outlines symptoms that warrant immediate medical attention. Other sidebars highlight especially helpful treatment--from aromatherapy to meditation--for various troubles. Gottlieb provides an section on alternative healing where he elaborates on the process, benefits, and safety of each general treatment referred to in the book (from acupuncture to yoga therapy). Complete information, an engaging writing style, and visually appealing graphics make this encyclopedia-style book very easy to digest. --Liane Thomas
