Excellent Review in Need of Some Updating
This is an excellent review and rating of the world of spirits hitting all of the major brands and types of spirits. There is nothing out there quite like it, and would easily garner 5 stars from me simply for having such a variety of listings and ratings if it were fully up-to-date with their reviews (www.tastings.com). You will find that your tastes likely diverge from their ratings, but they do offer some excellent advice nonetheless. They rate the drinks on a 100 point scale, and anything above about 85 will likley be a good choice for sampling or buying.

Having said that, you should keep in mind that in the liquor world, things are always changing, new brands or bottlings are being introduced or discontinued, formulas are being altered, prices fluctuate (usually upwards in the realm of premium spirits!) and indeed the taste of the reviewers are changing as well. If you look at the societies website, you will see with their latest up-to-date ratings, some spirits have risen and others fallen. In some cases, if they were to update the book with a new edition, the ratings lists would look very different. The example of American Bourbons show almost all of the above 90 spirits have fallen to high 80's and low 90's on the website - which appears to me to be mostly the addition of a bunch of new high quality entries requiring a re-scaling rather than indications of a fall in quality.

Still, this is an excellent starting point, and a good example of what should br a periodic publication from the BTI!

A Great Little Rating Book
This is a great book that gives one ratings on all the world's major classes of spirits. It has a section that describes each type of spirit. Whiskies, Brandies, Rums, Vodkas, Gins, Tequilas, Liqueurs and fortified wines such as Port are covered. It covers spirits from the more inexpensive schnapps popular with the college crowd to the very pricey Scotchs and Cognacs. It rates each by a number and has tasting notes. An excellent way to choose, taste and expand ones knowledge of the world's spirits. While one may not agree with each rating, they seem to generally be in line with other guides. Remember, preferences are a matter of taste. Not everyone prefers the same things. This book is a great way to experiment.

Buying Stocks Without Money

The options market - making money with little risk
The author is carefull to separate the mathematics that supports his subject, relegating the details to the appendix, from the narrative that leads you through the subject of selling long term put options. What is especially interesting is that the recent large down turn in the market has not impacted the minimum risk associated with this investment strategy.

I found the book relatively easy to read and understand even for people without a grasp of mathematics.

An incredible resource for the amateur investor
I found this book to be an uncomplicated guide to investing in long term equity options. As a recent Law School graduate I don't have the time or the money to deal with an investment firm. Consequently, I was not building a "nest egg" for the future. However, after reading Dr. Eisen's book, I have begun to invest in my future. His discussion regarding mathematical risk analysis is genius. Thank you Dr. Eisen! I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in building long term wealth while exposing themself to as little risk as possible.

Military Vehicle Restoration in INDIA
A very good effort to save the Military Vehicles from the hands of Scrap dealers. Though in India, there is no Military Vehicle Conservation Group or Club, I would request Mr. Jim Allen to help me going about forming such a club. I have in my collection only jeeps, but shortly will be getting a WW II WC-52 (Dodge) Your book is not available in this country. Please give us addresses where it can be found. So far 4X4 vehicles are seen in Vintage and Classic Car Rallies in the major cities. My Research and restoration work is focused on WW II Jeeps. I have 23 such jeeps. Would also like to contact jeep lovers in India with your help.

Great automotive history as well as buying guide.
On my web site, The Jeep CJ3B Page, I recently said: Don't be misled by the title of this book -- this is more than just a buyer's guide. As you would expect, it's organized into chapters on all the major (and the more obscure) manufacturers, but those chapters also make for interesting reading and a useful historical and pictorial reference. Of course the Jeep chapter is a long one, and unlike most Jeep histories, it includes several CJ-3B photos. For each make of vehicle there is also a well-researched list of models and estimated values for each model in various conditions.

Great reference, some parts too abbreviated
This overall is a great book, but gets 4 of 5 stars simply because the useful, practical info is too interspersed with "mythological" information about colored gems. I really do not care which gems may have been belived to cure illnesses--- I just want to know how to identify them. The exerpts in the book that launch into mythological descriptions would better serve the reading public if they were replaced by more anecdotes and examples of dyeing, heating, and falsefying colored gems. Her book does have some of these anecdotal examples, and they are useful as well as entertaining. Overall, a good informative read. Just a bit too much non-useful information. Also, more of those beautiful pictures would have been nice.

Consumer Protection Advocate
One would not think that competing gemstones titles could generate the passionate allegiances found in the various on-line reviews of those titles. However they (those allegiances) are there and I think I know why: Have you ever noticed how people committed to exposing the truth are often reviled? In an industry where deception rephrased as "enhancements" abound, where too many jewelers justify pawning off, on unsuspecting customers, something less-than-genuine as simply "acknowledging reality" or "giving the customer what he wants", Antoinette Matlins stands out as an oracle of truth. This, I am sure, makes her somthing less than heroic to those who enjoy the easy mark-ups in less-than-genuine articles. (Apparently Antoinette Matlins's father was something of a pioneer in stepping forward and informing the public about the behind scenes in the world of gems. He was probably even less popular is his day, than his daughter is today.)

If you have a passion for truth; are a dedicated and tireless advocate for consumers and consumer rights, and wish to protect yourself or someone you love from unscrupulous sharks in the gem trade, than obtain and read this compact, easy-to-read volume. While there may be other volumes on the market with more breadth and scope, and more abundant pictures, I felt very satisified, after reading this book, that I had gained a solid understanding with which I could begin the perilous navigation of the gem trade.

Great insight of the marketplace and excellent examples
I am taking a college course titled after this textbook. It is very informative and gives helpful real life examples of how the principles are used in marketing today. My only problem with it is the information required to answer the questions at the end of the chapter is often not included in the chapter. My exams are given from those questions and many times I can't find the answers in the book. That can also be good because it makes me think for myself, but I wish I knew for sure if my exam answers are correct.

A Complete Work on Consumer Psychology
I read this book, during my first course in business.

After reading the book my thoughts on consumer psychology were better furnished; I was able to write a paper for my course evaluation that got me 99.25% and top rank.

The textbook is a strong reference that will be valuable to anyone working in Marketing. People, however, tend to find this science in particular more difficult than the other marketing sciences. The book, however, makes Consumer Behavior easy to understand.

Another related book although too simplistic in comparisson is Why We Buy by Paco Underhill.

Outsourcing in Venezuela
From this book I learned a lot about Outsourcing

Contracting Out: An Expert Writes an Outstanding Book
Professor Simon Domberger, an international authority on contracting out (outsourcing) has written THE book on this subject. Domberger has advised many governments and private companies on outsourcing; his wealth of experience is reflected in this 200+ page volume. In it, he carefully analyzes the costs and benefits of contracting out, using a wealth of examples and case studies to drive home his points. Further, Domberger places contracting out in its broader context -- as one of the strategies businesses and public organizations can use to improve, respectively, their bottom line or their delivery of public services. He squarely faces such issues as resistance to contracting out within the outsourcing organizations and suggests practical ways of coping with such hurdles.

In short, this book should be found in the library of every firm and public organization that is already contracting out and wishes to improve its operations. Furthermore, it is a "Must Read" for decision-makers who are contemplating contracting out for the first time.

A pretty good book....
I think this is a great book for someone who owns a horse. Since I don't yet own one, I found it not as interesting as some horse books. It talks about trailering your horse, what to feed it, ect.... I still enjoyed it though, because I really like reading anything on horses. And someday since I'll be owning a horse someday (I hope!!), I think this book will come in handy. :)

Well suited for teenagers with an interest in horses
Written in straightforward, easy-to-follow language, Cheryl Kimball's The Everything Horse Book is an exhaustive, "user friendly" guide to caring for and riding a horse. From equine behavioral problems, to nutrition and grooming, to tack and accessories, The Everything Horse Book introduces the lay reader to a wide range of fascinating and practical information. The Everything Horse Book is an excellent and recommended guide for adults, which is also accessible enough to be very well suited for teenagers with an interest in learning about and caring for horses.

Worthwhile for all fly anglers, even non-tyers
Route's guide gives a manageable list of flies along with a good amount of reasoning behind each. The timing/species charts are excellent in themselves. This volume is worthwhile for all fly anglers, even non-tyers. In addition to providing a guide for tying/buying flies for Alaska, it gives a good bit of how-to and even a hint of where-to. I used it prior to my most recent Alaskan venture and it was most useful. One question: Why no marabout spiders?

Tie before you fly.
This handy book provides a detailed instructions for tying a wide variety of flies that will be useful when flyfishing in Alaska. The book is organized into chapters devoted to a particular type of fishing (i.e., still water, streamers, saltwater, etc.). A set of handy tables matching up fly to species and time of the year is provided. Also included is information on how to fish the various flies.

Another two related books of interest are "Flyfishing Alaska" by Route and "Fly Patterns of Alaska" by the Alaska Flyfishers.

Sometimes a pen is just a pen. (But not every time....)
Anyone who enjoys the beauty and mechanics of fine fountain pens will enjoy this volume. The book contains dozens of beautifully photographed pens, most from 1900-1940, a golden age for fountain pens. The intricately engraved and filigreed metals and hand-painted plastics are well presented, with brief descriptions of each pen. Most of the pens are beyond the budget of anyone but the most serious collector, but their allure is captured well.

The emphasis on collecting rare pens limits its scope and appeal: Interesting (but less valuable) pens of the post-World War II period are largely ignored. However, this is one of the few book s on pens, and the beautiful merging of form, function, and fanciful embellishment is evident on every page. There is a brief history of fountain pens, focusing mainly on mechanical advances. Some of this description is too dense, and the inclusion of diagrams from the period is interesting but not very instructive for the non-collector. Includes names of dealers (and even fountain pen clubs), a guide to what is repairable in a used pen, and histories of pen manufacturers. Recommended especially for collectors, and generally for people interested in how design and craft can elevate the aesthetics of an everyday object.

A useful guide for serious fountain pen collectors.
I have been collected fountain pens for 7 years, and I always would like to find some books which can improve my knowledge and skill of collecting. This book is compendious, but contains every basic concepts that a pen collector must have. It is usuful and beautiful. Some firends of mine want to buy this book, but it is out of stock for a while. I hope it can back to stock soon.
