Super Cool!
THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!MARYANNE IS THIS REALLY SHY GIRL AND LOGAN IS THIS REALLY CUTE GUY!THEY'RE PERFECT!OFCOURSE THERE WERE SOME FUNNY AND AKWARD MOMENTS BUT IT'S AWESOME!

The Best BSC Book Ever!
This is by far one of my favorite books ever! I will always cherish the wonderful memories created by reading this with one of my friends. From her mousey brown hair to her famous cities skirt, Maryanne is a true frump, and one never to be forgotten. And of course, who could forget such wonderful quotes as: "Claudia almost said BRA STRAP in front of a BOY!" And what about shopping where Kristy wanted to go to the sports wear department in preparation for the upcomming dance. And my personal favorite, Alan Gray's "Little Orphan Annie eyes" staring blankly at Maryanne. Cherish this book as much as i have.

Love Triumphs
Flynt Carson and his three golfing buddies find an abandoned baby on the golf course one Sunday morning. While the other three admit that they could be the father of the child, Flynt is convinced that the baby is his and Josie's. Flynt confronts Josie and tries to get her to admit that the baby is theirs. Josie is still madly in love with Flynt and knows she could trap him by lying and telling him that the baby is theirs but she is to honest. Josie wants to win Flynt back honestly so while he is waiting on the results of the paternity test that will prove he's the father, Josie agrees to be the baby's nanny. Josie's honesty is refreshing and the sparks that fly between Josie and Flynt are hot.

Josie & Flynt Together
Great book! It's the first of a 12 book series-LONE STAR COUNTRY CLUB and Ms Rimmer sets the stage for the characters and their stories as only she can. We are introduced to 4 bachelors who find a baby girl on the 9th hole of the exclusive golf course. She has a note attached to her blanket-it says "this is your daughter, Lena" but doesn't tell whom she belongs to. Well, all 4 know it is possible that she belongs to him. Flint Carson takes charge thinking he and Josie Lavender are the parents. He hires Josie to be the nanny but Josie has her own agenda she wants Flynt Carson forever. Flynt and Josie have a rocky romance-Flynt thinks himself not worthy of a wife and children but Josie gets him to come around and realize she is the love of his life. I'm ready to read the other 11 now.

Princess Victoria is coming in!
When some British diplomats (a little odd for a story, I must say) come to live in Stoneybrook, Mary Anne is hired as a companion. This is far-fetched but highly entertaining. Look for Princes Victoria in more books, like the European Super Special, when the BSC goes to London and visit her. Victoria is one of the most interesting child characters yet in the BSC books.

Great Thanksgiving story!
Timid, sensitive Mary Anne is baby-sitting an actual PRINCESS-a little girl who is used to being waited on hand and foot, complains endlessly about her "frightfully old" nanny, and is to put it mildly, blunt. Mary Anne does an admirable job with her and cracks her "royal" shell. I admired how patient Mary Anne was with her. While the other kids were quick to dismiss Victoria as a spoiled snob, perceptive Mary Anne saw a lonely, insecure girl who needed a lot of love. I also loved how the author interwove a subplot of Mary Anne's growing closeness with her stepmother Sharon, who misses Dawn. What a kind heart Mary Anne has to arrange that Thanksgiving surprise for Sharon. I like how close Sharon and Mary Anne have become. Mary Anne desperately needed a mother and I'm glad she has somebody as wonderful as Sharon. I wish I had a daughter or baby-sitter like Mary Anne!!!!

Megan in Ancient Greece
Megan Ryder is a 12-year-old girl who lives with her mother . Megan has a friend named Ellie. Ellie has an attic with an old steamer trunk and every trip she takes the trunk has more clothes. This time when Megan slipped on a tunic and looked in the mirror she traveled into Ancient Greece. That night in Greece someone steals a very precious thing from the temple. Will Megan be able to find what was stolen? Will she be able to find who steals it?You'll be able to find all these answers in this book full of adveture.Over-all I think this book was exciting and shoud be suitable for any age to read.

Megan in Ancient Greece
When Megan finds herself in ancient Greece, she almost immediately gets herself in trouble because she is bothered by the submissive role women there are expected to play. But by being her usual adventureous self, she manages to save the day (as usual) and win the respect of her (in Ancient Greece) male cousin. Another fun book!

Memoir Club, by Laura Kalpakian
I really enjoyed Laura Kalpakian's latest book. This latest novel is written in such a way that each chapter could be self contained but since the author has the uncanny ability to make you really interested in the heroine(s), I eagerly await the next chapter which carries on each heroine's separate story line. She has several heroines, each with their own story. It is my hope to see some of the heroines in either future books or short stories published in magazines. I think Laura Kalpakian is one of the most insightful feminist writerers writing today and a must read for women of all age groups.

"Misty Watercolor Memories"
This book was my first introduction to Kalpakian and I purchased it for two reasons...I was drawn to the beautiful cover and I was enticed by the premise of six women taking a college extension course in memoir writing and, consequently, forming friendships beyond the classroom. I had thoughts of two of my other favorite female "bonding" books -- The Saving Graces by Patricia Gaffney and Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons by Lorna Landvik.

I think this book started off much slower than the two books I've already mentioned but once it got going, I simply could not put it down. I actually stayed up reading until 2:30AM because I couldn't go to sleep without knowing how it would end. It's much deeper than others I've read with similar premises yet Kalpakian doesn't dwell on the gloom and doom of some of their pasts. She instead celebrates their futures.

You definitely don't fall in love with these characters even though they're well drawn out by the author. Perhaps they're too real -- like anyone else you might meet in your daily life. There seems to be more meat in their stories (their memoirs) giving the author the ability to flesh them out without being too obvious about it.

Through the memoirs they're writing in their extension class, the reader gets to glimpse their past lives and it's a great way to go back in time within the confines of the book. The most interesting thing the women in the memoir class learn is that "the memoir is not and should never be confused with the truth...As a result, truth belongs to the teller." So, while the memoir is the "teller's" truth, it might not essentially be "the truth." While writing these memoirs, each of these women will come upon secrets in their past that might not be as truthful as they want their pasts to be.

I highly recommend this book and encourage the reader to join these women as they delve into their pasts and form a new future together at the same time.

I would, however, be remiss if I didn't mention something that almost ruined this book for me. In the first sentence of the "Acknowledgments", the author thanks her editor for her "wise editorial eye." My advice to her editor is twofold...get a pair of eyeglasses and go back and get a refresher course in English grammar. There are no less than twenty different errors in this book. When I hit the first one or two, I shook my head and moved on. When there got to be more than one on the same page, I got angry. If we as readers are willing to spend good money on a hardcover book, I realize that the publisher can't always guarantee that we'll love the story but they should be promising a well-edited book. Shame on you St. Martin's Press.

Very witty
Though I'm not a big fan of Martin's adult fiction, I very much enjoy the "tongue in cheek" humor found in her non-fiction, such as this book. She has a real way with words and puts a new spin on all the old Bible stories we have all been taught since nursery class in Sunday School. Some of the sentences have to be re-read to be fully comprehended and appreciated for their wit. This book would be enjoyable even to those who may have no Biblical background, because she sticks to the basic facts and helps us all to relate to the figures in the stories. If someone is looking to be spiritually encouraged, any chapter in this book would be a good read.

Encouraging and humorous. I loved it.
I found this book encouraging & humorous. It gives you a different view of women in the Bible. They weren't perfect, they were human, and they struggled just like we do today, but we can learn from how they handled situations. LaJoyce Martin has a refreshing positive attitude that sets an example for all Christian women.

The Mystery of the Poison Arrow Tree
It's good to see this book back in print. Our family really enjoyed the story about the Dorobo hunter in Kenya and the tree he uses to make arrow poison. The story also plays on an underlying fear of the spirit world in Africa. The fast-paced adventure kept our sons begging for one more chapter when we read the book as a family.

We loved all of Arensen's exciting Rhino Tales.
My kids and I have read and loved every one of Arensen's Rhino Tales. Since we live in Kenya at one of the locations in the poachers' story, my children feel like they were living a real life adventure everyday because Arensen, a published author, wrote stories about their home area.

There's mystery, coming of age rites, fun trips, animal stories in these books. It's great serial reading for a class or youth group. You can read about Kenya, animals, kids who live in foriegn countries, and life principles.

If you and your kids like adventure stories set in fun, far away places, you should read the Rhino Tales (all six of them). They make great bed time reading. But beware, you may not want to stop because the action never does.
