Unfortunately, the patient diedSocial satire? Sure. Interesting sci-fi vignettes? Absolutely. Incisive glances at the sounds, styles, and feel of a parallel world subjectively based on a late-1960s London? You bet. But be warned that if you're looking for more than the faintest shred of plot to capture your interest, look elsewhere in the Eternal Champion multiverse. Perhaps ACFC is Moorcock's idea of what happens to a novel dipped in the primordial Chaos described in his other works.
I can appreciate what Moorcock is trying to get across. I even get a kick out of the *idea* of the novel's structure, in theory, anyway. However, it's difficult to actually enjoy a work in which a) every stitch of dialogue is so vague that, if you had no grasp of Moorcock's other works, the book would seem a nearly interminable string of highly stylish non sequiturs, and b) characters that live and (suddenly) die so guided by random chance and urges from the id that the joke pales early on. The chapter headlines culled from sensational tabloids did give me a chuckle, though.
It's certainly possible that you may find great enjoyment and provocative thoughts aplenty in ACFC. You certainly will in other Moorcock novels. And if you're looking for the pinnacle of social satire in an "unconventional" novel, check out the far superior "Catch-22" by Joe Heller. But unless you're the type who relishes flipping through TV channels for hours on end in an altered state of consciousness, or tends to convince yourself after reading a work such as ACFC that your time was well spent and the emperor is indeed wearing clothes, don't waste your time. This patient is terminal.
...BURN OUT THE CANCER BURN OUT THE CANCER BURN OUT THE C...This book, though often humourous, has a far more serious tone than its predecessor, and some very harsh satire. Targets include the irrelevence of the popular press and corruption within the Catholic Church.
The title refers to both a literal cure (as described in the section headings), and more importantly, to "Social Cancer" which is cured by Ethnic Cleansing. The image of hoardes of NATO helicopters napalming London, screaming "BURN OUT THE CANCER" will stay with you a long time.
This book is well worth reading.

Every age is covered, starting with the prevention of eczema in toddlers while mom is still pregnant to delaying or preventing Alzheimer's through proper diet and a daily anti-inflammatory. Life-threatening diseases like colon and breast cancer, stroke, and heart disease are discussed, as well as relatively minor concerns like bad breath and UTIs. Even with the variety of issues discussed, it's never overwhelming--the longest section is less than 30 pages, and most are covered in just a few. Each entry includes sections on "What's New" and "The Bottom Line," which are quick but helpful summaries that recommend a direct action--or in some cases, a lack of direct action.
Best of all, Rosenfeld keeps his wry sense of humor throughout, joking about his brother John always calling the men's room "Isadore" in the section on enlarged prostates, and recalling the old Packard slogan "Just ask the man (or woman) who owns one!" when discussing herpes sores. With an excellent blend of the latest research, common sense, old remedies, and humor, Rosenfeld provides a book with answers for everyone. --Jill Lightner

terrific self help guideThis reviewer did not read the entire book as many of the 167 subjects have no interest to me or my family. Instead I selected specific items of personal concern either amidst myself, my spouse, son, or parental sibling history that I also know enough about to be dangerous. The write ups on high blood pressure, weight loss, high cholesterol, Alzheimer's, stroke, and heart conditions, etc. were enlightening and, most important, it is easy to understand what Dr. Rosenfeld is saying. Some of the information is surprising like a comparative analysis of two high risk groups using Dr. Atkins' diet vs. an American heart Association diet, though the long term effect remains unknown but the author adds his spin of be smart and use the best from both or the benefits of almonds. This is a terrific self help guide that already contains rabbit ears and situated on the front of my keeper shelf at least until perhaps Dr. Rosenfeld provides the 2005 update.

4 1/4 starsI thought this was a very enjoyable medical thriller. It reads similar to a Robin Cook novel. The backbone of the novel is about herbal supplements. Good or Bad? You decide. Though an average medical thriller, it will educate you at the same time it entertains you. Both emotional and suspenseful, it will definitely keep you intrigued.
Recommended for the lover of medical thrillers.
Scary Medical Thriller, Real Scary, BrrrrrUnlike drugs, herbal supplements are not subject to FDA approval, unless they can be proven dangerous, and a lot of women Steve knows, including his teenage daughter, are taking Restore Tabs without any trouble.
Then women on the pill start hemorrhaging and Steve starts looking more closely into the ingredients. After several brushes with death he learns the primary ingredient of the pill is taken from illegally minded coral from off the coast of Indonesia, and that poor native women are dying after taking large doses of Restore Tabs.
This was a good read that kept me up all night. Five stars from me.

This book does not cover most important aspects
A classic!
Splendid, simple to use, logical Feng Shui guide that works!
This sorry excuse for an informative bio about the music group, The Cure, contains so many borrowings from other sources that the "author" would have done Cure fans more of a service if she had just listed all of them and been done with it.
Even worse, the book is so full of misinformation, I find it very difficult to believe Greene paid much attention to anything she ever read or saw about The Cure or its mastermind, Robert Smith.
I was hoping for much better, since most of the other published works about The Cure that I have read were at least acceptable. Even the collaboration she undertook with Dave Thompson for "The Cure: A Visual Documentary" was better than Greene's solitary attempt, though it is far from stellar. It seems that it takes the both of them to produce anything even remotely worthwhile. Neither can do it alone; Thompson's "The Making of the Cure's Disintegration" is cute in its false jewel case, but again, a bibliography listing would have sufficed instead of the constant rehash of information any real Cure fan who has the ultimate book "Ten Imaginary Years" already knows.
Ultimately, this book is a must-have ONLY if hearing or seeing the words "The Cure" or "Robert Smith" cause you to whip out your credit card and complete the transaction before your senses kick in.
I, however, have a valid excuse for owning this book... I didn't have a review to base my decision on, but now you do ...so, you don't.
