Interesting
I bought this as a present for someone interested in architecture, but proceeded to read it before it was wrapped! This book featured interesting buildings with plenty of trivia to later impress your friends. An interesting book, full of pictures and drawings. Perhaps not the most academic book on the subject, but fun. For a laywoman like myself, enjoyable.

This book will definitely help with the CLEP
This book is the CLIFF Notes of CLEP guides. If you would rather just read and memorize than absorb, than this one is for you. The quickest way to a passing grade on the US History I or II CLEP, this book is a must for anyone who has too many credit hours or too many non academic responsibilities to spend extra hours on this straight forward subject.

Teaches tricky words through word games and puzzles
The book has almost a hundred word games and puzzles that keep repeating 600 or so words that I've seen around often but never had more than a fuzzy idea about the meaning. If you like word puzzles it's a lot of fun and a painless way to increase the vocabulary.

A Great Biography of John McLoughlin
In the introduction, Richard Montgomery states "...where facts were lacking or where reasonable doubts appeared, I was content to advance opinions frankly stated as such." I found this very true, and am not sure whether I like or dislike the many occasions where the author "filled in the blanks." Also in the introduction, the author wrote "...my principle aim was to collect, between the covers of a single volume, such information about the 'White-Headed Eagle' as has heretofore been accessible only to the more enterprising students of western history." True to this aim, Richard Montgomery delivers a wonderful account of one of the greatest heroic figures of the Northwest, Dr. John McLoughlin. This book is definitely worth your while.

Pass on this one...
The authors must certainly be experienced in building and the various trades but this book just didn't help me at all. A total flop for me, really. The book to get for the first time Owner-Builder is the Complete Guide to Contracting Your Home, by McGuerty & Lester. A wonderful step-by-step guide with TONS of useful information.

lacking in actual construction information
I found the book helpful in areas such as financing, getting subs to show up on time, and getting good prices on material.
I was looking for very specific info regarding the actual steps of constructing your own home. I need to know exactly what type of foundation is best, how to calculate much fill I'd need for the project and so on. If you're looking for a factual book on home construction, this is not the one. I'll keep looking.

When Lenders Listen to Owner-Builders
The Owner-Builder world is here. When the cost of buying a home in the local subdivision is priced out of the hands of 50% of the local population it is time to look for alternatives.

The title of this book states it all. The Owner-Builder book is the first purchase (must have it) for those considering building their next home to meet family needs. The Author takes an on hands approach listing subject matter in easy to find sections. I like the way he relays this information.

The book will guide you to understanding many of the areas you are expected to know prior to talking seriously to a lender when securing a construction loan. I recommend this book to anyone approaching me for a construction loan. If they can complete the exercises and follow thru with the recommendations, they will have my ear for considering them for a loan. As a Construction Lender and Construction Site Supervisor this book is a must read for my clients. It saves money, time and enhances communication for all involved. Thank You for a great tool I can add to my professional arsenal. I recommend this book daily.

Sams Teach Yourself Borland C++ Builder 3 in 21 Days
Sams Teach Yourself Borland C++ Builder 3 in 21 Days

Basic book for newbies
This book contains about 200 pages of C++ tutorial, myself, I dont like that stuff repeated in all books I have. The C++ part is always too brief, you have to buy a real C++ book anyway. The rest of the book is explaing very thoroughly how to navigate the menu's in the C++ Builder 3.0 IDE and various settings. Thats good, kind of. But its all in the help files, I think. The book later shows you how to write components, that part is nice to read for the beginner. Then there are some examples of how to do various things but not as many as I would have liked.

The book takes you from the total Builder novice to a level right under newbie Builder programmer. You cant actually code much after reading this book, but you have a very good understanding about the compiler and that helps when you are advancing.

I'd like to compare Builder and conventional compilers with languages like english and german. You learn english by using it, but german by studying it hard, particularly grammar.

What I mean is, get a book containing lots of examples and blaze away. I have looked at all the Builder books on the market. C++ Builder How-to will give you a kickstart. But if you aren't clever enough to learn the Builder interface by using examples and helpfiles, you are better off buying the Teach Yourself book. Or better still, buy both, and you have the dynamic duo. I rate it 4 stars because its so well written and because its the best choice for real newbies.

If Reisdorph would write a "Teach yourself MORE C++ Builder" for intermediate programmers I'm sure it would be a bestseller, cause his books are very well written.

Good content, not enough application
This book was a very good introduction to using Borland C++ Builder 3. It covered the basics of properties, methods, and events in great detail. This book gave very good step by step instructions on how to place components on a form, but did very gave very little information about how to implement them in to your program. This is a great book for a beginner, but if you have used C++ Builder before, you may want to try a more advanced book.

Good beginning, but leaves you without practical knowledge
This book was a good overview, but leaves you with a lot of questions in the end. The title turned out to be misleading as well, since I read it and understood it in a couple of days, not twenty-one.

To summarize, the book was a good introduction to visual programming, and the visual aspect of Borland C++ Builder, but did not discuss any practical applications in any depth. I found that it discussed a lot of how to "drag here, click here, enter your code here", but did not cover on what code you could put and where.

I also found it somewhat lacking in covering the VCL and Events. For example, the book covered on the fact that you could create drag-and-drop events, but not how.

A good beginners book, but I felt it belonged more in the "For Dummies" series than in the TYI21D's series.

An Excellent Start to C++ Builder
Teach Yourself Borland C++ Builder in 21 Days, is a thorough and fun book to learn C++ Builder. It will show you all the ins and outs, tips and tricks of learning VCL programming that other books cannot match. I am a self-taught, experienced Delphi programmer, who has read many books on VCL programming. If I had a book like this when learning Delphi, my bookshelf would contain a lot less books

Financial Advisor gives it thumbs down.
I have been a futures and commodities broker and investor for the past 11 years. I have also written three books on the subject. So when a friend of mine suggested I read Carleton Sheets autobiography I was skeptical. Rightly so. I read the book and was disappointed. The title overpromised and the text underdelivered. I really felt I was going to gain some indepth and serious insight into how to invest in real estate and some tips and tricks on what it means to buy no money down. Instead I got a two hour "book infomercial". The self congratulatory attitude and the constant brow beating of this book is not enough, but buy my several hundred dollar courses or attend one of my several thousand dollar seminars deflates the whole experience.

There are other ways to use leverage, I do it everyday using the ideas in my book Futures For Small Speculators, and make money, Mr.Sheets doesn't even show you his way...unless you want to pay extra for one of his seminars. Utterly disappointing.

Real Estate Investor gives it 2 thumbs up
Of course I have seen Carleton Sheets infomercials numerous times over the last 18 years. The fact that he has lasted this long while so many others are gone says a thing or two about the guy and the success of his system. What Carleton is teaching is essentially what all successful all etate investors have done to amass wealth and tax deferred income via real estate investing. He has his own variations, but none the less, it's allt he same and what's more Sheets admits it. Carleton Sheets admits that the first man to use these techniques was Mr. Zuckendorth but Sheets did the most to popularize them. Sheets has written a good book on real estate investing replete with nothing down strategies, an overview of real estate investing, testimonials and much more.

Real Estate-The World's Greatest Wealth Builder by Sheets
This is an excellent book for anyone desiring to purchase
a property as either a first home or a vacation home. The purchase
of a property on "nothing down terms" requires a lot of very
meticulous verification work. Carleton's book points out all of
the opportunities and pitfalls. Basic terms are defined clearly.

Carleton reviews the "nothing down" techniques for acquiring
a property utilizing other peoples' money. There are various
ways to accomplish these techniques. For instance, suppose
you locate a motivated seller who will give you a note for
a portion of the purchase price. Assume that the house has a
loanable value far in excess of what you will be paying.
In this case, you can acquire a house with nothing down
because the financial institution is well-protected by the
value of the home. In estate sales, you can acquire the
contents of the home , as well as the home. In foreclosures,
the seller (usually a financial institution) is looking for
someone to assume the mortgage so that the monthly maintenance
costs will no longer be assumed by the bank. Sometimes,
you can literally roll over a property by acquiring it and
selling it immediately at a much higher price. There are
government homesteading programs wherein the government
will give you the property just for living in it for a period
of time. There are special programs which provide 50%
discounts for teachers and special discounts for the disabled.
Carleton Sheets covers most of these programs in his works.
In addition, he sells a "Nothing Down" series of workbooks
which outline the process on pre-designed worksheets.
The HUD (Housing and Urban Development) Website has a description
of many of the government programs. There are special programs
for veterans and the home-business utilization of a property.
Due to the favorable foreign exchange rate, homes in Canada
are cheaper. Carleton's book on "Real Estate-The World's
Greatest Wealth Builder" is a good place to start investing
in real estate. When you look at a property, you should bring
an experienced plumber and electrician to advise you on
the applicable code. In addition, keep in mind the structural
requirements in a house. Money spent on an experienced
"home inspector" is money well spent. The government has
low cost earthquake insurance for homes in earthquake zones.
Lastly, you should look at the town or county inspector's
books in order to find out about previous violations,
fires and other reportable events on the property. Real Estate
is a good investment because the social security allotment
will not cover everything in your retirement. In addition,
people change jobs and the pension vesting is not always
continuous. Real Estate can help you to make up the difference
in your personal investment portfolio and planning.
In instances where a house requires fixing, the HUD provides
Title I loans up to $15,000 for fix-up expenses. These loans
are at a very low rate of interest.

The work is worth every bit the price paid because mistakes
in this area can be costly and lawyers don't always provide
a comprehensive assessment of the critical issues involved in
purchasing individual properties.

not a book I would recommend
I would not recommend this book and here's why: 1. The book does not go into enough detail for a beginner to understand the parts being described or how they operate. 2. For an experienced mechanic, they will understand what is being described but will already know the information being given.
To summarize; the book is to advanced for the beginner but is not advanced enough for the experienced mechanic. Also, the hints and tips given in the book are not very informative nor are they secrets that most honda tuners don't already know.

EXACTLY WHAT THE TITLE SAYS! NO STUPID ADS
very very helpful book from start to finish. I've been a honda lover for years now and I'm getting a 99-00 integra GSR soon and this is what i bought to help me build a fast street car. It has tons of pictures (some not very helpful) but overal good stuff, and best of all, you wont find one ad in this book which is a plus! I agree with some people who wrote a review on this that this is more of a informational book and not so much a "how to do it yourself" kind of book so if you're looking for a how to book this isn't for you. If only Joe Pettitt can come out with a coresponding how to book it would be nice. One other thing that would have been nice is if he included a performance parts list where he lists the mid to top parts required and estimate price on a honda/acura engine buildup. Overal great informational guide.

excellent book...
As a beginner, I find it hard to find books and information that I can decipher to gain information from. This book did have a few technical terms that I wasn't sure about, but went on to explain them later in the book.. This book is excellent for anyone who is or is wanting to get into Honda tuning. All engine aspects are touched upon, some more than others. Overall, an excellent book!
