An unrealistic moral tale
This book is preachy and poorly written overall. Alex is an irritating and unrealistically "cutesy" character, and the plot of the story is jumpy. The painfully obvious moral component of the book strikes the reader as being manipulative; Alex lies about her shoelaces which eventually leads to her being unable to pray... Tiresome. The beautiful and subtle work of an author such as Patricia St. John is much more spiritually sound, and makes for a better read. Stay away from this novel.

Don't Miss Shoelaces and Brussel Sprouts!
Shoelaces and Brussels Sprouts by Nancy Levene

Have you ever lied and ruined your tennis shoes because of it? Well Alex did in Shoelaces and Brussels Sprouts by Nancy Levene. Alex is a third grade girl who tried to save Jason's turtle and instead ruined her tennis shoes.

I liked this book because it shows what could happen if you lie. When you lie the story gets bigger and bigger and eventually you get caught.

I think the author wrote this book to show that you shouldn't keep lying. I also think the author wrote this book to show that you should tell your parents if something is wrong.

A Great Book!
This is a really good book, because it deals with lots of important issues that most children worry about. It talks about the power of God, and what believing in him can acomplish. I would recommend it to any Christian, along with the other books in the Alex series.

Musings from thelinenlady on '20th Century Lace and Linens'
As a long time linen lover and now professional dealer I find this tombe to be a wonderful 'picture' book ~ but when it comes to actual informative content I feel that there are better sources ~ the information given is helpfull for the beginning to intermediate collector and the pictures are exquisite but somehow the lack of detail in the narrative portions undermines the supossed purpose of the book. To its credit the book is nicely arranged by subject but lacks a comprehensive glossary. Overall, not a bad place to start whet your appetite for knowledge about vintage linens, but if you want detailed informtion supported by anyting more than cursory research you will put the book down hungry. ~ Sincerly, Ann Christine ~ thelinenlady

Very helpful and informative reference book.
I found this book to be extremely helpful in identifying popular linen styles and items for a collector. The pictures were clear and the descriptions sufficient for my needs. This is a good addition to a collector's library.

Lace collectors will find this beautiful and enjoying!
Faboulous color photos from Appenzell to Tatting, and How to maintain a collection. I highly recommend this book if you love lace!

Arthur's Tooth
Arthur's Tooth by Marc Brown is a book that any kid that's about to loose a tooth would enjoy. In this story Arthur is the last to loose a tooth. He feels behind and awkward for it. Everyone tries to help him loose it, but nothing ever succeeds. Finally, Francine, the bully of the group, that hassles Arthur for not loosing a tooth yet, jabs Arthur in the mouth, and knocks his tooth right out!

Arthur was my favorite character in this story. Arthur felt embarrassed that he had never lost a tooth before, and while everyone else was loosing their baby teeth, his was just getting loose. Poor, innocent Arthur. But at the end he shows them that he's no different. Read the book to find out the details!

Losing A Tooth
Another great book from the Arthur series. The book is about Arthur, the last student in the class to lose his first baby tooth. Some of the other students in the class make fun of Arthur, because he still has all his baby teeth. Other students try to help Arthur's tooth fall out, but nothing works. Finally an accident causes Arthur to lose his tooth. This book teaches children to be patient and to help their friends. It also teaches them that everyone is different. I really like this book.

We LOVE the Arthur books!
We are first grade students at the Anna Merritt Elementary School. Our teacher did a Marc Brown author study. She read Arthur's Tooth to us and we loved the book. Javeon and Cory liked the part when Arthur wanted to pull out his tooth with his hand. Nicholas and Jacob liked the part when Arthur lost his tooth. Marissa liked the part when Francine knocked Arthur's tooth out. We hope Marc Brown writes a lot more Arthur stories!

Book should not be used to determine value of pieces!
This book contains nice photographs. However, the prices of pieces are unrealistic. Some quotes seem extremely low and other extremely high. The author doesn't mention the condition of the piece when quoting prices The greatest factor the effects the price of pottery is the condition of the piece. A price should never be given without a discription of the condition of the piece. The book would be a nice reference for a novice collector. But price information should be ignored.

STAFFORDSHIRE SPANIELS:SUBSTANTIAL TEXT & BEAUTIFUL ILLUST
This terrific book traces the history, manufacture, and various styles of the traditional Comforter Spaniel made in Staffordshire, England during the 19th century. It is a comprehensive study with substantial text and beautiful illustrations, and it is written in a style that keeps the reader turning pages. As a collector and dealer, I have found this book to be extremely useful - I can't keep enough copies in my store, and I keep it at the top of the stack on my coffee table at home. This is a perfect reference and a perfect gift for anyone who appreciates the primitive beauty of the well-known Staffordshire Spaniel. Be sure to check out its companion text, Staffordshire Animals, by the same author and publisher!

A Great Read with Lots of Info and Beautiful Illustrations
This book, the only one I know of that deals specifically with Staffordshire Spaniels, is an invaluable reference for collectors and dealers alike. It offers a wide range of over 285 superb full-color illustrations, descriptive captions, and suggested values that reflect various market and regional trends. The book is packed with important historical and production information. Sections on reproductions and tips for collectors round out this comprehensive and informative study. This is NOT just another Staffordshire picture book or boring catalog of image after image. This specialized book offers so much more. The author's writing style is reader-friendly and touched by the sense of fun that Staffordshire collecting is meant to be. Synonymous with Staffordshire figures, Spaniels are the quintessential Victorian decorative accessory -- no Victorian interior is complete without at least one pair, and no collector or dealer's library is complete without this book! Enjoy!

No present values included.
The statement "A Schiffer Book for Collectors with Values" is mis-leading. I took the "values" to mean pricing and there are none in this book. A rather useless book for me in pricing items for sale.

Remarkable amount of dinnerware represented in this book.
Lot's of good photos and information - amazing amount of dinnerware shown in one book. Nicely done! Worthwhile investment for dealers and collectors of dinnerware.

Orel Hershiser gets personal
Orel Hershiser was one of the most dominant pitchers during the 1980's and 1990's. He won over 200 games, he posted season ERAs of 2.66. 2.03, 2.26, and 2.31, he has 13 double-digit victory seasons and he helped the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series in 1988. During that magical season he won the CY Young Award, the NLCS MVP and the World Series MVP. So it is safe to say that he is qualified to write a book on how to be successful in life.
In his second book Between the Lines: The Nine Things Baseball Taught Me About Life, co-authored by Robert Wolgemuth, Hershiser writes about how his experiences in baseball taught him about perseverance in life. Although Hershiser stared in the Majors, his rise was not an easy one. He had to overcome many obstacles early on in his career. He was stuck in the minor leagues for four years and he had to come back from serious shoulder surgery in the prime of his career. Hershiser also talks about personal miseries with him dropping out of college after getting cut from the baseball team and then later in life dealing with the death of his good friend and agent Robert Fraley. The book was an easy read and Hershiser offers some very good advice about life or at least on how he became successful. The book is not organized chronologically but instead Hershiser and Wolgemuth headline each chapter with his principles of life. Readers looking for play by play analysis of his career will be disappointed with Between the Lines because Hershiser takes a more personal account of his life in and out of baseball. But overall the book taught me things about life and inspired me to strife for my goals not only in sports but in life.

Baseball Lessons & Life Lessons are the Same!
Here's a book that in simple terms tells the reader about how overcoming the challenges in baseball are similar to those that average people encounter in life. I think that this would be a good book for young people who may be in team sports. It can help them see the greater benefit of playing sports rather than being caught up in winning and losing. Being from Los Angeles, I have a little more awe for Orel Hershier, who for a period of time was the best pitcher in the game of baseball. I hope that other mature athletes in football and basketball do books like this so that our youth can gain the full benefit of being in sports. I hope that parents buy this book for a Christmas present for the young athlete in the family.

Beware: Grandma is DEAD!
I was so thrilled to find this book to add to a book basket I am building for my parents who will become grandparents at Christmas time this year. My dad is interested in Habitat and at 9 months pregnant, online shopping is my best bet so I took a chance on ordering a book I had not read. I was shocked when it arrived to find that the Grandma DIES! This book ended up being totally inappropriate for my very ALIVE parents! It is an excellent story of giving and has relevent social commentary about giving and grieving, beautiful illustrations but do be aware that Grandma is DEAD!

A wonderful book for preschoolers and above
This is a wonderful book for preschoolers and above--combine it with a trip to the hardware store with your child to purchase tools for your local Habitat for Humanity and make it a true learning and giving experience.

A good book, but there are better ones
This book has a lot of questions and answers. Unfortunately, given the number of questions, quality is compromised. A better bet is the book "Quizzing," which is filled with interesting trivia.

AMAZING! 1
I just love this book! Every time I open it with either my cousins or friends, it's just always a new suprise! I definitely recommend this book for anybody! It's definitely a GREAT book@!

cute story, but The illustrations??
Very cute story. I love that backpack baby is riding on his DADDY! It is also wonderful to see that he is being carried, a nice switch from all the "stroller" type books out there. it is a very nurturing story. The illustrations in general are just terrible. All in all I would recommend the story to all families out there that carry their infants and want to reinforce that this is natural for many families. But I wish the pictures were as beautiful as the idea for the book was.

***

Cute Story
This is a very cute story that takes a look at the selfishness that every little kid feels, in a really fun way. Another reviewer comment on the illustrations which I personally thought were pretty cool, they have a very childish cut & paste quality. My kids get a kick out of all of the backpack baby stories

It's a good book but it's not a complete guide !
There are many collectibles listed in this book. Also there are good pictures and descriptions. However, some of the best Star Trek collectibles and memorabilia are the Star Trek Autographed Plaques/Items done by "THE SCORE BOARD, INC.", but unfortunately in this book there are not informations about them.

Comprehensive and Entertaining
This is a perfect look back over the decades of Star Trek collectibles and toys. It is well organized. Fans of only one series may go directly there and concentrate on those items. General Trekkers will enjoy browsing throughout. It is amazing how many items are listed. It is hard to believe a book would be misjudged on the basis of one small line of items so far on the edge of the field! Get this book!
