very sweet
Tulku Urgyen was a fine example of a true yogi.
His devotion to his teachers shines through in these pages, and there's more to be learned here than just the verbal info.
I highly recomend keeping this book around.

Just Like Zen
While the author teaches in the Dzogchen tradition as he clearly explains in this book, for this reader I can see no difference between it and Zen. "Direct pointing" to that which we call mind is the essence of this book, a real "how-to-do-it" explanation. I have studied Buddhism, and Zen in particular, for over 20 years and this is one of the most helpful texts I have ever come across. I would recommend it to any serious student of Buddhism.

Too often people think that the only way to practice Buddhism is to sit and quiet or empty the mind. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche effectively rebuts that view. Since this book was published there have been two additional volumes, both of which are excellect (5 stars). They are titled "As It Is," volumes 1 and 2.

Carefree liberation
Combine Rainbow Painting with the author's son, Tsoknyi Rinpoche's book "Carefree Dignity"... it is clear how simple it really can be to live our daily lives, all day--all night, as a spiritual path. Simple and straight foward, recognize your own nature. A very special teacher. Highly recommended!

Great book, well-written and very helpful.
This is a great book, and considering how any job doing 3d automatically requires a demo reel, it is a crucial book for anyone trying to make a career of this. It is very well written and encouraging, the author is clearly a teacher and not just a guy passing along information. The book follows the author's project while guiding you along with suggestions for your own work.
There is detailed coverage of every step of the CG filmaking process. It begins with the all of the skills required for traditional animation: scriptwriting, storyboarding and sound recording. The sections detailing construction, rigging and animation of facial expressions and speech were particularily impressive and useful to me. But really there's a lot of thought put into every section and the depth of information here is staggering. It very cool to see how a quality project like this gets put together, step by step.

The best book by far......
Creating 3D animation is an extremely complicated proposition and Barrett Fox's take on CG filmmaking is the best book by far on this complicated process. "3DS MAX6 Animation-CG Filmaking from Concept to Completion" not only covers the basic step by step process of producing your CG film it also delves into the finer points of how to make your production more successful on an artistic level. This is the best presentation of how to marry the technical and creative sides of your project into a final polished film that I have yet come across. And believe me I have read most of them!

Another thing that's sets this book apart is that it goes through the creation of a particular project rather than a grab bag of unrelated scenes that comprise the examples in most CG how-to books. This really clarifies the work flow needed to produce your project in a logical and expedient way. Add to this the 3dmax, image, and animation files that are included on the enclosed CD-ROM and you have a comprehensive window into the CG filmmaking process that is worthwhile to digital artists from beginning to advanced. This is a great book and well worth the price.

tips from an expert
I have been animating for 5 years now and I am pleased to note that the author revealed quite a few new tricks. This is a must read for all animators. Written with humor and expertise!

Excellent book on the Canadian department of Justice
Professor Swainger has written an excellent book on the creation of the Canadian department of Justice.

"The federal Department of Justice was established by John A. Macdonald as part of the Conservative party's program for reform of the parliamentary system following Confederation. Among other things, it was charged with establishing national institutions such as the Supreme Court and the North West Mounted Police and with centralizing the penitentiary system. In the process, the department took on a position of primary importance in post-Confederation politics. This was particulary so up to 1878, when Confederation was 'completed'".

Self-Completion: Keys to the Meaningful Life
Published in Paperback by Gateways Books & Tapes (August, 1991)

Used price: $29.50

A Wonderful Tour de Force
Not only for so-called Gurdjieff-Work people, but for anybody honestly "trying" to work on themselves. This book is what Gurdjieff would call "Castor Oil" to our Egos, if we make the effort to really read it. The "Mastergame" was quite nice, and
probably a revelation it its days, but "Self-Completion" is a Masterpiece, quite rare in this time of narrowness. De Ropp is stirring muddy waters and shows, how to bring clarity into the mud. A very rare kind of book. Very very valuable!!!

Self-Completion: Keys to the Meaningful LIfe
In 70's I had the book Master Game by the same author. I found it again in the 90`s. This book by the same author (DeRopp) is the essence of his thinking & teaching in older age. It covers Gurdjieff, Ouspensky, Sufi teachins,Zen sittings in a very easy to understand way. It also gives a clear explanation of what went wrong with the development of the modern Man. There are hundreds of books for the "seekers". If you are serious about the "WORK" and Fourth Way, do yourself a favor: Read this book a couple of times.

Concise and Complete
If you are about to start work on a disertation and intend to buy just one book on how to manage it, this would be a very good choice. However do read more than one!

A comprehensive guide to the dissertation!
As someone who works privately with students, helping them with dissertations and theses, I highly recommend this book. When students call me in regard to assistance with their dissertation or thesis, I recommend that they buy this book and use it as an ongoing reference. As the title states, the information contained in this book anticipates and answers many of the questions that students have about the dissertation process, from proposal to completion. It is the most comprehensive guideline that I have come across in recent years.

Christian Revelation and the Completion of the Aristotelian Revolution

A Brilliant, Abstruse Book
This is an absolutely brilliant work, with one caveat: it is probably too complex for most readers. Without a strong background in classical literature, philisophy, and perhaps all of the humane arts, the reader might be lost. However, Madigan is writing for a scholarly audience, and he does so with the utmost skill. This work is thoroughly researched, elegantly written, and analytically breathtaking. The Latin pun on the inside cover reveals an impish humor that lies beneath the surface of this book.

Merleau-Ponty's Last Vision : A Proposal for the Completion of "The Visible and the Invisible"

Don't wait for the movie!
This is one of those projects that should almost never be attempted - one thinks of the sequel for Gone with the Wind for a crass example, and yet Doug Low will surprise you. Not speculation or conjecture, but a thoughtful, well developed thesis based on a wide body of relevant writings, research and analysis. If Merleau-Ponty is in your pantheon of great 20th century philosophers, this is essential reading.

The Death of the Prophet: The Powerful Completion of Kahlil Gibran's Immortal Trilogy

Seems to capture Gibran...
This book is not like the "topic" chapters of THE PROPHET, but the language reads like Gibran's. Here, the prophet returns and is not greeted with open arms by the local priests. His message of love and finding god within earns the prophet only a hail of stones. This is a gutsy and dramatic story...no "wine and thou" to read at weddings.

Excellent Conclusion to The Prophet's story
Very gutsy and straight forward, this book is written in Gibran's manner, but without any boundaries or caution. I absolutely loved it. There were so many truths contained in it that Gibran knew in his heart, but didn't get the chance to record on paper. A must read for everyone, even if you never read "The Prophet"!
