Once you buy a computer, it loses value faster than an expensive car or almost any other piece of gearhead machinery. But outside of the mainstream superstores and heavily marketed mail-order houses, there are ways to equip yourself with serious computer hardware and software without throwing away large sums of money. Cheapskate's Guide to Bargain Computing is a good place to start hunting down bargains, from free e-mail accounts and cheap upgrades to money-saving shareware programs that may sufficiently replace a more expensive commercially distributed alternative. The presentation is especially appealing because the authors advocate common sense. If you're upgrading a monitor, for example, you may not want to skimp on a system component that is crucial to how you interact with your machine. Each upgrade and part is considered not only for the bottom-line criteria, but also in respect to the practicality of compromise. The guide includes a CD-ROM with a library of programs to get you started and a valuable set of bookmarks to Web sites that support the frugal-minded computer user.

Don't waste your money on this book

What a horrible book. This book is nothing more than some poorly thoughtout lists. There is no substance to this book at all. If you have never built or bought a new home before, save your money, this book will NOT help you.

Almost nothing regarding Washington real estate

I bought and read this book. The title says it is a real estate buying selling guide for Washington. The book contains almost nothing about buying or selling real estate in Washington. There is a mention of excise tax rates and it includes some Puget Sound Board of REALTOR forms that are so small as to be unreadable. All that remains is a general primer on buying and selling real estate that is so basic as to be available from any Dummies book.

Almost everyhting in this book can be found in free publications from HUD.

Missing are discussions about the liability regarding old and possibly leaking heating oil tanks, discussion of title issues in the state regarding Native American lands, beach rights, or references for further reading to help the person interested in buying or selling real estate in Washington State.

I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this book.

I'm feeling ripped off with the purchase of this book

I'm interested in checking out RVing for my family and me. I bought this book because of the title and description on Amazon (no reviews had been posted at that time).

All I can say is this IS the worst how-to book I've ever read. It contains about 80 pages of info that is relevant to the title of the book and even that is repetitive. The rest is travel routes for NASCAR and Casino touring, some dealer listings, and miscellaneous other peripherally related material.

What was this guy thinking? I wanted to know about RV pros and cons for Class C RV layouts. Issues with satellite dishes. Detailed maintenance issues. How vehicle maintenance might be different than a van? What accessories might be useful? What can I expect at an RV park? Few of these questions were even remotely answered.

I can't believe this book is the "ultimate" guide to anything. This book is just plain bad news. Stay away.

Everything you already know about your Defender

A more appropriate title would be "A brief history of the Land Rover Defender." Don't expect any useful information if you already own a Defender 90 or 110. This book provides nothing but fluff and a few pretty pictures. For example, the chapter on modifications will tell you a tiny bit about roll bars, snorkels, winches, lockers, and skid guards, but WON'T tell you how to install so much as a shock absorber. Written and published in Britain, so if your steering wheel is on the left hand side this book will be all but useless to you.
