Fantastic Book on Demand-Chain and Market-Based Operations
I had the pleasure of discovering "Managing the Demand-Supply Chain" at a book store in Seoul, Korea. What luck!!! The authors provide a wealth of knowledge that is immediately implementable. When so many business books merely serve as "sales pieces" for their consultant-authors, it is sometimes surprising to find one that is actually actionable. I highly recommed this book to anyone interested in market-based management and value-chain management. [One note of caution: This book is ALL business. In otherwords, it can take a little "work" to read through a small number of dry and technically written sections. However, I think you'll agree with me when I say that it is more than worth the effort.] Two thumbs way up!!

Review of The Media Handbook authored by Helen Katz
As a 30+ year senior level media planning professional at the DDB Chicago advertising agency and now as an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago, I read The Media Handbook by Helen Katz with great interest. Helen Katz is one of the premier media research professionals in the advertising agency business who has an academic as well as a professional background in media planning.

This handbook provides a comprehensive yet highly readable overview of the rapidly changing media planning and buying environment. Not only does the book explain basic media terms and concepts but it also places media in the emerging marketing planning context where media is viewed as a key tool in Integrated Marketing Communications.

It is well laid out organizationally and easy to follow. It also spares the reader volumes of "media math" which can be overwhelming.

The Media Handbook is a valuable reference tool that should be kept by marketing and advertising generalists, media professionals and students as a guide to making intelligent decisions about the role of media in a marketing plan.

Mortgage Loans "What's Right For You ?"
I am in the market for my 1st home that is a reason I have read several " mortgage books ". I highly recommend this book. The author explained different loans in great details. He also including a current realistic budget I used before getting over my head. I am confidence I will save money on my new purchase. The only down fall I wished there was a current issue. I would like to have compared 1997 to 2001 editions, to see if the loan process has changed into the 21st century.

A no-nonsense, easy to read eference
I really enjoyed this book. Contrary to many other "manuals", this one has nothing that's unneeded or unimportant - no watery phrases, no stupid stories - just up to the point, precise information on subjects such as sources of the mortgage money, reading the fine print, ARMs, FHA and VA loans. It even includes Ammortization and Loan Progress Tables..And it's very easy to read and understand!

The Outsourcing Dilemma: The Search for Competitiveness
Published in Hardcover by Financial Times Prentice Hall (11 September, 2001)
Author: J. Brian Heywood
Amazon base price: $29.00
Used price: $28.93
Average review score:

A well written A to Z of Outsourcing
Do you work for an outsourcing provider?
J Brian Heywood's book about outsourcing is a comprehensive look at the topic from the perspective of both the client considering outsourcing as a way to improve their competitiveness and the outsourcing service provider. Both types of organisations will gain an invaluable insight into the outsourcing world. The book gives sound advice and backs up the advice with loads of actual examples. The author explains how outsourcing, if handled correctly, has the potential to produce real tangible saving for all types of organisations, not just large ones. He also explains how outsourcing arrangements can fail and what clients and service providers should do to limit their risks of failure.
The book answers the questions:
·Why outsource?
·What are the benefits of outsourcing?
·Which functions should an organisation should consider outsourcing?
·What are the alternatives to full outsourcing?
·How does an organisation choose an outsourcing service provider?
The author argues the case for a 'Business Satellite' approach to outsourcing where the client and the service provider establish a separate organisation that is jointly owned so both can share in the future benefits generated from the outsourcing agreement.
I would say that this book is a must read for any organisation looking for ways to improve their competitiveness in today's market.

The absolute best book for home sellers--don't loan it out!
This is THE book to turn to when fixing up your home to sell, or even if you are just looking for inexpensive fix-ups--this book covers everything, from each room individually, to the house as a unit, to even how to make the best of a bad view from the windows. Also, there is an extremely good section on how to decide whether you should or shouldn't use a broker to sell your home, how to conduct a home tour, etc.

Best of all, not only are most of the suggestions at or under $100, even though the book is a bit old ('86), they are things that anyone can do--not major undertakings which require a contractor. There are black and white photos of before and after rooms, which really show how just a little money, spent wisely, can make a huge difference in how your home will look to a potential buyer. Using this book as a guide, any home can show (and sell!) like a model home.

I loaned my copy out once and never got it back. Luckily I was able to purchase a used paperback copy (for $2 more than the original price!!), but there is a reason why it is priced $$$ on ZShops. This book really needs to be in print again--the other books on the market are a waste of money compared to this one.
