Too much bashing! Not enough unbiased information!
This book goes over tricks that a small percentage of dealers still use. Not that informative. Some interesting tidbits, but I'd spend my money elsewhere.

Great Book! A must have for anyone considering leasing.
I highly recommend this book is for anyone considering leasing. Eskeldson does a great job explaining all the basics of leasing including terminology, pros and cons, calculating payments and negotiating the best possible deal. Included are many easy-to-use worksheets and tables. Also covered in depth is all of the sleazy tricks and scams commonly used by car dealers to rip-off unsuspecting consumers. Many of these scams I have personally seen (I analyze leases for consumers and attorneys for a living). Eskeldson is clearly not afraid to tell it like it is. In the book he outlines a fascinating web of investigation and class-action lawsuits against car dealerships and the number 2 auto maker - many of which are ongoing today.

Enlightning reading
This book take a refreshing new look at SCM, by setting the customer in the center of all avtivities. How many books have not told us how to position the decoupling point? This book helps us understand how to syncronize our supply chain with our customers demand chains. Great book!!

Fantastic Book on Demand-Chain and Market-Based Operations
I had the pleasure of discovering "Managing the Demand-Supply Chain" at a book store in Seoul, Korea. What luck!!! The authors provide a wealth of knowledge that is immediately implementable. When so many business books merely serve as "sales pieces" for their consultant-authors, it is sometimes surprising to find one that is actually actionable. I highly recommed this book to anyone interested in market-based management and value-chain management. [One note of caution: This book is ALL business. In otherwords, it can take a little "work" to read through a small number of dry and technically written sections. However, I think you'll agree with me when I say that it is more than worth the effort.] Two thumbs way up!!

Good
Very good information but we were looking for information on "mobile home/ trailer" house manufactured homes. This is more on modular homes.

good job on some areas, lacking in others
i bought this book because i'm interested in getting a modular home. the author did an outstanding job of describing the different types of manufactured housing and how to differentiate between them, with the plus and minuses of each choice.

there were also a number of general tips on how to tell a good floor plan, signs of good construction, etc. these were good enough, even though some were just common sense.

what i _didn't_ find much of, though, was specific help on getting a good deal on a modular home. i was hoping for more shopping tips--e.g. expect this from the dealer, if you see that, beware, you should get this or that, here's what you need to do, etc.

if this is what you're looking for, you'll probably be disappointed.

i did learn things from the book, and it was a reasonable investment. just be aware of the info you're looking to get from it. if you're trying to decide about options or get advice about floor plans, etc., it's a great choice. if you, like me, have decided what you want and are just looking for the best way to get it, it's not the best choice.

Next Generation Real Estate
Published in Paperback by Dageforde Publishing, Inc. (01 April, 2002)
Author: J. Lennox Scott
Amazon base price: $9.95
Average review score:

Pulling it All Together
Lennox Scott and Shelley Rossi have succinctly described the major forces affecting the residential brokerage industry today. I especially enjoyed Lennox Scott's concepts of Real Time Real Estate, Personalized Service, and Customer Relationship Management. The Seattle real estate brokerage market is as competitive a market as you'll find anywhere in the U.S., and John L. Scott's market leadership is a testimonial to the effectiveness of the company's business practices and leadership.

Next Generation Real Estate will help established and emerging brokerage firms set their priorities for creating a superior customer experience, and to foster an agent-for-life relationship between brokers and sales associates.

Leading Edge
Real Estate is an industry ready for change, and Lennox Scott is embracing technology, the Internet, and "one stop shopping" as the key to keeping real estate agents at the center of property purchases and sales.

Repeat-Buying: Facts, Theory and Applications
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (July, 1988)
Author: Andrew S. Ehrenberg
Amazon base price: $65.00
Average review score:

It's true - real facts, real theory, and predictions
This is possibly the most important marketing book ever written on buyer behaviour. It describes predictable patterns in repeat-buying behaviour that have been shown to apply across hundreds of product categories, countries and time.

But it is a hard read with far too much time spent on technical detail. It is a useful resource for researchers (especially research degree students working on brand loyalty) but managers would be better off tracking down some of Ehrenberg's more recent journal publications or reports from his 'R&D Initiative'.

PS The book is out of print but is largely available from the Journal of Empirical Generalisations in Marketing Science.

Hands Up If You're A Geek!
I'm probably the first and last person to visit this page. Sorry, Prof Ehrenberg, but if you wanted lots of sycophants to review your book you should have written "The English Patient" or something.

That said, this is a great book, if you're a geek. Andy and his colleagues have spent DECADES researching consumer behaviour and how it can be predicted. Their NBD and Dirichlet model does this very well and well done to them. At least they haven't completely wasted their time.

Doyens of high-brow journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research and The Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, it is surprising that their work is not common knowledge among FMCG marketers and managers, particularly as it has important messages relating to the current hot potato of customer loyalty.

Never mind William S. Burroughs, this guy will do your head in

Good but could be better
Good solid tips on where to go for good shopping for the 1st time visitor, but it could be organized better as it tends to jump around and return to the same topic. For example, in Shanghai, the book mentions the Dong Tai Market under Bargaining, Old City, Antiques and Antiques Market when it could have been in one section.
Also, for Hong Kong, the book gives a plug for the Hong Tourism Agency (p.44). However, beware their "QTS" seal of approval for trustworthy stores. I got ripped off at one of their approved stores (Louvre Jewelry) and they said they could not help address the problem.

Indispensible shopping guide for a China Trip
I just returned from a tour of China and this book was a tremendous resource and was the most popular book on the tour. We used it to have a fun shopping trip to the Pearl Market in Beijing and found it a useful resource for items to buy all over China. It had a good section on price bargaining and some helpful tips on transportation within the three cities. China had great prices and wonderful buys. This book is a must have for your trip to China.

Excellent pocket wine reference for trips to wine store.
This slim guide is an excellent wine bargain listing with tons of depth in international wines, pointing out excellent wines from both famous and smaller wineries.

I've used this guide for 2 yrs and add my own comments along the way. A bargain for the info and advice.
