True Story
The true and tragic story of a mother's untimely death while shopping for cleaning supplies in a Wal-Mart (SAMS Club). The story is prefaced with wonderful background of life and family in rural Oklahoma. Imagine being a little girl so poor that you accompany your Father to buy chicken feed...so you can pick out the sacks...for your next dress. The family ties, loyalty to family, and love of family are refreshing in an age where families fall apart at an alarming rate. The heartless and callous behavior of Wal-Mart executives after the death is shocking (NOTE: Hitlary Clinton was on the Board of Directors). The court battle that develops is a true "David vs. Goliath" story as Wal-Mart's corporate attorney takes on the families life-long friend, a simple "country" attorney. The intensity and suspense of the court battle will keep you reading. Shame on Wal-Mart and SAM's club for focusing on corporate greed instead of customer safety. This book would make a good movie.

For the love of a mother.....
Judith Cain Dotson's first book is a smooth read. It is a journey from the tragedy of her mother's untimely death to a family's realization that while they cannot "bring back" their mother, their efforts to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening to others is one way to keep her memory alive. Ms. Dotson's courage to write about her mother's death and the events that followed makes for a "David and Goliath" tale that's a must read!

A must read for America's bargain shoppers
Heads up! It seems that preventable accidental death is cost effective where America shops. The sounds of forklifts and the sight of merchandise stacked hight are all ploys to give the shopper the illusion that they are getting a great deal. What the shopper doesn't realize and what Dolly Cain discovered is that the ambiance of a bargain warehouse is the prime objective--not the safety of the customer. An occasional incident is acceptable to the bottom line. Judith Cain Dotson, the Cain family cantadora, has put a face on one such 1985 incident. In Final Touch we have the pleasure of meeting Dolly Bryant Cain. Mrs. Cain was one of the outstanding memebers of what Tom Brokaw has labeled the Greatest Generation. Dolly was a loving wife, mother, artist, and poet. At the time of her death she had successfully battled cancer. In one of Mrs. Cain's poems she asks, "What would you think if in the morning/When you looked upon the clock--/If the time was moving backwards,/If yesterday were tomorrow, t'would be awkward." Turning yesterday into today is what Judith Dotson does as she takes us through her mother's life. In Final Touch we meet a joyous woman that supported her family while reciting poetry, a farm woman that was known to gift-wrap chicken feet, a woman that kenw how to find joy in the moment.

If Dolly Cain could turn back the hands of time, she would join her daughter and the readers of this book in demanding that the super discount stores take the forklifts out of their stores during business hours. According to Dotson, there have been, "Over 30,000 falling merchandise accidents from 1989-1997 in the Wal-Mart system." Final Touch is a must read for any American that shops in warehouse type stores.

This book is super! This mystery has another mystery inside the first one! The end of the book is extremely surprising!!! I finished this book over the weekend because it was so good!

A Double Mystery in a Clubhouse.
As in all Wishbone tales this story has us looking at a famous book and dealing with another story. In the case of the mystery tales we have a mystery in another mystery. This makes for a doubly mysterious book. It was funny and kind of scary. It as a surprise at the end as all mysteries are. I liked the book and thing everyone should read the whole series.

This book was fun and mysterious.
Someone is haunting the clubhouse that Joe, Sam, David are hanging out in with some new kids. The person is found, but the REAL mystery is just beginning!

My Oh My What a Wonderful Book
Spanning the globe from Asia to Antarctica to Alaska to New Guinea, this wonderful book is a must for any mountain lover--including those of the armchair variety. The illustrations are heartpounding, while about a few dozen short narratives are wholly satisfying. This book is a wee bit pricey, and, tho' I am a poor boy, I don't feel one bit robbed. This may be the best picture book/narrative mtn. book I own.

Buy the coffee table size hardcover, not the paperback!
It's got such fantastic photography, the hardcover is well worth the investment.

Photography
Great photographs in this book - largely by John Cleare one of the world's greatest mountain photographers. Thank you John for yet more stunning photographs!

4 1/2 * A One-Joke Note
There's not much plot to this book, but it's done extremely well. IT is made for reading aloud, with jumpy rhymes and repetition. "There's a moose on the loose!" Next page: "There's a moose on the loose and a bad-tempered goose!" And so on, until the bear also says "I don't care to a "pig who is big," "a snake from the lake," "a wolf from the north(what happened to the rhyme on that one?)," and a "teeny-weeny mouse." The latter gets our laissez-faire bear jumping back to his lair. As you can see, infectious fun. A good book for the small fry, read this one with drama! 16 pages, with simple pictures on each one.

My 8 year old still loves this book!!
The wonderful patterning of words and the rhyming text pull the young child's attention right into the story. The story is one the the child can memorize and begin repeating it as you read they really love the repetative aspects.

I really wish the author and the publisher would once again put this selection back into print.

The Best
I absolutly loved this book. It was the first Colin West book I ever read to my story time group. They laughed and enjoyed the book. I love the rhyming. The illustrations were colorful and wonderful. Simply a must for little children.

Everything old is new again! Exercise a new passion.
Alice Hoffman has uncovered a forgotten piece of American history and inspired me to begin collecting Indian clubs. Hoffman has written an informative book complete with stunning photographs and personal reflections.

Indian clubs now prized for their sculptural, artistic merits were once a must for every man, women, and child who hoped to obtain physical and spiritual well-being in the late 19th, early 20th century.

It's amazing to learn that Indian clubs were once thought to be an exercise that would stand the test of time. Hoffman has shown they have, not as muscle builders but as a collectible.

If you're interested in learning something new and not afraid of becoming an Indian club collecting addict as I have since reading this book, I suggest you order Indian Clubs today.

A new discovery-everything old is new!
Excellent resource for serious collectors and the curious. Photographs are inspirational. Can't wait to start my own collection. Historical information very comprehensive. Good read as well as informative.

Confirms there is a new "exercise" in folk art collecting!
A wonderful read...informative.Photographs are ready for framing. Definitely will inspire you to begin to collect Indian clubs. As stated by Gerard Wertkin, Director, Museum of American Folk Art, "(Alice Hoffman) has recovered an all but forgotten subchapter in the history of American sport and, at the same time, helped us appreciate another aspect of American artistic creativity. Hats off to her!" I agree with Mr. Wertkin and the following reviews: Antiques & Auction News, "A colorful exercise in collecting,"..."documents the "life" of this colorful and practical form of exercise...a charming addition to any antiques library." Antique & Collectibles News Service, "Inside Antiques, Good Reading,"..."we love (this) book...a folk art gem." Antiques Review, "The Bookshelf,"..."Superb color photographs...Fascinating archival material." Denver Post, "What's Up,"..."If you're searching for the most unusual art book of the year don't overlook Indian Clubs." Maine Antiques Digest, "Books, Calendars, CD-ROMS,"..."a case for Indian clubs as folk art." The Star Ledger, NJ, "A new life for Indian clubs,"..."new coffee table book...If TV infomercials had been around in their heyday, chances are the physical fitness mavens of the day would have been pitching Indian clubs in the same way abs machines and treadmills are endlessly hawked now."

Investment Clubs for Dummies: Clear, Thorough, Enjoyable
This book answered all of the questions I had about investment clubs. Written in a casual, easily accessible way, this book gave precise and detailed information about founding or finding a club.
In the book, you'll learn about what work is actually involved with club membership; tips on assembling a group of committed people to be in a club with (plus tips on how to deal with troublesome member issues); and how to find and use investment and investment club resources to learn more about investing and to help keep your club running smoothly.
Whether you are simply interested in what investment clubs are and how they work, or you are serious about starting or joining an investment club, this book is a clearly written and fun way to learn about clubs. By going through each step of starting or becoming involved with an investment club, by dissecting the language of the legal documents your club must maintain, and by providing examples of actual investment clubs, this book covers it all, and will be an invaluable resource for the life of your club.

Investment Clubs for Dummies
If your looking to start an invesment club - This book is a MUST have! Already have an invesment club - This book is a MUST have! It will prove to be helpful and informative for new and existing clubs. This book along with information provided by the National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) will help clubs become successful, long-term investors.

Sold on Investment Clubs
In the past, I have considered investment clubs to be an interesting idea. But it wasn't until I started reading Investment Club for Dummies that I seriously considered starting an investment club with a group of people.

Doug Gerlach and Angele McQuade have done such a good job with this interesting, motivational book that you want to just jump in and follow their lead. Their instructions on planning, setting up, and keeping an investment club alive seem really "do-able" and worthy of our consideration.

As with other "Dummies" books, this one is simple, instructional and fun to read - even if you're not planning on joining an investment club. Along with investment club information, you will surely absorb a good measure of facts about investing in general. And, really, which one of us knows too much about investing?

painful but helpful
This book first came out when I was about the same age as Lissa, and having the same problems with being excluded from social cliques in school. I recently re-read it, and as the pain of that time in my life came back, I realized just how much the book helped me to realize that cliques weren't the be-all and end-all of my life...I only hope that the girls who did that to me also realized it in time.

This is a great book for girls who are dealing with cliques.
This book deserves to come back into print. It's a great read, and it deals with a topic that faces many girls in fifth and sixth grades - the cruelty of cliques. I recommend it to the girls who form the cliques and the girls who are excluded by them.

Please get this in Stock!
Lissa is smart and funny, but she's also made an enemy of Debra Dobbins, the most popular girl in her class, partly because Debra stole her three-color pen. All of a sudden, Lissa has no friends and is excluded from Debra's exclusive FUNCHY club. Lissa is caught between being her own person and being like everyone else. Lissa's reaction at the end of the book is wonderful. This is an extremely enjoyable story. Definitely worth reading!

No substitute for hard work
If you're casual about your career and personal fulfillment, this book is probably too much work for you. But when you are truly ready, this book is the most practical and thought-provoking exercise I've seen. Whether it be a promotion or a complete career change, this book takes nothing for granted. After the exercises which help you understand your own professional desires, it provides you the steps and resources to conduct an effective search. It teaches you how to organize a resume, get interviews, how to prepare for them, maximize them, get offers, negotiate them....and I'm brushing over details such as lessons on researching companies, using a job search library, networking.

It may double your salary as it helped me do.
I got a job for $24,000. Then I read the book. I quit the job and re-applied for it the correct way, as directed by this book. I got $32,000 from the very same company. Now, six months later I earn $38,000 with a written promise of $46,000 for this year. If this doesn't show that this book is good, then I don't know what will.

Excellent, no nonsense book
I found the book by Kate Wendleton of the "5 O'Clock Club" to have excellent recommendations for exploring my own interests, abilities, and talents and matching those with needs in the market place. A very down to earth, no nonsense book. Best $ I ever spent.
