A must for sculptural reference
I finally had to buy this book because I've borrowed it over and over from my local library. I find the biographies to be fascinating and the photos are magnificent. It is an excellent reference for me as a sculptor. I give it my highest recommendation.

Learning History Made Intesting -- and Fun!
"The American Revolution" is the 11th book in the "American Adventure" series. So far, my nine year-old son and I have taken turns reading aloud the first 14 books in the series. Although the books are aimed at 8-12 year-olds, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to the engaging stories. "The American Adventure" series is historical fiction at its finest! This is definitely NOT the dry, boring, dumbed-down stuff of my school years...

Readers will "experience" history as seen through the eyes of girls and boys their own age. Combining "The American Adventure" books - numbers 6 thru 12 cover the American Revolution --with a couple of non-fiction books, such as the excellent "Brown Paper School USKids History: Book of the American Revolution" (ISBN 0-316-96922-2), your reader will have a very comprehensive knowledge of this period in our country's history.

From the back cover of "The American Revolution" -

"Stephen Lankford and his cousin, Anna Allerton, are shocked when they see a group of men dump a shipment of tea into the Boston Harbor. Then they overhear a British admiral threaten revenge as a result of this "Tea Party." Soon all of Boston is suffering.

Stephen's parents and older brother are Patriots, willing to risk everything to gain independence from England. Anna's parents are Loyalists, who feel honor-bound to support the king. When Stephen's older brother, Will, asks him to spy for the Patriots right in Uncle Cuyler's shop, Stephen is torn.

Then Anna discovers what Stephen is doing. Will she report his actions to the British soldiers? And will the approaching war destroy Anna and Stephen's families?

A faithful replica edition
After dealing with many books dedicated to the "Arrow", I almost stumbled on this unique pubblication, and it was great surprise.

The book is a reprint of 1958 Aircraft Manual; actually the preliminary operating instructions of the J-75 powered Arrow's prototypes. In fact the procedures reported in the text are the provisory checklist , since the testing phase was in full swing and the civil and military pilots were expanding the flight envelope. Nevertheless, every main subject is presented ( similar to a final production aircraft manual ),along with noteworthy documents. Many technical details are available, covering aircraft systems, equipments, normal and emergency procedures, aircraft data and diagrams, perfomance charts and flight envelopes at 3 significant altitudes. Maybe this is the definitive book on Arrow's aircraft data and the best complement to any study describing this cutting edge design and his untimely cancellation. Indeed, the Arrow was exceeding the RCAF specifications during the test phase with provisionally powered prototypes , since the production was planned fitting with Orenda Iroquis engine. The new powerplant itself was living up with perfomance expectations, being successfully tested in flight with a modified B47.

Curiously, in the foreword the author explains that the original instructions were classified "secret" and iussued to both company and military pilots.Someone will speculate ironically that the classification was not intended to preclude intelligence by foreign agencies, but to hide the program achievements from Canadians to justify its demise.

Wonderful watercolor selections
I don't currently own this book, but it's number one on my Christmas list! I have reached multiple renewal limits at the local library with this title. The large number of artists included in the book provide a variation in painting style as well as informative text regarding the artist and his/her work. The color plates have been well chosen to give the reader an appreciation for the masters of watercolor painting. I have returned again and again to Awash in Color as a reference for my own paintings.

A Gripping Read
Mark Costello's debut met with vast amounts of critical acclaim, which naturally set up a high level of expecatation for his next work. Fortunately he doesn't dissapoint as he delivers the truly gripping and well conceived story of Ray Dunn, a gifted assistant DA, and Manny Manning, an overly effective narcotics officer.

The story opens when Father George Sedgwick is found murdered on an airport runway. As assitant DA Ray Dunn works to solve this grisly death, his investigation begins to intertwine with narcotics officer Manny Mannings growing battle against a new wave of powerful drugs just beginning to hit the streets.

As the characters troubled backgrounds are revealed, and the plot races towards it's thrilling conclusion, you can't help sitting up late into the night to finish this great story.

Highly recommended for anyone who likes crime novels, but is looking for something more intelligent and original. Not your typical cookie-cutter story of murder and drugs, but a great work from one of our times up and coming great authors.

A Great Reference
I have had this book in my architectural library since its publication. I refer to it frequently as the primary source for information on the early 19th century architecture of Boston. We are fortunate that the authors are literate and the photographers sensitive and that this piece of architectural and social history has been recorded.
