Good, brief intro and guideThis good brief introduction and guide, competitive with Hugh Johnson's Pocket Encyclopedia, will be familiar to anyone who owns the Microsoft Wine Guide on CD-ROM, which is a multimedia treatment of this excellent guide. Wine buffs argue endlessly over the relative merits of fellow Briton Johnson's and Clarke's approach. I say buy 'em both

A purchasing plan from start to finishThis book provides a thorough view of purchasing strategies and strategic purchasing. It emphasizes the need for support from the top as well as established purchasing guidelines.
It's primary benefit comes from a thorough explanation of strategic purchasing. How to determine a need, determine the possibility of seclecting one (or more) suppliers to fill that need and how to use your position as a buyer to create the type of supplier that YOU need. It also highlights the need for "upstream" planning to avoid the pitfalls that often result from unplanned purchasing.

professionalI have read the the eleventh edition in chinese version. It describes the purchasing issues professinally. But unfortunately the writer can not give the analysising method for each case of each chapeter.

Great for BeginnersAs a copywriter specializing in Real Estate I found this book to cover a lot of familiar ground. I didn't get any new information here, but I did find some of the statistics helpful, and it was helpful to see this information presented in a real estate specific format. I did condense most of the basic concepts in this book into a tip sheet for my realtors to help them write better listings, and any realtor who writes his or her own listings for advertising will find this book invaluable, especially the Appendices that give you ready to use headlines for different types of property.
Any one beginning to write ads for real estate will find this book an excellent starting off point.

Reverse Marketing: Purchasing's Greatest StrategyThis book is a timeless classic. It describes a simple, 12-point method for Purchasing to organize, present and negotiate a strategic proposal to your SUPPLIERS. This is just backwards compared to common business practice; but it is very innovative and is well founded in common sense. Leenders and Blenkhorn, professors from Portland State University (at the time), offer several good case studies from firms who have used this methodology. It is applicable to firms in all businesses. This methodology should be taught to all senior executives of manufacturing and distribution businesses in North America. If that was so, we would have excellent supplier relations and fewer suppliers to deal with. We could also control our materials costs a lot better than today. A good read. Give it a shot. It will pay for itself many times over.

Excellent beginner guide to sapphires and rubiesExcellent explaination of what constitues value in these stones. Very nice explainations of cut and inclusions. Good discriptions of means for evaluating natural from synthetic stones. A couple more chapters on the more technical aspects of gem formation/classification might have been nice, but this is likely beyond the intended target audience. There is an excellent bibliography. This book alone will vastly improve ones confidence when shopping for these stones. The only real flaw is the scant number of color pictures. Color pictures are present, but more, especially for illustration of flaws and color quality would have been helpful. All in all this text easily rates a VVS2

Aimed at the begginer and the simple mindedGard describes in simple words basic principles of stock evaluation and stock picking. Aimed mainly at the begginer investor and the investor that wants to get into the market, but not give up his day job in the process (i.e. how to limit your research time to the bare essentials not requiring an MBA, yet do it intellegntly). Gard also adds many stories, some from personal experience, to help the reader in grasping the "feel" for stock valuation. A bit too simplistic for my taste. All in all a good book, well written.
