Anything Book, Funny Pages, Ruled : Archie & Veronica

This is a great book . I think you should buy it.
This is an excellent book for age 5-1/2 and up. I rate this book four stars. Reggie is sometimes mean. But Moose is there to beat him up. I got into this book because my mom said it reminded her of me and my friend. We sort of acted like Betty and Veronica, because Veronica is sometimes mean to Betty. I am Betty and my friend Aria is Veronica.

I LOVE IT!!
ARCHIE COMIC BOOKS ARE THE ONLY BOOKS THAT REALLY CATCH MY ATTENTION. I HATE READING IN GENERAL, BUT ARCHIE COMIC BOOKS HAVE ME GOING. I LIKE JUGHEAD. HE IS SO FUNNY. AND MOOSE SO DUMB. VERONICA IS MEAN AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY TO BETTY, BUT I LIKE HER. SHE'S GOT CLASS. BETTY ON THE OTHER HAND IS DOWN TO EARTH AND VERY NICE. GOOD JOB!!

Integrity to Idealism
9/24/03 editors Greer and Kohl in taking from Courage(pg 15) to Love (Pg 411) and quotes from various source(s) on all conceivable character traits give a spontaneousness and charisma to characteristics that oft time appear to be "robotic"(e.g. 1.courage(Pg 15) :poet Shirley Kaufman "It's not what I wake up to but what I dream")or(e.g. 2. generosity (Pg 177): Eleanor Porter's Pollyanna "..of course you're glad to help Dr. Clinton;I should think being a doctor would be the gladdest business there was") or (e.g. 3:Compassion:"Our house has character, their's is rundown";"we are cautious, they are chicken";"our friend is the life of the party, their friend always makes a fool of himself after a few drinks"; "Our friend has written a book with a plot as light as a souffle, their friend has written a book with a flimsy plot".

A collection of wonderful excerpts illustrating values.
This book is full of excerpts from little- and well-known books with a soulful commentary behind each one. Characters from The Elephant's Child to Helen Keller learn more about themselves and their surroundings in bits and pieces that might help you to learn a bit more about yourself and your surroundings. Great for family readings or just to yourself or your child. Is also a nice chunky book to hold up bookshelves, if nothing else

Collector's Guide to Children's Books: 1950-1975: Identification and Values (Collectors Guide to Children's Books, Vol 3)
Published in Paperback by Collector Books (January, 2000)
Authors: Diane McClure Jones and Rosemary Jones

It's good .... but flawed
It's got a LOT of books, it's very inclusive, the colour pictures are a great help. BUT, it doesn't mention the British publishers of some books, which were actually published in Britain, before the (listed) US first edition. So, it's flawed, but still worth the (very reasonable) price. I intend to buy the 1850-1950 book.

A superly laid out collector's guide and reference.
Diane McClure Jones and Rosemary Jones tackle a weighty task in Collector's Guide To Children's Books 1950-75 V. 3 which surveys children's selected books from picturebooks to young adult. Pricing may not be exact but the inclusion of many rare items will give collectors a good starting point for identification and valuation.

THE COMPLETE BOOK OF FORTUNE republished
When my father, Richard Huson, as an editor for Associated Newspapers Ltd, first compiled this book in 1936, it was published under the title of THE COMPLETE BOOK OF FORTUNE. He drew on the expertise of the foremost exponents of the mantic arts of the time, and maybe because of this, the book retains its readability to this day. It is good to see a facsimile edition brought out under the imprint of Gramercy, even though my father's informative introduction has been replaced by a short, perfunctory preface by J.L.Smythe.

As far as overviews go, this is the one.
Touching on fortune telling in all it's many manifestations, The Complete Book of Fortune Telling is an excellent read. Suprisingly complete, it sated my small need for knowledge on the subjects of palmistry and graphology, as well as peaking my curiosity as to tarot reading and amulets. If your interest in fortune telling is sketchy or casual, this is THE book for you.

A nice book for your nursery bookshelf.
This is a nice addition to your nursery or reading room. The book contains 75 fables for teaching your youngsters about life.

The book is well bound and of good quality. What I really like is that it matches the other Disney books in size and style and so looks nice on the shelf.

The format of this book is very nice. The fables are adapted from Disney stories of years past and are categorized according to the moral.

Each story ends with a moral for you to go over with your youngster. The stories are accompanied by nice illustrations rounding out the whole experience.

Excellent resource for parents and teachers
I bought this book primarily for classroom use, as the fable format of this book is excellent for primary grade students. Characters and stories are familiar to students, and the illustrations are beautiful.

Each story begins with the moral, and the stories are categorized according to moral. The table of contents is wonderful for quick reference if the occasion merits it. This is a wonderful book.

Darren McGavin is Travis McGee, I guar-on-tee!
The impact of this trilogy of "colorful" books on tape by John MacDonald is a tribute to the gravelly voice of Darren McGavin. To be sure, McGavin has been an actor for decades, so it should be no surprise that he continually gives so much life to the text that it sounds just like you're listening to Travis McGee and his characters in person.

You are right there with them. McGavin breathes, chuckles, pauses, clears his throat, sighs, yells, whispers, wheezes, and indeed acts out all the parts. You can just about feel it when he gets slugged! Doesn't matter that you can't see him, because in your mind's eye you really can.

The three mysteries boxed together are all good mysteries, and the enjoyment of them comes from the fact that MacDonald has created a character who is so human that he is completely believable. The guy talks to himself, he wonders what he's getting into, why he got into it, and how he's hoping to get out of it! He wonders continually about relationships, and why it is that he can't seem to build a permanent one for himself. He is self-enlightened, he knows about his shortcomings and his strengths. Yet he is also genuinely concerned about the others who come into and out of his life.

I don't even have to tell you about the three mysteries, they are all very good, and a little heartwrenching. Read or listen to these and you will go back for more. Luckily there are numerous other Travis McGee mysteries to tackle later, some even read by McGavin!

Travis McGee scores with Darren McGavin's winning narration
I had read the complete Travis McGee series many years ago, and had recently decided to revisit my "beach bum turned knight in slightly tarnished armor" hero once again. Faced also with an interminable daily commute and inane radio chatter, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and order the audio package. Bravo! Propelled predominately by John D. MacDonald's elegant yet wistful prose and bolstered significantly by Darren McGavin's at times powerfully emotional narration, through my radio Travis McGee came to life as he never had before. The earliest fable, "The Deep Blue Good-by", written some thirty-plus years ago, suffers slightly from minor out-dated references, but rarely. "The Lonely Silver Rain", the last in the series, is completely relevant, perhaps more today than when written. Highly recommended and it's a sure thing that all the books in the series that have been rendered to audio will find themselves in my collection.

A Life Worth Living
I am a Speech pathologist and have been using this book in my memory group with seniors. A comment that occurs almost each and every time is the type is too small and too light. I probably will need to look for something different unless some changes can be made. Perhaps a large print edition. Paula Wax 206-326-3482

You can't pass this up!!!!!!!!!
Although this book is not yet available, I have had the pleasure of personally pre-viewing it. I was amazed at how well the questions stirred my thoughts and allowed me to recall my "yesterdays". Mr.Hawley has a great way of helping us remember even the most intimate details that we otherwise might have forgotten. This will never go on my shelf; it will remain open as I continue my journey through life. Thank you Jerry Hawley for your imagination and creativity.

Ageless & Charming
I just read this lovely little book, having not read it as a child.
The pleasure of reading it transported me back to a time when I enjoyed the simple, uncluttered pleasures of imagination and dreams.
This is a truly ageless tale - one that can just as easy be read by an adult for one's own childish enjoyment, as it can be read TO a child, for theirs.

Teacher's Tips, Using Wind in the Willows for Lit. Study
Tips for Teachers, my student's loved Wind in the Willows. They enjoyed the great characters and the humorous stories. However, use caution when using this book any earlier than 6th grade. The language can be difficult and discouraging for less advanced readers.

Great!
This is a tremendous piece of literature about talking animals, but it's much more serious than it sounds. It has many adventures in it, and it's fun to read. If you liked it, check out the sequels by William Horwood. He's also a great author.
