Peter Claus and the Naughty List
Published in Paperback by Dragonfly (09 September, 2003)
Authors: Lawrence David and Delphine Durand
Amazon base price: $6.99
Used price: $5.16
Buy one from zShops for: $2.49
Each Christmas, Santa's son, Peter, has the unpleasant task of checking the lists twice to see who's been naughty or nice. Destined for his second stint on the naughty list, Peter questions the fairness of the system. Still, "I didn't make the rules," Santa says. "But you know what they are." Peter certainly does--but he doesn't have to like it. This year, he's taking matters (and the reindeer reins) into his own hands, and for the small group of perfectly nice Naughties around the world, this may just turn out to be a bountiful Christmas after all.

This original tale from author Lawrence David and illustrator Delphine Durand, the imaginative creators of Beetle Boy, celebrates those brave rebels who won't stand for injustice. Peter is no rabble-rousing scoundrel, though. He's just a goodhearted boy who occasionally goes astray. But, as his wise old dad says, "All people do naughty things once in a while. It can't be helped. Saying you're sorry is what matters most." Durand's quirky, stylized illustrations feature sausage-shaped dogs, TV remote-control wielding reindeer, and chip-off-the-old-block-shaped-dad Peter Claus, with endearing sticky-outy ears and blond Beatles-style hairdo. Charming Christmas Tale for Young and Old Alike
What do I love best about this book? Is it the whimisical illustrations? The wonderful story? The infusion of myth and merriment into a charming tale that will please both young and old? All of the above!

This story is deliciously naughty and nice with Santa Claus' boy going to help the naughty children of the world explain their bad deeds, but along the way, he discovers something about his own naughty antics.

This should be heralded as a classic, right along with Rudolph and Frosty.

A Lesson in Naughty and Nice
This story about Santa's little boy, Peter, teaches readers a lesson about giving. Peter tries to help the naughty children of the world and helps himself as well. This Christmas story is entertaining while it teaches an important lesson about the true meaning of Christmas. It also teaches "naughty" children everywhere that there is hope for them if they do something nice for someone!

Wonderful
With a happily contorted version of the Santa Claus mythos, Mr. David has made a delightful story with a great outlook on human nature. This book is a perfect antidote for those who run screaming when being force-fed the mantra that 'Polar Express' is a modern Christmas classic. It avoids cliche, makes one laugh, and has the admirable quality of having likeable characters, including the independently-minded hero.

A true omnibus
This book helped me learn to knit in particular, although that's only a fraction of what it contains. But since that's my area of experience, just let me tell you that practically any sort of knitting I decide I want to tackle, there's something in this book to send me on my way, with a treasury of stitch patterns for textures, cables, and lace, advice for working in the round, working in color, everything I could ask for, and that's just the knitting section!

My one complaint is that in some ways, at least the edition I have is a bit out of date: it referred to fingering weight yarn as "4-ply." Still, a small price to pay for such a useful book.

One of the BEST general needlework books ever written!!
This is one of the best of its kind. I have a very good Better Homes and Gardens Needlework book and of course the Reader's Digest Needlework Encyclopedia (I've forgotten their exact titles). I also have one by Anchor/Coats and Clark. This is as good as any of the above. It even has a small segment on frame knitting...something none of my other books has. The pictures are beautiful, the instructions clear. All diagrams are easy to follow and understand. This is a GREAT book for your needlework collection!

A must-have book for crafters ! Helpful pictures, too !

really informative book, nice photos
Nice color photos, easy read although there is so much information and names, one can get confused on who is who and what company they started and worked for. Covers the complete history of the phonograph and the records that play on it. Explains how it came about, all the patent wars between people and technology that changed the phonograph early on. Nice sized book, easy to handle, easy read. Beautiful color photos of phonographs of all types. Lots of information. Worth having if you love old phonographs.

Comprehensive History of the Talking Machine
This book is the size of a coffee table book, but you can actually read it and learn something. It is difficult to find a good history of the phonograph, especially the business history of how it developed. This book fills the bill. It also features a large number of clear photographs so you will know what the author is talking about. If you are interested in antique talking machines, or need a good coffee table book, this is a good choice.

A great book
This is truly a remarkable book. If you are interested in the subject of phonographs and how they got started then this is the book for you. It is filled with the history of the phonograph. Especially interesting was the story of how Nipper the dog came about. You can't go wrong with this book.

Truly Perfect
This engaging emotionally resonant book is the perfect present for any child getting ready to go to camp!! The second book in Jacobson's fabulous Winnie series takes Winnie and her best friends from home away to summer camp, where they meet the challenges of balancing new friendships with old beautifully. Winnie struggles with how to define herself and how to reveal the things that make her different from other kids. In other words she learns to be herself- Truly Winnie. Jacobson weaves these important emotional themes so perfectly into a fun story line involving all the sparkle and splash of summer. The relaxed charm of Geis' illustrations match the story perfectly. The reader is swept along rooting for Winnie who learns and grows from every experience. I can't wait to see where Jacobson takes Winnie next!

A WINNING SEQUEL! JACOBSON SCORES AGAIN!
This charming sequel to Jacobson's WINNIE DANCING ON HER OWN explores Winnie's personality--and longings--even more deeply. When Winnie, Zoe, and Vanessa take the End of the Alphabet Club on the road to summer camp, Winnie must confront her need to belong while allowing herself to expand her circle. Caught in a lie of her own making, Winnie tackles her ethics along with her expanded definition of self.

Perfect for read-alones, read-alouds, and second, third, and fourth grade classrooms! Teachers and parents take note.

Another Winning Winnie!
Jennifer Jacobson has done it again with her second Winnie book. Here's a real girl character - a loyal friend, a feisty personality, and, at times, a girl painfully unsure of herself - who young readers can relate to. In this book, Winnie goes off to camp and gets herself into a real mess. Even as Winnie tell lies upon lie, we're always on her side, just waiting to see how she figures out how to do the right thing and tell the truth.

This book made my life so much more sane!
As a mother of 6 children, I am always looking for better ways to do things.

My kids have always been pretty good kids. They are naturally helpful and happy, but this book has helped me to reinforce positive behaviors in my children even more.

It comes with a gameboard that sticks to the fridge, and little magnetic pieces. We had to get some extra pieces, since we had 5 kids playing the game and only 2 pieces that came with it. We just got some little magnets from Radio Shack, which work great.

Here's how it works: each left-hand page shows a negative behavior (such as a kid throwing his dirty clothes on the floor) and on the opposite side is the positive behavior (the kid putting the clothes in the hamper). No words -- just the pictures.

This may seem boring, but my kids have spent HOURS perusing this book, ON THEIR OWN, and discussing the actions with one another.

We use the game by moving each child's piece forward one square everytime they do something helpful and positive. We don't "punish" for negative behaviors, just reward the positive ones. When they get to the end of the game they get a prize -- I keep a box of books, candy, little toys, etc., that they can choose from.

This is a WONDERFUL system and a WONDERFUL book. Anyone with a houseful of children could use this one! (I imagine it works just as well with one or two kids, too.)

Fabulous book for teaching children of all ages!
This is a well-drawn book illustrating both the right and the wrong way do do countless things. It presents the concepts in a clear, humorous and easily understood manner that should hold the interest of even very young children (in this case, 4 years old). As a teaching tool, it is fantastic!

Exciting and fun! An entirely new concept in "reading"!
A terrific family book! An easy way for parents and grandparents to show kids the differences between right and wrong. I've never seen a book done entirely in concepts before. There are no words. It has cartoons that show kids being bad on one page, and shows the appropriate good action on the next. The cartoons are very well done and easy to understand. This was a great book to share with my grandson! We laughed over the antics of the cartoon characters. He decided he wants to play with the game board shown in the book to win rewards for being good! What more could a grannie ask! This book is terrific! If you're a parent or a grandparent, DON'T MISS IT!

Black Dolls: An Identification and Value Guide Book II

A Collector's Jewel
This book is a must have for anyone who collects black dolls. It is the reference book that gives insight into your personal treasures. In it I found dolls in my collection I have a greater appreciation for, seeing them listed as well as finding their monetary value.

The cream of the crop for black doll collectors
Once I decided to expand my doll collection I needed reference material for identifying my "babies". I've combed the book stores, internet and so far Ms. Perkins two books are the best source of reference in black doll collecting available. There are other books out there but not as comprehensive. What is still surprising I have a number of dolls that were not included. That means Mrs. Perkins must be planning Vol. III. I hope so!! And thank you!

The first of its kind on this subject, quite informative!
Black Dolls, an Identification and Value Guide by Myla Perkins will open up the world of black doll collecting to its readers -- particularly if the readers did not own black dolls as children. Those who possess an interest in black dolls and thirst for more knowledge thereof, are certain to perceive Black Dolls as a satiable quencher of this thirst. Even those who have possessed little to no interest whatsoever in black dolls will develop a peaked interest in them after reading this informative book.

Black Dolls informs readers of the multitude of beautiful black dolls that were actually in existence during and predating their childhoods. It further informs readers of the types of black dolls available at the time of its publication in 1992. This book may, in fact, prompt readers to undertake an avid search for black dolls of varied mediums from varied periods of manufacture.

This well-written, extremely informative book that contains hundreds of pictures to help readers identify black dolls, as well as accurate pricing information, bears the responsibility for this reviewer becoming the proud owner of many of the dolls it identifies, describes, and values.

Not only does Black Dolls provide identification and value information for black dolls, it also gives reverence to them. Black dolls and black playthings play an extremely important role in a black child's development of positive self-esteem; this first-of-its-kind book proclaims this importance.

Reviewer's Final Comment: After reading Black Dolls, an Identification and Value Guide, the reader will also want to purchase Black Dolls, an Identification and Value Guide, Book II, which further identifies, values, and incites one's interest in black dolls.

Required reading for the serious collector.
I consider Mr. Monek to be the "world authority" on walking sticks and canes. I've managed to make a very good living in the antique cane business with his expert guidance. If you're investing your hard earned money in this "tricky" industry you better have this book.

Kan(e) you dig it!
I'd been looking for an authoritative Kane "Bible" for some years now (I spell Kane with the "K" as the ancient Cameroonians did). This book not only met my Kane needs, it exceeded them. I was doing a article for a local paper on Kane usage in the Depression years. This answered all of my questions and gave me the insight to write my Hufnagle Award For Journalism winning article (named for the late great Earnesto Hufnagle). The is a must buy for any Kane enthusiast!

What an incredible book--it told me everything I needed to k
I learned what type of canes are valuable. What an amazing book! It's so thorough! Very well researched! --Stacy S., Houston, Texas

A tribute to heroes!
I picked up this book simply because I was interested in pricing my comicbook collection. Imagine my surprise when I read the wonderful editorial on heroes (both real-world, and the four-color kind) as well as the moving tribute to those heroes of the 9/11 tragedy. I highly recomend this book to everyone!

New and Improved!
If you are looking for a great price guide to price out your comicbook collection, then this is the book for you! Fair, realistic pricing, and fine editorial content as well

An excellent upgrade to an excellent price guide
As always, the Team of Malloy, Wells, and Sodaro bring sanity and clarity to the multi-tiered world of comicbook prices. This guide has consistently ranked as one of the best price guides on the market. Malloy truly has a handle on what stuff is truly worth. This edition is especially relevant in the post 9/11 world, as it contains a pair of stirring tributes to "Heroes" (both the four-color and the real-world kind). I heartily recommend this book
