Recommended by Gemologist
I bought a diamond in the NY wholesale diamond center and after taking it to an appraiser recommended by a friend, found out it was treated (it had cracks that were filled with glass so that you wouldn't see them)! The appraiser ordered me not to buy any more diamonds, or any other gem, until I went out and bought a book called "Jewelry & Gems: The Buying Guide." If I had read this book BEFORE I purchased the diamond, I would never have made such a mistake. First, the book tells about the exact treatment used on the diamond I bought, along with all kinds of treatments used on diamonds and other gemstones. Bit I really couldn't believe it as I read an example of EXACTLY what happened to me on 47th street. There is was, my story! I now enjoy shopping for jewelry more than ever, have discovered gemstones I never knew about before, and more importantly, following the information the authors provided, I now know exactly what to do to ensure I'll never be cheated again. I can't thank them enough, or praise this book enough.

Choices Without Fear!
I bought this book after reading another review, and it was one of the smartest things I've ever done. I love jewelry, but after reading this book, I'm now much smarter about what I'm doing and I'll never buy jewelry again the way I used to go about it! I was recently ripped off, but now I now know what to aak, what to get in writing, and where and how to confirm the facts! In short, how to avoid ever being ripped off again. I also have a much better idea of what the price should be (thanks to the excellent price guides). It is also filled with great tips to help you get the stone YOU want rather than what the saleperson thinks you should buy, and wonderful design ideas too. And there is also great info on stuff like gold (for example, did you know that white gold has nickel in it, which some people are allergic to!). I also learned how to take care of my jewelry, especially pearls, which jewelers seem to know nothing about. In fact, I've just ordered "The Pearl Book" by one of the authors of this book.

I never knew there was so much to know, or how many choices were available to me. Now I do, and I can't thank the authors enough for the great service this book provides for people like me who love it all--diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry of all kinds.

Book pays for itself many times over
One thing that retail jewelers count on is that the public is unwilling to do its homework.

And if you've got tens of thousands of dollars to spend and don't much care where it goes, don't buy this book (but feel free to send me some of that money).

On the other hand, if you're like most of us, you want to get the best value for your money, and this book will definitely help by giving great tips when buying diamonds and other gems.

Not only that, this book can give you some creative ideas. Looking for something beyond the cheap "frozen spit" diamonds that are being sold all over these days? For the same money, you can buy a colored stone or cultured pearl that will look better and be a better value. Want a nice, bright green stone but haven't got $10k for an emerald? This book can give some affordable alternatives, like maybe a tsavorite.

This is a tremendous resource, written in an easy-to-understand style, and organized in a way that makes referring to it inviting.

Redemption at its best!
Anna and Karl are so real - it seems impossible they are fiction. Somehow, I feel that their essence lives on. Lyvyrle's descriptive writing of the flora and fauna, people, feelings, and, best of all, their growing love story lingers and lingers...truly evidence of the mark of truth. I find myself wondering how those two are doing...I am sure I will reread this book at a later time. I wish Lyvyrle would reconsider her retirement from writing--'cause her readers are mighty unhappy about it! Fortunately, I still have a stack of her books to read; maybe she will rescend her retirement before I am done. Otherwise, we're gonna have to ask Oprah to look for another Lyvyrle, should one exist!

If you love romance, you must read this.
Mail order marriage at its best. Take a "perfect" gentlemen and a young, streetwise woman (with a younger brother no less) and you have a relationship made in heaven. To watch the two build a relationship almost makes you feel like you're intruding. Truly a wonderful story that you will read again. Not to mention that if you're not in love, you will want to be. This book made me start reading this author and I've now read every one of her books.

Has made my list of all time favorites....
How one could find this boring, I have no clue...I guess everyone is different because I was ABSOLUTELY SWEPT AWAY by "The Endearment". I could not put this book down..I was addicted to it from page one. I LOVED Karl and Anna. I adored the way he talked to her..how he called her "Onnuh"...yes he angered me at times, but oh!!! Have I mentioned how much I LOVED this??!!! The lovesecenes were so emotional and sweet..not a hint of purple prose in sight. Karl and Anna were so unsure and in need of one another my heart was practically splitting in two just imagining them. This is one of those stories where I walked away in disbelief that the characters were not actually real people. I cannot say enough about this book..I would DEFINITELY recommend it.

Interesting Book for Recreating New Beliefs
I liked his commentary and explanations of the important stories from the bible.

He applies it to Business.

It's an honest good clean book of strategies that will help you with your faith, family and friends.

I'm a fan after reading his Wall Street Money

Machine book. Can't wait to hit a seminar

in the near future.

One may imagine learning even more about

the life of wealth, riches and promises.

Politicians should read this book!

Just started this one --- it's a winner
One of the things that impressed me about Wade from the getgo, is his costant references to the Bible and his philosophy is based on scriptures. This book shows you how to use Gods principles in your business and investing life as well as your personal life.Notice that Wades usually ever present detractors are absent here. Perhaps that is because they don't live by Gods principles?I'll leave with this biblical quote:"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."-Isaiah 55:8-9

Build Wealth without Compromising Values
My introduction to Wade Cook was his best selling book Real Estate Money Machine and Real Wealth and then his Wall Street Money Machine books that followed. I also have a huge library of self development books. Although I hate to admit it, if Wade Cook hadn't written this book, I never would have bought it......and I would have stayed out of balance. This book got me back to reading the scriptures again and attending church (other than for weddings) I d been taken in by a philosphy of a very successful and highly educated individual who was a atheist. He gave all the scientific reason why there wasn't a God and how this Universe came to be. Then I saw how his career came crashing down. Relationships dissolved. Health deteriated and he died at the young age of only 49. It got me thinking that his way was the wrong way. I have always had a lot of respect for Wade Cook so bought Business Buy the Bible and when I bought this book, I bought a Bible with it. Can you imagine that---I had over 500 books in my library, but no Bible! What this book did for me was to put balance back in my life. I found that I felt better, started to attract more people in my life, more sales, business and investment success and enjoyed my family more. I wholeheartiy recommend Business Buy the Bible to everyone who wants more out of life and wants to get better in every way.

I read it
The book I have just finished reading is Can't Buy my Love by Jean Kilbourne. I think it's a well-written book. She really breaks down the different styles of advertising and the way each person is affected.
Ms. Kilbourne also talks about how some ads influence men and women. Here is an example from the book its woman talking she dressed very sexy and says, "Until I find a real man, I'll settle for a real smoke". This is just one of the many different ways of advertising.
If you are looking for an informative book that will teach you about advertising. I believe this is the book you have been looking for. So tell a friend about it!!

You'll never look at advertising the same way again
Jean Kilbourne has a truly rare gift for finding purpose in and explicating insight into the thousands of ads that bombard us on a daily basis. It is fascinating to watch her meticulous, brilliant, even-handed exploration into the world of advertising. Her cogent remarks on the psychology of advertising bring a rare glimpse into previously unchartered waters. Having been a long-time fan of her films, it was also a distinct pleasure to read about her own personal and professional development in the first chapter as it was affected by the products advertisers insist we need to be fulfilled. Those interested in psychology, sociology, communication/cultural studies, and feminism should ensure this book is read and kept forefront on the bookshelf. It would be ideal as a college text as well.

Must read
This book should be required reading for every female high school freshman. Every woman who has dieted, picked herself apart for her appearance or stared longingly at a magazine layout needs to read this book. It is such a fantastic book. You know you are living under myths and lies to a certain extent but just how many is amazing. I love all the excerpts about how magazines try to pull in major advertising dollars. I have recommened to all of my friends who have young female children. I wonder how much smarter I could have been if this had entered my life as a younger woman.

Not quite enough
This was the first Jack Higgins book that I've read, and likely not my last. This book was easy to read and the action was consistent throughout.

I do think Higgins could have done more to develop his characters. I don't feel that I really got to know the book's most exciting character, Harry Martineau.

decent Jack Higgins fiction
Higgins provides another satisfying tale of World War II intrigue in Night of the Fox. Harry Martineau is a good character, and the action moves pretty swiftly. This book is not as good as The Eagle Has Landed, but it is one of Higgins' better novels.

This book is one of Higgins' best
I've read this book 3 times and it is still action packed till the very end. Higgins is a great writer and I can't wait for his new book to come out.

OUTSOURCING ELIMINATES STALLS
I was pleasantly surprised by STRATEGIC OUTCOURCING which deals not only with what to outsource but how to make the outsourcing decision using key two questions: Is this a core or strategic area? and What do I save and gain by outsourcing this activity? Peter Drucker believes that the reason to outsource is to free up critical management time to work on important things. If you happen to save some money in the process, that is an added benefit, but not the outsourcing driver. STRATEGIC OUTSOURCING also deals with the people and transitional issues, and how to manage the business and the employees once the activity is outsourced. If you have not outsourced anything except payroll and tax before, you must read this book. Another process that you must pursue primarily because of the time saved for management is described in THE 2,000 PERCENT SOLUTION, by Mitchell, Coles and Metz. They describe a unique approach to achieve your goals in 1/20th the time by identifying and eliminating the stalls to progress and focusing on the best possible ways to reach your objective. Outsourcing may be one of them! I highly recommend both books.

Outstanding Book
I found that "Strategic Outsourcing: A Structured Approach to Outsourcing Decisions and Initiatives" was extremely helpful to us in our outsourcing initiatives. Of particular note was the usefulness of the sections on: the reasons to outsource, case studies of actual transactions, and project forms. He shows how cost reduction is only one of many good reasons to outsource.

Maurice Greaver brings real value in the discussions of outsourcing as it relates to the organization's vision, strategies, core competencies, and other transformaton tools. As the president, I now better understand how the outsourcing tool fits into the bigger picture.

Finally, the step by step guidance is especially helpful to the project team as they move through the initiative. He offers many tips that only a wealth of experience could have generated. You can significantly cut your outsourcing learning curve with this book.

Outsourcing In My Case Was A Business Error
I work in an outsourced accounting department. I learned today that my company is giving kickbacks to various client individuals, in order to glean higher ratings from those individuals -- such that the client company will pay us more this year. However, the client company always finds a reason NOT to pay that extra amount, they always come up with some deficiency in our performance to avoid paying us more money. It's unsavory and dishonorable, and those of us who do all the real work pretty much just get defecated upon. Outsourcing is, in a word, bad -- and all honest, productive people should do their best to avoid any connection therewith.

excellent strategy
As a person contemplating real estate investing, this book offers an excellent opportunity to invest wisely and help others in the community. The book is clear, concise, and easy to follow. "Buy low, Rent smart, Sell high" allows families to have a piece of the American Dream. This plan provides a unique opportunity for the investor to not only make a profit, but to feel good about what they're doing. I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about real estate investing.

Ideal for the Ben and Jerry's business investors
Buy Low, Rent Smart, Sell High demystifies the whole process and introduces a lucrative and philanthropic way of doing business today. Heller and Frank are really onto something here. I like that Buy Low... combines smart and savvy real estate investing advice while simultaneously improving social inequities. This book has the potential to make a significant impact. As investors look for new ways to obtain wealth and connect to their communities, they will find this book easy to read and exciting to put into practice.

Very Good, but I'm no Expert.
This book was very easy to read, and very clear. It offers a clear plan how to sell medium income family homes on contract and make a nice profit. I find the ideas very exciting because I would rather the renter take more responsibility for the home, and when they are working to actually OWN the house, thats exactly what they do. One note, you need to get the homes at %20 below appraised value, which basicly means getting foreclosed homes, but it does tell you how to do this. I only have one rental house, but I believe I'm going to use this book to sell it on contract to my renters.

Great Book
This is my second Dale Brown, and if i can describe this book in one word, the word is ACTION. THe descriptions of Dogfights are very good, and the plot is very good. THe only problem in this book is the date of the History .. 1996 .. and in the book the USSR still exists .. but we can forgive the autor .. because this book was writen in 1989.
Great Book ... must Read

This one is the best of Brown
This is the book that made me a Dale Brown fan. I read it a few years ago, but I still remember the great story about the integration of flight controls directly into its human pilot. To "become one" with the machine WOULD be the ultimate thrill ride if the machine was a high performance fighter aircraft. Just how DO you win against a fighter that reacts as fast as the human brain thinks? Dale Brown knows. This is THE classic of Dale Brown's books. If you don't like this one, well.....there's no accounting for taste

One of Dale Brown's very best!
A classic techno-thriller! Much of the plot, concerning the theft of a high-tech experimental fighter plane was inspired by FIREFOX by Craig Thomas, as was the thought-controlled weapons systems and navigation. However, Dale Brown goes several steps better. The technicalities behind the Dreamstar aircraft are well explained without too much babble and could be feasible one day. The aerial dogfighting sequences, utilising a variety of aircraft(National Guard F-16s, Nicaraguan MiGs, Mexican F-20s and so on, and the 767 AWACS was an inspired idea!)and interesting locations in Central America are also first rate. I've only had a trial lesson in a light aircraft as a birthday present from my ever-patient wife, but I can still visualise the settings, manouvres and procedures described in his narrative as well as that day. This book would make a power-packed movie, so come on, Hollywood! If you like aircraft, thrills, future technology and fast paced action then this is the book for you. One minor point, there were two goofs - the B-1B bomber is known as the Lancer and not the Excalibur, and the B-2 stealth bomber is known as the Spirit and not the Panther, but considering this 1996-set book was written in 1988 the we can let Dale off the hook! The story also brings the McLanahan Timeline up to date, despite a few inconsistencies before the 'prequels' such as SKY MASTERS and HAMMERHEADS were written.

How to Buy Stocks

Great book, well illustrated and a Must Read!!
This is a great book to understand stocks and debt instruments market. The author explains the various stages in the growth of a company using his fictional Pocket Pole Company and his writing style is lucid. This is a book dealing with a considerable number of terms and Hecht's examples helps one in easily grasping the concept.

The book is big, more than 400 pages long and covers various investment techniques using Stocks, Bonds, Treasury Bonds, Mutual Funds and also discusses the making of a stock market, guidelines to follow while investing etc. It is really a wonderful read for anyone interested in understanding money flow and how corporations are born.

Personally, I enjoyed reading about Pocket Pole and the author's comparison of Pocket Pole with companies like IBM and Walt Disney. It is amazing to note that this book is around half a century old and the concepts haven't really changed.

One thing I didn't like about is that the book needs to be updated, and should discuss the Enron and the recent stock market crash. Louis touches upon incidents of 1994 and I feel that a revision is very much due!

Overall, a great book if you are new to the investment market.

The ABCs of Stock Market Investing Tools
The world is full of books that claim to teach you how to make millions starting with nothing, in only a few minutes a day. Unfortunately, these books skip over the basics that everyone needs to know about buying stocks. Where can you get those basics? How to Buy Stocks is the source you need.

I would suggest that you first read John Bogle's book, Common Sense on Mutual Funds, to determine whether or not you will even want to buy individual stocks. For most people, indexed mutual funds are a much better alternative. If you've read that book, and want to have a small portion of your money in directly purchased stocks, then you are ready for this book.

I have read dozens of books on how the basics of how to invest in stocks, and think that this is the most valuable and objective one around.

I had an amusing experience a few years ago. I attended a "sophisticated" seminar on stock market investing that was very expensive, and found that main speaker drew all of his material from this book. So you can save a lot of money, and simply buy, read, and use this book in the first place.

Another benefit of this book is that is dispels a lot of myths about stock market investing that most people have when they first start to invest. I routinely give this book to family and friends who want to know more about investing. By the way, I consult with large companies who want to improve their stock price, so I have a useful perspective on this issue from my work.

After you finish enjoying this book, I suggest that you pay particular attention to the section on writing covered calls. That is a very good way to increase your returns if you plan to hold your stocks for a long period of time. You will find this approach works best after you have passed the capital gains holding period, or for IRA money (or any other tax-deferred accounts).

Compound your wealth appropriately!

All what you need to learn the fundamentals of stock market
As a beginner in investing, I had a hard time understanding the market terminologies. I did not know how the market works until I found this book. In this book, you will learn the basics of investing; how the stock market works, mutual funds, common stocks, preferred stocks, bonds, options, trading on margin, selling short, how to deal with brokers, and a lot of other topics. One thing that I found confusing is that the author talks a lot about the rules of investing in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, to an extent that you got confused and don't know what is the current investing rules. You have to dig between the lines until you get the information you are looking for. I think it is not important for us to know the investing rules back in the 60's. Other than that, the book is excellent and definetly should be in your library, at least as a reference.

Packed with Knowledge!
Mary Lou Quinlan interviewed 3,000 women consumers about their desires and buying habits. When you finish her book, you will actually be able to answer the question, "What do women want?" Quinlan's style is direct and personable. She backs up her arguments with quotes from successful CEOs and marketers and with a smattering of do's and don'ts from the world of advertising. The book has heart - after all, Quinlan maintains that for women, business is personal - as well as practical advice, although you may have to dig for it. She provides a lot of information on broad thematic lines, sometimes making it tricky to sort out strategies from stories. This is less of a textbook than Marketing to Women (by Martha Barletta from Dearborn Trade Publishing); it is more research-based and extends beyond communications into comparable hands-on, practical counsel. We suggest this wakeup call about the buying power of women to professionals in marketing, advertising, sales and customer service. Use this primer to decode those mixed signals you've been getting from women in your marketplace - and in your life.

A Great Read!
It's amazing how Mary Lou opens our eyes once again and reminds us of good marketing fundamentals. I found the book to be full of valuable insight as well as good anecdotal facts. Definitely worth the read for any marketing and sales executive looking to target the country's most important consumer: WOMEN!

No man bashing here
As a brand manager for a consumer products company and as a man, I recommend this book for marketers who want to succeed with their most important customers - women. The tone of the book doesn't have any layer of man bashing instead the author really just tells the truth about women today. The excerpts from her research with women were so revealing and honest and I could hear the women in my own life saying the same things. Now I understand how to translate that to strategy for growing my business. A must buy for marketers.
