Pretty good bookThis book has some good information for anyone considering purchasing a home in France. It's aimed more towards a U.K. citizen, versus a U.S. citizen, but I still found it helpful. Some of the info. applies only to purchases of 'flats' (apartments) and not houses, but he doesn't tell you that. I found out after asking for some of the documentation he mentions. I would recommend the book to anyone considering the purchase of a French property -- get it early so you do it right!
an absolute necessity......if you're thinking about buying property in France. Hampshire is totally on target. I read his book before going through the buying process, and couldn't believe how perfectly his advice dovetailed with my actual experience.
All his information was exactly correct! We JUST (September '99) bought an apartment in Paris, using this book as a daily reference. It helped us immensely, giving us confidence in many procedures from looking for a place initially to the closing, including geat information on insurance and utilities. Definitely a great source!

Real Estate Contracts fully expalinedI understand that Attorney Mark Warda has written over 60 books on real estate and the law, and this is just one of those books. He dissects the real estate contract between the buyer and the seller going over each and every clause and explaining its meaning in layman's terms.
Also included in the book are 8 different forms. If you are represented by a competent and knowledgeable real estate attorney, then this book may not be necessary. But if you are buying and selling property without an attorney then this book is a must. The more property you buy and sell the more you need this book. On the other hand if you already have many settlements under your belt this book will not have many new ideas for you.
This book would most benefit the beginner or intermediate real estate investor. I also read another book by the same author on "Land Trusts" and got much more from that book.
Invaluable Tool for real estate investorsI have been interested in investing in real estate for a long time and felt confident with all aspects of it except for the contract. I didn't feel like paying a lawyer to draw up a contract that I didn't really understand and that was 9 pages long was the right answer. After reading this book I have started investing using my own contract and containing clauses and ideas presented in this book. My contracts have been reviewed and approved by real estate attorneys who never had a clue that the contract wasn't prepared by an attorney.
A fast, very practical reference for buyers or sellersThis book lets you choose how you want to set up your contract. It explains the pros and cons of each clause. Most lawyers would learn a lot from it but it is simple enough for anyone to understand. I loaned one from the library but decided I need one of my own, that's how good it is.

Good for a brief overviewIf you're still unsure about whether you *want* to buy a house, then this is the book to help you make up your mind. It covers the basics of mortgages, to finding a house, to deciding between types of houses, i.e. condos/new/resale/fixer-upper/etc. It's a quick and easy read, nicely defined words, pictures, but for if you decide to buy a house/condo, or have already decided, then you definitely need something else.
Great ResourceThis book is an excellent resource, especially for first-time home buyers. If you don't know much about real estate, this is a simple and easy tool to learn about it.
great book!!!This book has really made a lot of decisions easier. It goes into details we didn't even think of. Highly recommended!!!

The Best Book in the World. And I mean it.A 10? Can't we go any higher? This book is definatley a 12. I cannot even explain how entertaining this book was, I have read it at least 6 times since I was given this book last March. I will only say that this is definatley one of those books that should be on the required reading lists for all schools. Overall I should say that this book is an all time best. Definate 12
Almost as good as the NecromennonWhat can we say, obviously this is a book that any
full-blodded American can relate to. I consider this book the finest example of pure literary skill at its finest. I especially enjoyed the chapter describing the fair as "rambunctiously Christian" with "people praising the lord at all corners". Chapter 9 says it all about the book in the 3 little words of "I love God", well, I love this book. The only reason I gave this book a 9 is because the forward by Paul Cruchow was not the best example of grammar that I would expect, even from my 3rd grade class, such phrases as "Yuck yuck, you'll love this book." and "Why if I knew how to write as good as Mr Amato I'd be a pure literary star, chuck full of star stuff, yup I wanna be like Amato, or as I like to call him, TAmato." I mean what kind of a run on no sense sentance is this? Well, I guess the rest of this book makes up for Paul's illiteracy. I would encourage the reading of this book to any person of any age. "The Great Jerusalem Artichoke Circus" is also makes a great gift. I thank Mr. Joseph A. Amato for this wonderful literary treat.

Exceptional book for beginners and experienced traders.Recommended reading for those having trouble getting into -- and more importantly -- getting out of a position. Written in Australian so requires some translation, but not really a problem. A MUST read for short term traders at any level.

A little vague, but it's a MUST HAVEIt is not a user-friendly book, but it supplies a lot of guidelines fot the beginning importer. I recommend you to buy it, but supplement it with specific info on the article(s) you intend to import (food, clothing, machinery, etc.).
A must-have reference book for international trade.Wow! What a useful book it is! It is an essential reference that provides concise, accurate, and informative expertise especially on importing. If you are looking for a reliable resource about importing regulations and entry procedures, this is the one that you should consider!!!

from a FSBO perspectiveWe found a By Owner property we wanted so we needed help in representing ourselves instead of having a realtor do it. The book had good advice for general buyers but was lacking some advice in things to watch out for to avoid being taken advantage of by the sellers--and especially, it had very little on buying a "by owner" home. It had much more however on selling by owner. It was great book for the perspectives also of a first time buyer and had lots of tax information if thats what youre seeking. I would buy it again but its not suitable as an only for FSBO transactions.
A must for 1st time home buyer to understand the processWe are trying to decide whether or not to buy or first home (since we may or may not move away in a year). This book took me through the process step by step, including tax benefits. I even took the information from the book, entered it into last years Turbo Tax file to see how this years return would have been different. I've heard so much about how a home is a tax shelter, but now I see the numbers of how and why. The explanation cleared the muddle of the different types of loans and many other things to think about.
Excellent Value for the MoneyI bought this book because we needed help selling our current home. I found many helpful suggestions but more importantly, it helped me to understand the process of buying another home even better so that we won't make the same mistakes we made when buying our first home. I understand the details of mortgages much better now and am shopping around for one that is best suited to our needs. For help with selling a home, I found Terry Eilers' How to Sell Your Home Fast and Mary Donnelly Pilgrim's It's Showtime to be most comprehensive.

A fun readAll the twist of a classic suspense novel with a bit of Haldeman hard sci-fi thrown in. This is one of the most entertaining books I have read in a long time.
This book really kicksSuspenseful and action-packed, with believable (and likable) characters and a lot of solid science-fictional ideas that come together in unexpected but inevitable ways. If I have one criticsm it's with the ending and the way in which one character is changed by a drug experience. I just didn't buy it. (Yes, i'm being vague to avoid spoiling it if you haven't read it.) Still a very worthwhile read.
My favorite bookBeing a devoted SF fan with a library of hundreds of books, and with an interest ranging from early works of A.E. van Vogt in the 1940s to Gibson and all ranges of the field, I was surprised to read this book by a to me unknown author and find that it was the best one I ever read. The story is suspenseful, fastpaced, and reminds me of a mix between Alistair MacLean and John le Carre set in an SF universe. Haldemans descriptions of violence are, perhaps because of his history in the military, very lifelike, and succeeds in making you feel the shock and surprise that only reallife violence can {check out the boatscene with the exploding head}. I can only say READ IT!!!

Mostly lists - a workbookMost of the book is literally pages filled with questions about what you want in a home, with blank space to write in your answers. There are a few suggestions that all somehow end up pointing at similar designs. The filled out book would be given to an architect to start a design. Very good for someone who needs a formal structure to decide what is needed. If you've already throught seriously about what you want, this book will waste your time.
Excellent reference for home buyers! We found The Home Design Handbook to be an excellent resource as we searched for our home. The questions and exercises helped us narrow down and prioritize what we wanted (and did not want) in our home. Even the information intended for those who plan to build or renovate a house, covered issues that we found important considerations for anyone buying an existing home. For example, we learned alot about what to watch for to ensure the house was more energy efficient, inside and out. We felt we were better educated buyers with this great book!
thinks of everything - very personalized! This book looks at home design from a wholistic approach as well as up close and personal. It focuses on your hopes and dreams and the soul of your home to give you true satisfaction with your design. It includes such things as site, energy considerations, family's lifestyle, outdoors and indoors, and budget. With the guidance of this book you can plan to build a house from scratch or remodel an existing house to your taste and needs. Each room in the house is taken into consideration in detail, right down to the storage space, with photos and floor plans. Useful addresses and an extensive bibliography are given for your further exploration. This book is fantastic, especially because it gives you the freedom to custom design your dream house. Much of it is in the form of a workbook, with blanks to fill in. After going through all the forms, it will become clear to you what you need to do to achieve your goals.
