Excellent boys' story
My 12 year old son, ...loved reading this book. I planned to assign him to read 1 chapter a day and expected the usual struggle to make him read it, but he loved it so much that he finished it in short time and kept telling me what a great book he thought it was. He just didn't like when a dead character came back alive to fight Rolf, or the witchcraft parts, but otherwise wanted to read more books by this author...

Icelandic treasure
Allen French has translated some of the old Icelandic sagas, including GRETTIR THE STRONG, but this is a novel, using some of the locations and settings and even some of the characters of the sagas. I first encountered this book at about the age of twelve, read it many times, and always wanted a copy. The story has plenty of adventure, some interesting twists, and is a good read, but it also deals with how to face adversity and the danger of pride. It's an excellent book for teenagers and adults will probably also enjoy this story.

An excellent saga
The Story of Rolf and the Viking Bow is one of the best recrafted narratives I have ever read. Allen French brought to life this story that he originally found as one of the Kolbieters. (The Kolbieters, founded by JRR Tolkien, was a group of friends that read ancient verse in their original languages.) I would recommend it to any history buff, Tolkien fan, fantasy reader, or just any one looking for a well written story.

Compassionate, honest and compelling look at our lives
Each day we are faced with decisions and events that shape the way we think, behave and what we believe - James Robison addresses several topics that influence who we are and what we believe regarding faith, others, our country and life.
James challenges the reader to think about the moral absolutes that our country was founded on - this book is for people of all walks of faith - this is not a "heavy" political book but more of an enjoyable read - with a history in both the political and religious industry James encourages the reader to make an impact in life by examining what we believe and how we live....

A MUST READ!
I highly recommend reading this book. I literally started it on the plane ride to my vacation this year and could not put it down until I reached the end. As a businessman, I found it useful to read a book that identifies truths that are obvious but overlooked. James Robison does a superior job of explaining why the absolutes are important and how they can be identified in our society and finally how they look in action. This book delivers the strongest kind of message because it does not instruct the reader on what conclusions to draw but proves the truth through a logical sequence that delivers the reader to the obvious conclusion. There could not be a better time in America for this book: Everyone should read it!

Charming
Beautifully bound with expert craftsmanship, the brown, blank, "Anything Book" makes a lovely addition to any book collection.

The brown cover is a warm and satisfying hue, suitable for placement on virtually any writing desk or in a shoulder bag. At 160 pages, the thickness of the book is ideal for the writer with a lot to say, and has plenty of room for growth for the writer that doesn't. And with dimensions (in inches) of 0.62 x 8.31 x 5.64, it's hard to deny that this book is the perfect size for a wonderful travel journal, or a stay-at-home diary, to rest comfortably on your nightstand.

The pages are of a substantial thickness, so even your heaviest pen's ink won't bleed through. The pleasant girth of the pages also allows for non-stick page turning, and there's plenty of texture, so licking your finger to achieve maximum grip is not necessary.

Also available in black, green and burgundy.

The perfect book... yours!
These books are great for writing any thoughts, poems, or stories you want to share. Plus, it gives it a good look. You can even write in pen and it won't bleed through because the pages are very durable. Perfect journals, also. A great gift for anyone who loves to write or sketch!

Best Journal I've Found
I purchased one of these journals 3 or 4 years ago, and I've long since filled it up and moved on. Since there's no content in this book, I'll comment on it's "feel." It's a good size, as are most of the ones listed under "blank books" as subject words, for travel or storage in a briefcase or handbag. The cover is not soft; rather, it's kind of like a football, if you've ever held one. Hard, but slightly giving, with a rough but not unpleasant texture to it. The lines are well spaced and there's no "frilly" art/design on the pages, so it's equally suited for a man or a woman.

A Writing Staple at a Nice Price
This "title" is actually a blank book , a book to fill with your own thoughts, stories, poems, pictures, pressed flowers, etc. It's not lined, so if you like to sketch or draw, like i do, you'll love this book. It's sturdy, hardback, with smooth clean white paper, ink doesn't bleed through the pages ( a must!) oh, and it comes in different colours, too, black, blue, green, etc. I tend to gravitate towards the classic black, or green. Very professional. and so cheap too!

This story is actually about just plain bravery
This book teaches more than just being scared to lose a tooth. I think the main theme of this story is bravery. Arthur brags that he is "Captain Fearless," but both sibings(even Arthur) have a fear of something-Arthur is scared to lose his first tooth-and Violet is scared of the dark. But when the treat for dessert is taffy apples, Arthur doesn't want them because of his loose tooth(and his fear to pull it out), so Violet decides to make s'mores but has to go out in the dark to get sticks to make them-and faces her fear, so Arthur decides to face his fear-and chooses to be the,"Captain Fearless" he calls himself so pulls out his tooth and then he IS able to eat the taffy apples as well as the s'mores. In other words, this is a great story to teach about any kind of bravery!

The other Arthur experienced the other tooth-losing feeling
The lesser known Arthur character, created by Lillian Hoban. Many people may know Marc Brown's story, "Arthur's Tooth" about Arthur the aardvark, but they may not necessarily realize that each Arthur has a different message. One is about being desperate to lose a tooth, the other about being scared to lose a tooth. I actually prefer Lillian Hoban's Arthur the monkey over Marc Brown's Arthur the aardvark, so I purchased this book as well as other Arthur the monkey titles. This one reminded me of when I was scared to lose my first tooth. Plus this one teaches how to make taffy apples and s'mores, and tells how the s'more got its name on page 62. If you wish, buy the Marc Brown book listed above, then buy this book and compare the two feelings of each Arthur character. However, if you are particularly interested in this title, beware of trying to obtain a book club edition through a school book club which has this title listed, as you may accidentally get sent the Marc Brown title.

Great for Kids and the whole family!
I got this book and another by Maxwell, A Paw Island Christmas. After reading those with my family I got the Mixed-up Pup. These are great books, very easy to read and most enjoyable. The music on the CDs was wonderful. I checked out the web site, pawisland.com, and the kids can't get enough of it. Defintely looking forward to more by this author.

My Niece Loves the Books
I got copies of all the Paw Island books, and my niece lovesthem. The artwork is fantastic, and the stories very engaging foryoung children. We ended up getting her all the little plastic characters she liked it so much. Get the book, you will be happy you did. END

Heartwarming, Inspiring Story
Boxes for Katje is an excellent story that illustrates the idea that sometimes all it takes is one person to bring about changes - something we should strive to remember.

An inspirational story grounded in history
Written by award-winning picture book author Candace Fleming, and based on the real experiences of her mother, Boxes For Katje is an uplifting picture book whose story is set in Holland after World War II. The war has left behind immense devastation, yet Katje's pen-pal from America has sent a package that is part of a goodwill effort to help the people of Europe. An inspirational story grounded in history, Boxes For Katje is wonderfully enhanced for young readers with the artwork of Stacey Dressen-McQueen.

Buddy is the best
We got this book for my son when he was 8 months old. He didn't like it at first but now we have to read it for him every day. He will pick it out even though its under a pile of other books. He loves the short story and the colorful pages. He will touch the glitter spots as we read the story to him over and over and over again. A definite keeper!

captivating first book for baby
My 9 mo old absolutely loves this book! Beautifully illustrated with glitter elements on every page. Teaches good morals. Rhyme is lilting and pleasing. Lots of primary colors and lots to talk about on every page.

Simply wonderful!!!
What more can be said about this book, then simply wonderful? It's a great story, that is enjoyed by children and the illustrations are just as captivating. Enjoy!

A family classic!
I have had this book since I was very young, and it has always been one of my favorites. I always found the story fun and entertaining as a child, but now that I'm a bit older, I realize that I still enjoy it. The story is enjoyable, but the illustrations are wonderful also. Highly recommended!

Wonderful book on the Plantagenet Dynasty (1216 - 1377)
Hallam ptovides us with a wonderful book on the reigns of Henry III, Edward I, Edward II and Edward III. Each of the reigns is examined in detail with a series of essays written by experts in medieval history. The 113 essays cover a wide range of topics and provide the reader with a vivid history of Europe from 1216 - 1377. Contemporary chroniclers tie the book together. This beautiful book contains over 235 illustrations (in color and black and white), five detailed maps and a genealogy chart showing the interrelationships between the English, Scottish and French Dynasties.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in medieval history.

Excellent
I read the British edition and found it fascinating. This book is for the general reader interested in English medieval history. It is not a scholarly piece of work, hence it is easier to read and more entertaining. Every aspect of the life in medieval England (and a little of France) is covered as well as the rule of the Plantagenet dynasty. There is lavish use of photographs and colorful illustrations which brings all the information more into perspective. I highly recommend it for general reading.
