To Thine Own Self Be True: The Relationship Between Spiritual Values and Emotional Health

AMAZING
I came across this book a few years ago and it gave me understanding beyond any book I've ever read. It was difficult to read at first because it was an overload of truth. In a simple yet very deep and profound way the author explains how we can overcome some of the most troubling emotions in our lives, emotions for which we often seek therapy or medication. Andrews exposes us to the fact that most of our emotional and pyschological problems are a result of intricate decisions and actions we make to protect a self that we really should just expose. And It's so much more.
The lessons in this book are real. It contains truths of which many spend a lifetime searching. Truths that are presented to us daily in life but for some reason we cannot come to an understanding.

A profound and practical book.
This is one of my favorite books of all time. Andrews talks about what he calls Ethical Therapy. His main point is that it is psychologically healthy to act ethically, to treat others well, to conduct yourself with very little pretense, to try to do what's right and tell the truth, etc. He presents considerable scientific evidence for this assertion (which you don't really need, because once you look at your own life through this assumption, you get plenty of direct experience demonstrating its validity).

For most of the book, he shows how a greater level of integrity can solve psychological problems. Each problem gets its own chapter. Chapter titles are: Beyond Depression, Beyond Guilt, Beyond Fear, Beyond Anxiety, Beyond Addiction, etc.

It is a surprisingly practical book. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I am an expert on what is effective. The suggestions Andrews puts forth in this book are simple, powerful, and extremely effective. I highly recommend this book.

Great for Beginners, tons of color photos, nice format
This book is great for the beginning aquarist. It had tons of color photos and the format is easy to understand, and the author is obviously experienced.

An excellent book for anyone starting an aquarium.
This book is great for beginners and even experienced aquarists. Plenty of color photos dealing with saltwater and freshwater fish, as well as aquarium plants. Interesting sections on how to decorate your aquarium with rocks and other items. Discusses correct temperature, lighting and specific needs of all listed fish and plants.

Hard-Working Heroine
Wanda is a real heroine -- a girl who works hard in the face of big odds. Yet, Wanda is also the kind of heroine who helps us think we can be heros, too. She relies more on creative invention than fantastic luck. The idea of growing roses in a vacant lot is both beautiful and realistic. The illustrations convey the eccentric colorfulness of the story's characters and ideas.

I like the pictures and how the story was written.
I liked the book because it was a good story. Some people may not believe Wanda that her bush would not grow roses. But, Wanda believed it. The book made me laugh. The pictures are the kind that kids like because they are cartoonish and colorful. By Rachel grade 4

A Most Valuable Tool
I highly recommend this book. In my work as a psychotherapist, I meet many women who have not yet come to terms with with their personal financial demons. A Woman's Book of Money & Spiritual Vision has provided me with a wonderful tool with which I can help them begin. The book is written in a personal style. The author shares her own story as she presents questions and worksheets to help the reader explore the dynamic of money in her history and in her day-to-day life. It can be used alone or with a group to help uncover the myths and facts behind one's financial attitudes and behaviors.

Women and Money: Despite Rumors, Made for Each Other
Rosemary Williams looks at money--crazy-making, delicious, necessary money--from every angle. She does the same with women's belief systems. Money is simple; it's our baroque beliefs that keep us from it. "Money is never neutral," she says. "It triggers powerful emotions and conflicting messages--especially for women. The 'money messages' we were taught can pop up at any moment, in decisions large and small."

This is "a workshop in a book" because that's how the author does her research. Her experience during years of leading women through the thorny underbrush of our misconceptions and false information could save the rest of us years of struggle and want.

A former banker and financial planner, Williams has constructed her book like a diary. This is one book meant to be written in, the pages covered in notes. I found that a relief ; somehow breaking that "rule" of my father's gave me the idea that other childhood "rules" were also about to be replaced by grownup liberations. It also called to mind the writing we do in school workbooks in the act of learning.

Something that may come as a surprise, says Williams, is that money and spirituality are not at odds. There are prayers and quotes scattered through this book. Somehow beginning this work by saying "Holy One, Sustainer of all things, give me the courage to look at my financial life with clear sight...." is a wonderfully centering process.

With "Women and Money" women can lessen their fear through dispelling ignorance, which is surely the root of all evil.

Yogacise
This is an excellent book for the yoga beginner. You can go at your own pace, and Vimla clearly demonstrates each move. It is very positive, very simply presented. I totally agree with the other reviewer, that a spiral bound book would be great, I place a weight on mine when I use it. I also agree with what the other reviewer said about a video being better to follow along if you are near-sighted...maybe Vimla will do a video for us! The main point I'd like to share is that the book got me started on Yoga, and feeling better about myself. Sometimes videos seem too long and hard, because they move along quickly, and this book as I said above, helped me practise at my own pace.

Great for beginners
I borrowed this GEM from my local library & found it to be VERY helpful for me...a beginner.

Vimla does an excellent job demonstrating each phase of the exercise with full-color photos. There are 5 different sections of exercises: Rise & Shine, Energizer, Ultimate Stretch, Classical, & De-Stress. (53 exercises in all) Do them all, or one section at a time. Go at your own pace & do whatever section you choose depending on your day.

The only setback I see to this book (or any Yoga book) is that I have to stop & re-read the instructions while trying to complete the exercise. (Being nearsighted makes it a challenge (or impossible) to stay in the posture & read) I'm sure that will reduce as I learn the movements. This is where having a video is a definate plus.

Shouldn't it be a rule that Yoga instruction books be spiral bound so you don't have a put paper weights on them??!!! (I hope this book will go back in print very soon...& maybe in a SPIRAL bound edition?)

50 recipies = 45 gems
Oh boy do I love this cookbook! The layout is the only way to go: recipe on one page, and photograph of the completed dish on the other. Lots of input for visually-oriented males (or females), but also no need to turn pages when your hands are covered with flour or whatever.

And the recipes are truly different. On the strength of this book, I bought another of the "50 Ways With..." titles, about chicken, but it turned out to be an endless procession of "boneless chicken breast with [fill in the blank] sauce" recipes.

I think I might have made all 45 gems. Let me give you a partial list of recipes that I have confidently made for the first time with company arriving shortly:
Baked Fish Nicoise: (startlingly light and tasty -- perfect for a female guest).
Baked Fish With Broccoli
Chili Con Pesce: (wonderful idea, but it needed a little adjusting)
Continental Fish Cakes: (I laid in 2 lb of fresh cod for four people, but could easily have gone through twice as much).
Fish Florentine: (one of the ten best things I've ever delivered to the table).
Fish With a Mustard and Herb Crust: After eating something similar at the Black Dog on Martha's Vineyard, I came home and violently tore into my cookbooks until I found this superior equivalent. Give the World's cod population three or four years to recover (this is 2003), then treat yourself to pure fish heaven.

Enough gushing - There is a dud. The Fish and Fennel Gratin just does not work at all. If I was crazy enough about the concept, I would bake the fennel "blind" for 25 minutes, then add the fish and topping and continue baking, but there are far finer things to pursue in this world, like the Old English Fish Pie. I have authority here, since I come from the Old Country, and this remarkably-simple recipe does an absolutely wonderful job of balancing fresh and smoked fish flavours in a dish that just vanishes as soon as it is set down on the table. My fish-hating stepdaughter inhaled about a quart of it before thinking to ask what was in it.
So, to summarize: Out of my 200+ cookbooks, this one ranks in the top ten.

Makes a Great Book Journal for Kids!
This is one of my favorite blank books and The Anything books have always been my favorite blank books but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any new ones and I think that maybe this publishing company isn't making them anymore. This book has a cute colorful jelly bean design on the cover and ruled pages and we use it for a book journal of the children's and young reader books we have read and it comes in very handy for all the info you need to put into a book journal and I sure hope that the RH value publishing company is still making these blank books and I like how they have ruled pages because it makes you write smaller and neater then when a blank book's pages are unlined. And another reason I like The Anything blank books so much is that they have more pages then most other blank books on the market. A lot more pages!

Book Journal
This company makes my favorite blank books and I bought this Crimson Glory blank book and used it for a romance book journal writing down all the information you would write in a book journal, Title, Author, Date read, comments, publishing company, etc and I liked this book and liked that it has a lot of pages and that the pages are ruled. Unfortunately I Haven't been able to find The Anything Blank books and the ones that I find in the book stores just don't have as many pages and the designs on the covers aren't as nice.

I Use if for a Romance Book Journal
I like to use blank books for book journals and The Anything Blank books are my favorites because they have the most pages of any blank books I have bought but unfortunately I haven't been able to find The Anything books and I hope the publishing company didn't stop making them. I have this blank book that Amazon describes as Greener Morn, it has a very pretty floral design on the front and back cover and the book as rules pages and I use this book as a romance book journal of all the romance books I have read, I did that after I had bought a book journal from a book store that is meant for old classic books and I wanted one for romance books but I couldn't find one so I decided to make my own and this book came in very handy for that and the ruled pages are great and force you to write smaller and neater then a blank book with unruled pages and I love how sturdy the book is and how many pages it has and out of the Anything blank books I own this one is my favorite and the pretty and romantic floral design makes this perfect for a romance book journal.

My Favorite Blank Books!
This is a nice blank book. The Anything Books have always been my favorite blank books and I like to use them for book journals to keep track of and a remembrance of all of the books I have read. This one is called Moonlit Garlands and has a black cover with a design of flowers, butterflies and ribbons and the book has ruled pages which is a must for a book journal. I especially like the Anything blank books because they have alot of pages which is another must for a book journal and I like them because the book itself isn't to small and isn't too big and the prices are reasonable but unfortunately I haven't been able to find them anymore and I'm wondering if the publishing company that made The Anything book aren't making them anymore or if they went out of business but I still hope that every time I go to a bookstore to look at the blank journals that I will find an Anything blank book!
