For the true urban explorer
Ms. Morgenroth has truly explored the Boston area to offer this cornucopia of choices of restaurants, markets, and shops in ethnic areas of the city and its surrounding areas. She explores such diverse areas as the North End and Coolidge Corner and even makes forays to lesser-known places such as Watertown's Little Armenia and East Cambridge. A must for the urban walking tour enthusiast or anyone who enjoys ethnic food and experiencing the beautiful city of Boston. The only guide to the city that truly takes one beyond the historic sites, museums, and affluent districts to unveil the true city. Highly recommended for the "off the beaten path" traveller or the Bostonian who wishes to discover more of their city.

Great Gift for Baseball Lovers!!
Anyone who loves baseball will love this book. It's a fascinating tale about the early development of baseball and its transformation into the modern-day game, and of the game's first World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Pilgrims. (They later became the Boston Red Sox.) In addition to providing highlights and statistics on the Series, which was won by Boston, 5 games to 3 games, the book is packed with illustrations and original photographs. The book also provides a bibliography for those who wish to read more on the subject. It makes a great gift for youngsters who are just getting interested in the game.

IF same as I read 20 years ago, it needs to be reprinted NOW
I haven't seen this little pocket version that I am remembering for about 20 years. If any one out there knows the book and can confirm that my memory serves me well, I would appreciate it. I 'think' it is a recap of a weight control program tested on the Boston Police Dept.; a high protein diet that had amazing group results quoted within the text. Lists of do/don't groups and sample meals were listed. Does this sound familiar to any one out there? Hope I am right as I have Amazon looking for a copy for me now. IF I am right, with the resurgence of the protein diet versus the low fat phenomena (that we now have years of research not necessarily proving the results once proclaimed as well as a 'fatter' US than ever before) the helpful alternative offered within the Boston Police Diet is an easy to practice eating discipline that should show back up in print also.

The Boston Renaissance: Race, Space, and Economic Change in an American Metropolis
Published in Hardcover by Russell Sage Foundation (June, 2000)
Authors: Barry Bluestone and Mary Huff Stevenson
Amazon base price: $49.95
Used price: $24.96
Average review score:

A superbly researched, written and presented history.
The Boston Renaissance: Race, Space, And Economic Change In An American Metropolis is the detailed story of how Boston was transformed from a city with declining manufacturing base, depopulation, and racial unrest back in the 1970s, to the confident, multicultural, high-tech industry oriented, prosperous cosmopolitan city it is today. The authors draw upon a wide variety of historical and contemporary resources to explain Boston's impressive rebirth and redevelopment, and vastly improved ethnic and racial co-existence. Still very much a work in progress, Boston's story could well serve as a template for other troubled communities, large and small, anywhere within the confines of the United States as we progress through the first decade of a new century.

The Boston Tea Party
Published in Hardcover by Oxford Univ Pr (T) (June, 1964)
Author: Benjamin Woods Labaree
Amazon base price: $13.95

The best account
This book has aged remarkably well. First published in 1964, it remains the best account of the Boston Tea Party in or out of print. In fact, it's something of a classic. It's easy to read, tells the story in all its complexity (which involves going beyond Boston to look at how opposition to the Tea Act played out in Charleston, Philadelphia, and New York), and places the "tea party" in the larger story of the American Revolution.

Corbett Continues to Please
There are only a handful of poets that I await new volumes to see where they have been, what have they been doing since their last volume. William Corbett is at the top of that list. His poetry is as rhythmically close to music as words are allowed to get. Corbett has slowly, carefully created a world. This is ordinary life turned into art at its highest most articulate pitch. This fine new book has been worth the wait.
