trashy teen novel
Being a high school librarian at 28 years of age, I think I can confidently say that this is a trashy teen novel that makes an attempt at telling a decent story. I too was drawn in by the magic of the setting having traveled abroad myself, but beyond that, I found the story to be rather flat and predictable. I don't think many of my students would identify with the girls' affluence and I think the cover was created to get a reaction. Angus, Thongs, and Full... is a much better read, as well as, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Don't waste your time on this one! Develop some taste! I got the book on preview from the publisher and I plan to send it back.

Entertaining
Follows the vacation (or "holiday") of teenaged British girl, Kelly. A rented house in Greece comes up only days before Kelly is supposed to leave on a hiking trip with her boyfriend, Mike. Well written. Really shows the personalities of the girls as the book develops. You'll fly through the chapters! I related really well to all of the girls. If you have a tee daughter who likes to read definately a good book to add to her collection.

I love love love kate cann...
When Kelly and her lover Mike have a spat about how to spend their gap year, they nearly break up before Kelly convinces him to take off on the van trip around Europe he planned with his friends before they met. Kelly accepts an invitation to share an antique farmhouse in Greece with two acquaintance schoolmates so different they almost make up one complete person - while Sexy Jade exudes confidence as a man-hunting party girl who doesn't deign to lift a finger to do the dishes while, sweetly shy Sarah suffers from depression and swings of domesticity. Poor Kelly struggles to keep the peace between the two old friends while regaining the identity lost in her intense relationship with Mike. Unfortunately, the delicate balance is upset when Jade comes upon Mike and his van full of buddies, and invites them for a visit. Comic trouble ensues.
Cann writes with deep honesty about friendship and love, and her portrayal of sex is gut clenchingly real. Highly recommended.

To Take A Dare
She's a run-away. Driven by rage and a passion to have a normal life, nothing can stop her. Who is this? Her name is Chrysta, a young 14 year old that is just trying to find a normal life or even a normal family.
This teen finds many friends along the way. Leaving some so thy can go their ways (but always communicating). As she travels about the country, she learns lessons, and the real meanings of things that weren't so important to her before. She grew up hard in the beginning, but she learns about herself along the way. This realistic fiction novel is sure to enter the lives of teenage girls.
This book was strait with the information. There were hardly any if, an's, or but's. You would think with all the description it had, it might have been real. I would defiantly recommend this book to teenage girls! It is so realistic, and makes you think, "Wow, this book could of really happened!" It's not one of those boring books that make you think, "When will this part ever end?"
Chrysta is constantly moving around to new places, more new friends, and even more life-long lessons. Page after page you knew you had to keep going. There was no stop. Many teens could of related to Chrysta during one of her situations in the book. So many events that happened, you would have to relate to one of them.
So do you happen to be a teenage girl with a thirst of realistic fiction adventures through the up's and downs? Pick up, To Take A Dare. You couldn't regret it. You're questions are sure to be, "Does she find her NORMAL life?" Maybe, maybe not. She may find other things just as important along the way.

Blisteringly honest story of runaway doesn't go far enough
Part of the blisteringly honest modern YA genre born of Judy Blume, which exploded in the 70s and 80s, "To Take A Dare" explores the unbearable pressures which lead up to Chris/Chrysta's running away from home, finding herself on the road, and the reasons why she attempts to adopt a young runaway, Dare, in an attempt to give him a true family. Fans of Dragonwagon's witty, funny, sharp and tender writing style won't be disappointed; Chrysta's word-portraits of the stifling suburbia she grows up in, her sadly frustrated family, her life on the road and her discovery of a true home in Arskansas, are all memorable. But Dragonwagon's view of life on the road, gritty as it is, with Chrysta's trading sexual favors for a lift or place to stay, is, in the end, terribly naive. This isn't the author's fault; any book about sexual trading pre-AIDS inevitably seems like apostcard written from the deck of the Titanic. But even minus the sex, life on the road for Chrysta seems a little too idyllic; something read and written about, rather than experienced. Like the obvious symbolism of "take a Dare," it is more read-about than real. But the portrayal of a young woman running to find and then defend her own standards and her own life is not easily dismissed. Dragonwagon's literary style and love of language lift this book above the typical teen-problem novel.

Very Nice Work
Nice book but defenitly not for young readers.

outdated
This book should be updated on a regular basis as the Doctor should know medications are changing quickly and his information is now outdated.

Doctors should buy this book too!
Doctors don't always know medication either. While vacationing in Annapolis a doctor over medicated me and I slept for hours. I hope he buys this book!

Do doctors really know their medications?
I think both patients and doctors should buy this book. I was once over medicated by a doctor while vacationing in Annapolis and slept for hours! I sure hope he buys this book!

If you like this cult I got a bridge to sell ya!
I agree with Jason, I was hoping for more secret information from Jesus but, the Prophets just ramble on about the Great White Brotherhood and the 7 who transended. More myth and yarn spinning if you ask me. I had to put the book down half way through and look for something more interesting and more intellectual. You would think that the Prophets would, by now, be able to publish a book with good grammer. Be prepared for run on sentences and a number of mis-spellings.

can't put it down
This book opens like a mystery which you just have to keep reading until it is solved! I loved the human voice and the simple way it is written, at the same time it discusses deep spiritual ideas. It's a way to self-transcend, and to me, that's awesome. I found this book is a great complement if you've read or are going to read "The Lost Years of Jesus" by the same author. The first looks at where he was, and this book looks at what he was teaching. A really satisfying book

the lost teachings of jesus
This book changed my life. For serious seekers of truth, the lost teachings awakens ones soul, there is no doubting the sincerity of Elizabeth and Mark. I can honestly say that after years of searching I found this book (which bypasses the fanatacism and dogma of religious doctrine) to go straight to the source of spiritual reconnection. My searching was elevated 100 percent and I have never looked back. I can only speak for myself ofcourse.Individuals who are perhaps ensconsed in dogma seem to react negatively.Serious seekers and lovers of truth however will find it a welcome joy and maybe even a way home.

Roger D. Blackwell, an Ohio State University marketing professor and Fortune 500 consultant, believes that nothing short of a "radical reinvention of retail" will suffice in the hypercompetitive marketplace expected in the future. From Mind to Market: Reinventing the Retail Supply Chain is his prescription for 21st-century success. His strategy involves getting into the heads of consumers, accurately anticipating their needs, and then quickly meeting them with effectively developed products and services. Blackwell illustrates his points with examples from companies that already employ such practices, including Kinko's, The Limited, and Banc One Corporation.
Average review score:

Nothing earthshattering. Could've been said in one chapter.
Somewhat disappointing read in that there really wasn't any synopsis at the end of the book to bring all of the cases in point and related ideas together to make a coherent "call to action." While the information presented is interesting, educational, and valuable, the concept of "demand chain management" is not all that radical. The fact the more companies do not engage in the practice is what's really radical! There is no excuse for not conducting rigorous market research and analysis and gaining an intimate understanding of the customer base being served (or disserved in some cases). Mr. Blackwell's information could have been summed up in a 15 page article in a respectable journal. There was no need to produce an entire book on this.

Listen to your customer! Is this the "radical" new approach?
There is nothing radical, or ground-breaking in this book. Contrary to what the cover or any of the previous comments may imply.. The basic (and almost the only) point is that "one should always listen to the customer," which is nice but not new or radical. No matter how hard you look, you will not be able to find any more "ideas" on retail marketing beyond this basic point.

Chapter 6 (Shifting Functions among Supply-Chain Players) has a very timely topic, however the content is extremely poor. Short of examples, Professor takes on the universities as inefficient supply-chain members.

Apart from being disappointed by the conceptual content of the book, I also feel fooled by the "real world" examples generously sprinkled throughout the text. In none of these examples, there is enough relevant knowledge to be able to say (at least roughly) this is how they did it. In fact, most of the descriptions of real-world practices are full with irrelevant knowledge with only one discernable purpose: To advertise a bunch of companies under the disguise of a serious book. That maybe why there are so many of those success (!) stories.

So, this book itself is an example of setting up too high and inaccurate expectations on the mind of consumers, and failing badly to abide by the implicit contract created by those expectations. It is a huge marketing mistake!

Finally, I must also mention that my faith in Customer Reviews has weakened tremendously. I simply cannot believe this repetitive dribble got all 5's!

(PS. Don't be fooled by its curious, nicely designed cover. It reflects a pathetic "brave new world" vision of marketing: People barcoded for collecting consumption information.)

Brilliant Insights to Parties within Demand Chain
This book shows a lot of cases quoted from customer-centric winning retailers. These are very realistic and helpful information to the parties related to supply chain. The expression by "Do the right things right" means the desired and normal management style. However a lot of companies are difficult to do so. "From Mind to Market " leader challenges to do so. This is a major key success factor. Finally, the case of Manco moved me too much. Because their customer services are not to be assumed cost center, but to be invested proactively. This is extremely excellent concept. Most of the companies don't think it right.

Beginners book
This book is for a teen or beginner starting their first expeditions into the world of songwriters. The book gives about a paragraph in every possible area of music starting with the history of man, but gives less info of use to intermediate or above levels. One glaringly hilarious inclusion is the suggestion that you can make a living as a musician in NYC but not elsewhere, or that a deal can be made on a handshake in the music biz. The section on the Nashville chart system is helpful. Take a look, but be sure to supplement with "Tunesmith" by Jimmy Webb, or any of the many other books by successful Hit songwriters.

Great Reference
The book covers all aspects of songwriting with easy reading and pretty good humor. Although aimed at the novice, there is plenty of good advice for those who think they know it all, but fail to follow the basics. I've bought several for friends, and they all gave it a solid thumbs up.

I Never Knew
I own about 50 songwriting books on different sub-topics. This one is the broadest look at the subject- it covers what any ten of the others do. It's not perfect, but if it was a thousand pages longer, it would be. I'm planning a trip to Nashville soon and this will be a big help!

Disappointing
Although there is useful information in this book, I was disappointed in it. For a book about boys, it reads entirely too much like a book about coping with a chomosome abnormality -- the abnormality being the Y chromosome. Her general thesis is that the Y chomosome causes boys to develop more slowly and to be more succeptible to many other problems. Her approach to the discussion is very biologically deterministic. I found the 1 chapter on little boys in RAISING CAIN much more useful to understanding what my 4-year-old son is going through than this whole book. She is a strong believer in holdling boys back a year from Kindergarten. If you are looking for arguments for keeping your son back, this book may be what you are looking for. The publisher claims that this is the only book of its type, focusing on the parenting of young boys. That appears to be the case, which is a shame.

The Little Boy Book
Marvelous! A tremendous source of information from disparate authorities, put together superbly!
My husband (a professor at Tulane) and I safely guided two girls through childhood, adolescence, college and graduate school. But nothing prepared us for our son. We knew he was not like the girls-we didn't know in exactly what ways until we read this book. We recommend it to all the mothers we meet in nursery school.

My Comfort Book
This book helped me raise three little boys born in two and a half years. From Diapers to trucks and fighting, I found what I needed to know in these pages. I am now sending copies to my three neices who have just had boys of their own. Truly trans-generational!

Delicious Reads
Julia Quinn has some wonderful novels... I gave this package four stars because Dancing at Midnight is my least favorite Julia Quinn book. It is funny but just doesn't have the delightful flair that her other books have.

Belle, Emma's cousin from Splendid, finally meets a man who doesn't fall at her feet over her beauty. He's definitely brooding over something in his past, but it doesn't keep the sparks from flying between them. This book has a litle more intrigue than other Quinn's books and sometimes drags because the characters are a bit shallow. However, there are some wonderfully memorable moments when Belle and Blackwood finally decide to marry. How many interruptions can one wedding take from a drunk priest to an angry brother... it's hilarious!

To Catch an Heiress has some of the funniest dialogue ever! It has some sexy love scenes that make this book sizzle a little more than other Quinn books. Caroline Trent and Blake Ravenscroft's romance involves a mistaken identity. Blake thinks Caroline is a spy. Caroline is trying to escape her fortune-hunting guardian's son and potential marriage to him. All in all, I laughed my head off throughout this entire book. It's a fast read. You will want it on your shelf because you will be re-reading it many times when you are bored or just in the mood for a delicious laugh.

A Great Book!!!!!!!!!!
My class is doing a novel study, and I picked this book! So far, from all of the books that I've read, this is probably my favorite one!Everyone Should read it. But it does put you in suspense alot!
Have fun reading!

Keeping Secrets
Ingrid Tomey, in Nobody Else Has to Know, tells an amazing story of a boy who, in just a few moments, messes up the life of a little girl, and his own. After an exciting day, Webber's Grandpa decides to let him drive the car, and in a moment of daydreaming, runs over a little girl. When he regains consciousness, his grandpa says that he was the driver. Slowly, as Webb's memory comes back, he remembers that he was the driver. Now he's confused and isn't sure what to do. It's a great story that shows that you can't keep things inside and "not tell anyone" about it. There are consequences for every action, and you need to live up to your own mistakes.

blader'z review
I think the book was very good because it felt like you were in the book with Webber. He went through many challenges but he made it through them. The story is sad and also at the same time exciting. Anyone who reads my review should check out this book.

Those 14 pages go quick
The illustrations are not very cute, the text is a bit too simple and the book is over before you know it. Unless you are a die hard paddingtion fan - just move on.

Classic for all ages
My toddler has loved this book since he was six-months old. He loves the pictures and rhymes on each page. It has been a constant favorite and we have read it together over and over and over again. A must have for any toddler's collection.

Great book for babies
My 1 year old loves this book, and so do I. It's simple, short, and rhymes--perfect for both of us! If you love Paddington Bear, you will want to get your littlest ones started with this book.
