Designing and Building Your Own Frameset: An Illustrated Guide for the Amateur Bicycle Builder
Published in Hardcover by R Talbot (June, 1984)
Author: Richard P. Talbot
Amazon base price: $32.95
Average review score:

A very good book that deserves that 5th and 6th reading.
The author took a reasoned and careful approach. The fundamentals of fitment and physics as concerns bicycling are discussed first. The methods of manufacture are covered, followed by in depth, step by step procedures. For me, this resulted in several good reads, and a completed bicycle frame

A good book but expensive.
This book is a glossy well illustrated guide to building an electric guitar.
It has lots of wonderful tips and great pictures of guitar making. The book has terrific information on tone woods,Pickups, and guitar wiring.
The one critism I have of this book is that it reads in parts like a commercial for STEWMAC I agree that they are great suppliers of guitar parts and and and all the tools anyone would ever need to build a guitar.Does the author really have to appear wearing one of their branded aprons.
Do your self a favour buy the Melvyn Hiscock book it is a little more comprehensive and is written with a bit of humour and style.

If You Know Nothing About Homebuilding, Read This Book.
Dr. Householder's book explains the in's and out's of home building. He takes you from the ground up in an informative, insightful look into the process of estimating the cost of your next home. When I first used the book to estimate a house, I knew very little about the process of building. Dr. Householder's explaination of this very detailed process helped me to realize all the work and decisions that went into home building. He presents all of this information in a very straight-forward manner. He provides the reader with simple and easy to use methods. Dr. Householder's book will teach you all you need to know about residential estimating.

Pattern book of 16th-18th century fences: stylish/practical
This looks like an 18th-century pattern book for wooden fences, down to the typography and spelling. But it was written only a couple of years ago by Harrison, who collected and documented old fence designs. It's very stylish, yet practical. It does not, on the other hand, cover 19th-century style or the use of modern tools and paints. This is the book to get for stylistic ideas, but if you don't know woodworking, you'll need another one (e.g. K. Geist) for the nitty-gritty.

George Pullman; Young Sleeping Car Builder.
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (June, 1963)
Author: Elisabeth P. Myers

Good primer on Pullman
I found this book to be a great primer on George Pullman's life, especially when he was younger. However, given the hatred towards him by his employees, I think some of the content needs to be changed as it depicts he that he was loved by all. Good book, though.

Herreshoff of Bristol: A Photographic History of America's Greatest Yacht and Boat Builders
Published in Hardcover by WoodenBoat Publications (January, 1990)
Authors: Maynard Bray and Carlton Pinheiro
Amazon base price: $49.95
Average review score:

A tantalizing photo-biography of the boat-building company.
HERRESHOFF OF BRISTOL, is a loose biography of a company, told in text and photographs. The lives of the company's primary players, John Brown Herreshoff and Nathanael Greene Herreshoff, and those of their children who were involved with the company are included as they relate to the evolution of the company, and the boats they built. It is fortunate that members of the family were photography enthusiasts, Agnes, Nathanael Jr., and Katherine Herreshoff DeWolf, as well as employee Tom Brightman are noted as primary sources of the photos. Of necessity, the biography of people is limited, and that of the company seems to be focused on events with good photographic record. The famous boats built to defend the America's Cup are given due, but not excessive, space. In all, the volume whets the appetite for more detail: of the feats of engineering, the evolution of boat and yacht design, the non-nautical enterprises, and the personnal lives. It cannot deliver all this, ! and there is little else to look to other than visit the museum in Bristol, Rhode Island. If you admire inspired engineering, proficient historic photography, and boats in general, you will greatly enjoy this book. Those like me, hungry for further detail, will find it tantalizing, rather than truly satisfying.

good info
This book gives a detailed description of the organ history in the US. There were a lot of facts that I haven't heard of before (like the German organ-building tradition through the Moravian Brothers). But do not expect glossy color prints in this book; it is - in the reviewer's opinion - not for the organ enthusiast's coffee table, it is a well-written reference.

Wright and Fallingwater
Frank Lloyd Wright advised in his autobiography that "no home should ever be on a hill"; instead, it should be "of the hill, belonging to it." Just as gestalt theory described the holistic connections between figures and backgrounds, Wright emphasized the interdependence of an architectural structures and their surroundings. It is said that he always decided the site before considering a building's style, its spatial orientation, or the materials with which to build it. Of all his projects, there may be no better example of that than Fallingwater (c. 1938), a small but elaborate home in the woods (commissioned by a wealthy Pittsburgh department store owner named Edgar J. Kaufmann) in which the building is embedded in the landscape, making it inseparable from the waterfall, woods, and cantilevered rock ledges of its location. While much has been written about Fallingwater as a completed structure, less has been said about its preparatory drawings, the friendship between merchant prince and master builder, and the dozen projects that Wright and the Kaufmanns intended to build (few of which were ever realized) from 1934 until the architect's death in 1959. This is the full-color catalog for an exhibition of fifty of the more than 600 Wright drawings for projects commissioned by Kaufmann, which opened on 10 April and continues through 3 October 1999 at the Heinz Architectural Center at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. (Copyright by Roy R. Behrens from Ballast Quarterly Review, Vol. 14, No. 4, Summer 1999.)
