Says SOOOOO much in relatively so few words.....
This book really says in a very few words all we need to know about living a full, rich, peaceful, serene life.

The illustrations actually filled my heart with those same feelings, eliciting quite a response physically and heartfully.

Add the included CD and it is no longer a question, adding this book to your library is a necessity.

In fact, it would make a good coffee table book.....

The simple text acknowledges that the world is not perfect... it is blemished, and it is up to us to choose whether to "moan or sing" and whether to "count sheep or our blessings".

This will be one I will collect several copies to give away and keep around my house.

Touching and soul searching
I recently got to see and hear the story about this wonderful book from the author. He sang the song and accompanied himself on the piano, it was thrilling to hear the depth of feeling in this beautiful song. This book should be a holiday classic and be treated as a gift to all who read and hear it. The illustrations are beautiful and can be enjoyed by all ages.

AWESOME BOOK
Abuela's Weave is a very good, accurate book about how the Maya people actually live. I've travelled often to Guatemala and visited many villages. The pictures in Abuela's Weave depict life as it really is in the villages... the Mayan dress, the houses, work, animals. Very good. I read this book often to my 4 year old granddaughter and use the opportunity to educate her on Guatemalan culture and to teach her some Spanish. My cousin, Dominga Sic Ruiz, was born in Guatemala and adopted in the USA. We sell weavings made by the women of a village in Guatemala. The weavings go great with the book...hand in hand...to buy a weaving write to domingasic@hotmail.com Thanks. Mary P.

Woven with Love
A beautifully illustrated book written by Omar S. Castaneda who was born in Guatemala and teaches writing at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. The artist, Enrique O. Sanchez was born in the Dominican Republic and has worked as a graphic artist for Sesame Street. Together they create magic.

Esperanza is a girl who is learning to weave with her grandmother, Abuela. On the day of the Fiesta de Pueblos in Guate, they decide to reveal their work to the world.

"Esperanza, however, wore her favorite huipil: it was a white blouse with red, blue and green threads in the rectangular collar. Under that, the colors bled into silver and blue, and hidden within the intricate designs of the blouse were tiny quetzals flying freely in the threads the way they once flew in the great forests of Guatemala."

They have to take a bus and then finally they arrive in the city. Once Esperanza starts to hang up her work, people start to look at the elaborate weavings and some even take pictures. She sells all the items and her grandmother is very proud of her.

A loving story that follows in the tradition of Guatemala's legendary artisans.

excellent intergenerational sensitivity

Best Graniteware Book You'll Find
A teriffic book. Clear and well organized. My only warning to you is, don't expect to get the prices the book suggests. I find that 1/3 to 2/3 of suggested prices are more realistic for all but the rarest pieces.

Granite ware book 2
This is a must for the Granite ware buyers prices are great and great learning instruction of what to look for and how to tell if it is old or new I love this book and look at it often as I am looking on ebay alot. A must for the Granite people

Great for Beginners
I found this book very helpful as a new collector of Granite Ware. I especially appreciate the items being grouped by color for easy identification with the price values on the same page. Now I am searching to find some backgound information on the makers and enameling techniques.

an important book for parents to discuss with their children
I read this book many years ago and I still have a copy on my shelf. I think all parents who have strong feelings about nuclear disarmament should read this to their children and use it as a jumping off point to discuss nuclear weapons, war, and the impact that softspoken leaders like Mahama Ghandi and little Georgie (the book's main character) can have when our nations' leaders let fear prevail over morality. I also believe it reminds those who seek to use the flag as a symbol of blind patriotism and allegiance to American military actions that pacifists can be patriots, too. There is so much to carry away from this simple, but elegantly written book that an elementary or junior high school student can understand and appreciate... it certainly speaks to many of the issues that are being debated in the current political climate.

GREAT!
I just got this book out of the library, and it was GREAT! I thought it looked dumb, but when I picked it up, I couldn't stop reading. Georgie leads the march and they walk to washington, DC. Preisident Toby isn't real, but the author makes him sound so real! My favorite characthers are Georgie and Weezie. To bad this book is out of print.

Still sticks in my head after 15 years!
I read this book when I was a kid! And it still sticks with me after all these years. All I remember is this chick walks to washington dc. Pretty cool though. I'd buy it if I were you. Too bad it's out of print.

Good Adventure, Harry Potteresque
This series really complements Harry Potter. If you like stories about extraordinary kids, then here's another series - only the Christian or religious crowd would have no problem with the Gifted Girls Series at all.

The BEST GIRLS BOOK EVER I'm NOT Kidding!!!!
This is the BEST BOOK I've read in a long time!!! Better than the first book in this series. I want to read the next. VICTORIA LONDON --- PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE WRITE SOME MORE OF LUCY'S ADVENTURES! Don't keep me in suspense. No wonder why the Gifted Girls books are getting so popular!

Gifted Girls Rule!
I'm 13 years old, and I loved reading about Lucy. In the first book, she hasn't learn how to use her gift yet. But in this book, she uses it often. This book isn't all about being goody-twoshoes. Lucy faces temptation, dark forces, and even a sinister plot against her new friend, Queen Cleopatra. I'm not going to tell you how the story ends, but Lucy learns a lot more than she bargained for in this book. Good adventures and plot, I'd recommend it even to boys.

very sweet bedtime story
This beautiful picture book is filled with wishes that parents hope will come true for their children. Some of those wishes are I hope you will always be curious and I hope you will always be a part of a family. Reading this book to your child will let them know of all the love you have for them with in your heart. Wishes for You would make a great bedtime story for kids of all ages.

Wonderful!
My super handed me WISHES FOR YOU as I was going to the subway.
While reading it on the subway, I did not start weeping until:
"I hope you will love one special person more than anyone or
anything in the whole world," and then I did not stop weeping
until long after I finished the book and got off the train at
Queensboro Plaza. The not-starting weeping until that late
in the book was a commendable sign of self-restraint, I think,
considering how moving, authentic, and wonderful WISHES FOR YOU is.

may they all come true
A lovely and inspiring children's book with gorgeous illustrations that all children will love. I bought two more for the children in my family. Highly recommended!

A Fierce Little Tragedy: Thought, Passion, and Self-Formation in the Philosophy Classroom (Value Inquiry Book Series 147)
Published in Paperback by Rodopi (October, 2003)
Author: Herman Stark
Amazon base price: $36.00

A delightful find
I was wandering through the book store and I came upon this little book. The title caught my attention so I began flipping through it. It seemed like a good story, so I bought it. What a surprise! I am by no means a philosopher, but I think that the idea behind the story is one that all people can enjoy. I have had many professors that are as remote as Streng and always wondered if it would kill them to be a little warm, now having read this story, I think maybe it would. It brought to mind a saying my grandmother used to say: Often the ones that seem the most strong are the ones that are the most vulnerable. A very bittersweet and moving tale!

A page-turner that moves on many levels
A story you cannot put away until you have reached the last page. The relationship between the two characters is a little complicated, as are the emotions and thoughts of the Professor Streng character. The language is on an upper level, some words I never got, however, that did not stop me from reading the novel which turned out the BEST philosophy book I have ever read and understood (in part). The book is must for anyone interested in philosophy but who got stuck with a boring professor or loser textbook. Also, the fact that you get ethics, philosophy, logic, and history all in one book is more incentive to buy it.

A scrumptious slice of humanity!
I think that this book was really cool! The story tells a tale that all people, philosopher or average Joe, can relate to, and that is the fact that we all want to special to somebody, we all want to feel needed, accepted, we want to be wanted. It is very profound but the heart of the story is accessible because it is something that we all experience. I highly recommend this book, it's great!

Looking to spark your reluctant reader?
This book inspired a love of reading in my second grader. She ranked reading right up there with going to the dentist (no offense), until she got her hands on this book. The short, captivating stories seemed to fascinate her, and she begged me to order the rest of the series. I hope Bruce Lansky keeps up the good work!

Yeah!!!
This book was SO COOL!!! My favorite story was either The Fairy Godmother's Assistant, For Love of Sunny, The Royal Joust, orLian and the Unicorn. But ALL of the stories were awsome; I loved them all! Keep writing/editing, Bruce Lansky!!!

GIRLS TO THE RESCUE-TALES OF CLEVER, COURAGEOUS GIRLS FROM A
GIRL POWER! THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR ALL GIRLS! I AM A SECOND GRADER AND I THINK THIS IS THE COOLEST BOOK. ALL THE GIRL CHARACTERS ARE SMART, FUNNY , COURAGEOUS AND KNOW HOW TO THINK AND SOLVE PROBLEMS! I HAVE FOUND A LOT OF HEROES IN THIS BOOK!

You won't mind reading it three times a night...
This is a very sweet, humorous story. The watercolor illustrations are beautiful. My son enjoys counting the cats as they multiply.

I love this book!
I was browsing in the bookstore and came across Cat Up A Tree, and immediately fell in love with it. The story is cute and entertaining, but by far the best thing about it are the illustrations! They're very vivid, detailed and excellently done, I spent a lot of time just looking at them, so I know that my child is going to love them, too.

Definitely a great book for young children and those who read to them.

It was really funny!
I liked the part when the cats got stuck in the tree. I liked the part when Nana Quimbe called the town hall. It is fun to wonder what will happen at the end when mice flood the town.

Too much verbiage that isn't Seth
All the Seth books are worthwhile, arguably profound and life-changing, and this is no exception. At times Seth takes wing and, as usual, presents very original arguments ...at times with a concision and eloquence that itself suggests that Seth is an essence from another dimension (as he says he is). But the book suffers from too much comment (in footnotes and an epistle of an introduction) by Robert Butts, the husband of Jane Roberts and the person who actually produced the text dictated by Jane. Robert Butts seems not to realise that what he has to say is infinitely inferior to what Seth says...and yet Butts goes on at far too great length. Stick to Seth if you want the essence of these books.

Dreams, 'Evolution', and Value Fulfillment: A Seth Book
Having read hundreds of books on the qualities of consciousness, there are NONE superior to Seth's. My first book on the subject back in the 1970's was Seth and still, though many are fabulous, none compare to the DEPTH of Seth.

Seth's masterwork
Seth at one point referred to this book as his masterpeice, the one that all of the others have been building up to. The concepts that he tries to get across here are actually pretty simple once you get your mind to thinking that way--it's a way of viewing oneself, the planet, and the interconnectedness of all relationships (sentiant and otherwise). All of his books are profound, so it would be redundant to say this one is too (but it is). A story within the book is Jane's rapid and dramatic physical deterioration, and Seth's dictation at times takes a back seat to Rob's records of her physical and mental state, and his notes about Three Mile Island and the Iran hostage crisis. When I reread, I will probably skip the notes and just read the dictation, if only to get a clearer flow.
