A geat mystery
Fred Taylor, agent for art collector Clayton Reed, returns to his Boston home after a failed trip in Paris because his employer rejected a high bidding on a Sargent. At Logan Airport, the man standing in front of Fred collapses. In the confusion, Fred inadvertently picks up something while trying to help the unfortunate person. Later Fred arrives at Clayton's house, only to realize he had accidentally taken a portfolio that looks very medieval and expensive.

Clayton wants to keep the find, bless his larcenous nature, but Fred wants to return the folio to the rightful owner. Word leaks out about Fred's find and a spectrum of individuals ranging from legitimate collectors to cranks and crooks want the folio with some of the protagonists not concerned with the method to attain the prize.

Nicholas Kilmer knows how to tantalize his audience by describing one of the most beautiful artworks in the world that this reviewer would love to see. Readers also get a glimpse at the avarice and shady dealings that impacts the art world. Ethics is rarely seen, as infighting is the norm. LAZARUS ARISE is a seriocomic mystery that sub-genre fans will enjoy.

Outstanding "parkay" pictorial of the "leprechaun" era
The book provided visual effects that made me feel as though I were back in "The Garden". Lazenby captured the season with key shots, statistics and critical discriptures that the fan requires with-out the opportunity to personally wittness the event. Well-done!

A wonderful novel
This understated, beautifully written novel ranges over three decades in the life of Meg Mowbry. Elaine Ford covers a great deal of complex emotional territory -- how people change, or fail to change, over time; how long-ago actions and events continue to shape our lives; how we understand many of our own choices only in retrospect. But what's most amazing about Ford as a writer is how economically she accomplishes all this, and how skillful she is not just about which details to highlight, but which to leave out. After I finished the book I found myself missing Meg -- and even more, I missed the sound of Elaine Ford's quiet voice, making sense of life.

You'll hop in your car before you finish!
Susan Wilson has done a wonderful job writing essentially a "travel" book in an approachable and compelling style. Her instructions and "trails" are clear and logical and take you into some of the prettiest areas in Boston and the surrounding towns. Yet while she is directing you in and among the alleyways, Wilson manages to weave a compelling history of characters and places that has you heading for your local library to check out long-forgotten authors. I've drawn up a whole "Boston" reading list to reacquaint myself with some old friends and maybe make some new ones.

The Guide to doing Boston's Literary Past and Present
Susan Wilson's guide not only takes on the 19th century period when Boston carved out a revolution in the world of ideas - and separated US culture from England, but it takes on 400 years of a multi-cultural Boston Literary History, from black 18th century poetess Phillis Wheatley to WEB DuBois and Kahlil Gibran.

It is well written and usuable. It helps you to find these places in the Boston area, and at the same time locates them in their place in Literary History.

It lets you know where the current bookstores are in Boston as well. It is really usuable, as well as readable.

Insightful history of this stunning neighborhood's growth
While academic in its approach, von Hoffman tells the colorful story of Boston's political landscape -- shifting away from the independent neighborhoods toward the centralized city government. Von Hoffman focuses on the growth of Jamaica Plain, a city neighborhood which began as a group of country estates on rural Jamaica Pond and transformed by the late 1800s into a dense, vibrant streetcar suburb surrounded by the lush parkland of Frederick Law Olmstead's Emerald Necklace. Most fascinating are the chapters on neighborhood society and the struggle over the construction of the Emerald Necklace. The author ends his analysis in the 1920s, leaving the abandonment of the neighborhood and its late-century revival into a dynamic, ethnicly diverse, family-friendly city neighborhood for a later book. This text is used by Von Hoffman in the class he teaches at Harvard University.

Perfect for First Timers and Short Stays
We would have never made it in Boston without this little book! The maps alone, especially the subway map, were worth well over the price of the book. We took the book everywhere we went and had a blast. It offers great advice about what to see, what not to see, places to shop, places to stay, places to eat, and anything else you can imagine. I also liked that it gave information on day trips to surrounding areas. I would recomend this book to anyone visiting Boston for the first time. We were there for two days and were able to see everything we wanted to see!!

A great story of approaching middle age...
...with nothing to show for it, except a dream of winning the Boston Marathon. Anyone who has struggled with accepting the responsibility of adulthood -- marriage, children, a "real" job -- will appreciate Myle's desire to escape by running everywhere around Cambridge and Boston, with an obsession that borders on madness. I really enjoyed the way this book blended hilarious situations like Myles "sleep-running" through the subways at night with the dangerous and dark ways his obsession jeopardizes his marriage, friendships, even his own physical and mental health. I highly recommend the book!
