Tapply is great!"The Dutch Blue Error" is the 2nd novel in the Brady Coyne series. Ollie Weston owns a unique stamp that is named the Dutch Blue Error by stamp collectors. It is worth around 1 million dollars. When a Mr. Sullivan calls Weston to tell him that he also has a copy of the Dutch Blue Error, Weston knows he must have it to preserve the value of his stamp, so he calls Brady Coyne in to negotiate a deal to obtain the stamp. A deal is struck, but Mr. Sullivan doesn't show. It turns out that Mr. Sullivan is dead. Brady must try to find the stamp, and Sullivan's killer. In the meantime another murder victim is found. In this novel, Brady has a law student, Zerk, working as his secretary, and Zerk is a very likeable character. This is an excellent mystery with a strong plot and a touch of irony. A real winner!

An excellent book! This book can best be described as an extremely long Boston Globe article on the Celtics by Dan Shaughnessy. Shaughnessy covers many tidbits in the book. Many interesting things about the old Boston Garden, Red Auerbach, and the team. Overall, an excellent read for a new Celtics fan (old ones as well).

Marvelous! Lost our copy to our Fall Colors Tour guide ladyI'm ordering a replacement copy of Fodors Exploring Boston & New England (97 version). It did such a good good of supplementing our tour guide's very good materials, that she was going to get her own. She was nice, so we gave her ours. Wonderful blending of short synoptic items, great selection of points of interest, and excellent photographs with additional two-page extended essays on pertinent subjects ranging from early Americana to Native American gambling institutions. Very attractive and lively layout, good indexing, and very informative.
The text is not burdened down with lots of places to stay, eat, or pay for entertainment. But suggestions abound in separate compact sections at the back of the book. Good maps. Very convenient size.
A great book to point you in the right direction, then to bring back the memories.
Both my wife and I give it a 10: which means it does an excellent job of satisfying both right- and left-brain appetites for information on this marvelously rich region.

The Low-Down on the High-Toned Poets of the Boston FiftiesIn this juicy, lively memoir of the Boston poetry scene in the 1950's, Davison dishes the dirt not only on himself but also on such luminaries as Robert Lowell, Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton and Robert Frost. The decade of the 1950's was a time of delirious creativity for these poets perched on the threshold of fame and notoriety, and at the center of the vortex sat Robert Lowell, brilliant teacher, mentor and model of the wounded artist. Davison's group portrait shows men dominating these mythologized poetic years with the women cajoling, wheedling and flirting to be noticed, and then, once they had the men's attention, stepping forward with fierce work to be taken seriously. As readers will see, Plath and Sexton were up to any challenge and left behind for posterity both their great works and tales of their wild vamping exploits. Although Davison makes no secret that everybody in the group drank like fish and acted out with impunity, he ultimately celebrates those years as the apex of his social and creative life, a time populated by people of immense charisma and talent. The book is simply a love letter to the difficult geniuses of one of the great moments in 20th century American literary history.

A very informative, very fun book about Fenway and the SoxThis book is fantastic. It is a photographic history of Fenway and the Sox. One of the things I liked best are the different photos of Fenway and its players throught the years that I havent seen elsewhere E.g: A photo of the ground breaking ceremony, side by side shots of the entrance (1912 and 1991). Ted pitching, the park set up as a football field (for the Patriots) and Boggs looking at a called strike. The text is excellent with lots of historical facts. Now I'll get to the best part. Remember pop-up books as a kid. Well this book has a detailed pop-up model inside. 1 inch=80 feet. It's all there; The Wall, the numbers, the bowling alley, and even the Citgo sign. This book will amaze the Fenway Fan

A must-read for any Sox fan!If you're looking for an entertaining, informative book about New England's favorite team, you've found the right book! Loaded with hundreds of interviews with players, managers, and even a few devoted fans who saw the action from the stands at Fenway, this book tells the story of the triumphs and near-victories...and the bitter, heart wrenching defeats. Yet through it all, a sense of optimism for the future remains, as Red Sox fans cling to the annual mantra "wait till next year."

Can't Put it down!I love the series! But Fire By Night was one of the best I've read out of 13! The book was very exciting. The authours make you feel like you are really in that time your living like the people in the book. I sure felt like I was really in it! I like it because it tells you a story that is Ficitional but at the same time it tells you about history and God. I think every one should read these books even adults! The book was very good!

Fire in Boston's Coconut Grove
Published in Hardcover by Branden Publishing Co (February, 1987)
Amazon base price: $15.95
Average review score:

Fascinating, informative, well-writtenI read this book back in 1984, when it was first published. I have since re-read it many times. Mr. Keyes writes an in-depth account of the tragic fire in Boston's Cocoanut Grove nightclub and the reader is drawn into the story almost as if he or she was there watching it unfold. Of particular interest to me was the fact that in the preface, Mr. Keyes paints a scenario of what Boston (and indeed, the country) was like during 1942. For those of us who are baby-boomers, reading about such things as mail being delivered twice daily and women never venturing outside without hat and gloves represents a fascinating peek into history. I searched amazon.com hoping to find more books about the Cocoanut Grove fire, but there seems to be only this one and Paul Benzaquin's book, Holocaust. I can recommend both, but I enjoyed Mr. Keyes' book more.
