Wonderful! Captivating
My sons just received this for Christmas and already LOVE it. They have listend/read it over and over. The art work is just captivating! Mark Lowry does a great job at keeping the story short and sweet--just long enough for those with short attention spans! The story itself is great!

Very interesting.
I did not know much about the Plantagenet era before I read this book. It all seemed like a messy period that was plagued by wars and murders. This book made it easier to understand what happened between 1154 and 1485. A family tree in the beginning of the the book makes it easier to find out who is related to who.

Some very famous people were among the members of the Plantagenet family: I guess, most people remember Richard Lionheart and John Lackland from the saga of 'Robin Hood' while Edward I and Edward II were portrayed in Mel Gibson's film 'Braveheart'. (I realize that not everything in 'Robin Hood' and 'Braveheart' is correct.)

Other famous members of the Plantagenet dynasty were Richard III who many believe murdered his two young nephews, Henry V who had to struggle with Joan of Arc, and Edward, the Black Prince who is mentioned in 'A Knight's Tale'. You can read about all these people as well as many others in this book. There is also information about places and issues that were important during this era of time. I found it interesting to read about how the Jews were treated by the Plantagenet kings. Other interesting topics were the Crusades, Egypt, Joan of Arc and Margaret, the Maid of Norway.

I highly recommend this book. It is informative, has a good structure and it is easy to read. The many drawings and photographs make it even more interesting.

A Book for Every Thinker
This book is a must read for all who have opinions about Politically Incorrect subjects. Whether it is overpopulation, abortion or Gay Pride, the reader will be able to not only express (his)(his/her)(their) opinion more effectively but also appreciate the opposing view. Dr. Kainz effectively presents both sides of the subjects so that the reader has a better understanding of widespread disagreements in today's society. The result should be more tolerance (another subject he debates).

Postmodernism and the Holocaust
Chapter's five through fifteen of this excellent, well written, and thoughtful book, treat Hannah Arendt, Emmanuel Levinas, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Jean Francois Lyotard, and Anselm Kiefer's post-modern confrontation with the Shoah. All of these five post-modern philosophers regard the Shoah (Holocaust) as the transforming event that must not be ignored. All five regard the Shoah as a radical rupture, fissure, or break with everything that came before. The Shoah as "master rupture" is that historical event that separates modernity from post-modernity. The Shoah serves as a disconcerting portent, and alerts these thinkers to the danger potential genocidal worlds that can be brought into existence, especially under crisis conditions. The above five thinkers offer a critique of the limits of the modern enlightenment tradition which is seen in part to have spawned the Holocaust, with modernities marking caracteristics of technocracy, large state bureaucracies, technology, and reduction of everything to the utilitarian exchange mechanism. All five thinkers question whether the Shoah (Holocaust) is the logical outgrowth of modernity, and ask whether it is somehow inscribed in the very essence of modern enlightenment Western thinking. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Shoah is central to the concerns of all of the five above thinkers, who insist that philosophers cannot proceed philosophizing as if the Holocaust had not occured. This brilliant collection of thoughtfully probing and insightful essays should not be ignored.

The best book available on religion and morality
Sagi and Statman distinguish and discuss three different approaches to the relationship between religion and morality: (1) the strong dependence of morality on religion, (2) the weak dependence of morality on religion, and (3) conflict between religion and morality. This book is an excellent, balanced, and refreshing contribution to the ongoing conversation about the relationship between religion and morality. I highly recommend it.

Say the Magic Word
My 16-month-old daughter has loved this book for quite some time now. So much so that she learned to say "Arthur" before she learned her own name! It is clearly her absolute favorite amongst her many books. She first used this book to practice turning pages and enjoy the pictures. Soon she progressed to lifting flaps. For the last couple of months she has spent a great deal of time patiently sliding the playfigures in and out of their slots, developing her fine motor skills in the process. She has now become a big fan of the Arthur show on PBS. This book, and "Kiss Hello, Kiss Goodbye," go with us everywhere. We highly recommend both.
