A MUST for teachers!
Return to Stony Clove again. This time Eileen Charbonneau centers around a young girl who searches for her kidnapped friend. The friend is a free black woman who is captured and returned to a life of slavery. Young Lily Woods begins the hunt to rescue her friend. A touching story for all races to show how the underground railroad helped save many.

***Teachers should pay close attention to this one. Perhaps some should consider making it a required read sometime during the school year.***

An engrossing tale of courage.
This book brings the Woods trilogy to a close--one which the reader is reluctant to see! Lily Woods is 15 when she is forced to confront harsh issues diving the country in 1851. When slavecatchers arrive in the community, Lily learns that her family has been involved in the Underground Railroad. Lily decides to risk her own safety in order to help, only to find herself in the middle of a riverboat wreck. Charbonneau deftly adds a touch of the supernatural to this engrossing tale. Honor to the Hills was recently chosen for the prestigious "Notable Children's Trade Books in the Field of Social Studies" list, compiled by The Children's Book Council and the National Council for the Social Studies

A New Look At Dating and Preparing for a Mate
As a young woman,I had a lot of questions regarding dating and how to pray seriously for a mate. These books addressed those questions really well. I used to think that dating was the ideal way to finding a mate for life. This raised the question of how sure I could be of someone before actually becoming committed to him.Reverend Abella Kasheke has helped me realise that I was planning for a life-long committment the wrong way.The books have caused me to change the manner in which I pray for a husband.I now know that praying diligently and waiting on the Lord faithfully and patiently is the key to finding the perfect mate. The books address these issues and much more practically and I think young women like me will find it really helpful both now and in the future. The books are a 'must-buy'for everyone.

How to Recieve the Agapa Marital Anointing
This book has changed my marriage and my life. The author is very frank and upfront in his discussion of sexual issues and their impact on marriage, society and the church as a whole. Pastor Kasheke reveals how the spirits of control, manipulation and seduction have paralized Christian marriages and ultimately the Body of Christ. The testimonies of couples contained in this book will touch your heart--you will find aspects of your marriage described within the pages of this book. The power of the agape marital anointing is very real. The author walks you through the steps of how to receive anointing power for your marriage. The prayers found in this volume are worth the price of the book--your marriage will never be the same.

Must Have
In addition to be being hilarious, this book actually contains useful information. Up to now, I've known James Gaskins for his excellent technical books. Now I see that he has a great sense of humor as well. I have hundreds of technical books, but books that mix humor and fact as good as this are hard to find.

Too Funny For Words!
A clever look at the wacky world of the internet and the world wide web. The perfect gift for those computer geeks and geekettes in your life!

1998 Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market: 850 Places to Sell Your Work (Serial)
Published in Paperback by Writers Digest Books (January, 1998)

Although the field seems to be getting tighter, the children's-book industry is one of the few remaining in publishing where it's possible to get your foot in the door via the slush pile (without an agent or some other connection). The 1998 Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market, in addition to the usual indispensable listings of book publishers and children's magazines (and electronic publishing, young writer's and illustrator's markets, conferences and workshops, contests and awards, and more), includes interviews with longtime young-adult writer Judy Blume, pop-up master Robert Sabuda, I Spy series creator and photographer Walter Wick, and others. An examination of the book publishers' listings shows an industry-wide desire for books with authentic multicultural themes, bilingual Spanish/English books, and books that help children deal with difficult or unusual situations; there's less interest in alphabet books and anthropomorphism than there was in the past. Perhaps the most important theme is the advice, offered in any number of guises, to respect your audience. "Never dumb a book down," warns Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator/author David Wisniewski. "Don't forget that children are more clever than we give them credit for!" says a representative from publisher Laura Geringer Books. "The kids you're writing for have grown up watching MTV and playing Nintendo," adds Lisa Rao, editor of the children's magazine Dolphin Log. "Don't be overly sweet or cutesy. Nothing turns them off more."

Children's Writer's & Illustrators Market is a choice bundle of help for writers in this genre. So many writers give up on trying to place fiction for adults and fall back to writing for a younger audience because it is easier. It isn't. Today's publishers in this field insist on better quality and finer tuning than ever before. This book provides writers with the specific needs of the major players in this field. There are 850 places to sell your work with more information on specific markets than any other book I know of. It is also great for illustrators. A real bonus is the informative articles and strategies to help writers make money with their writing. Tale Wins Literary Agency specializes in representing children's book authors; I ask every author we have to thoroughly study Children's Writer's & Illustrators Market.

This particular issue has a feature interview with Judy Blume, one of my favorite writers. She wrote ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET, LETTERS TO JUDY, and FOREVER.

definitely taking control!!
This is a book that I couldn't put down once I got started. Everything an asthmatic should know is included in this book, from nutrition, exercise, stress, inhalers, types of medication available, including breathing techniques, choosing the right doctor and there is a section dealing with children and asthma. The writing style is great as the author is actually speaking to the reader. Having grown up with asthma, I encourage families with asthmatic patients to get a copy of this book. It really is a must have for all asthmatics.

A Guide Book to the Natural Arches of the Moab Area (South)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Arch Hunter Books (01 December, 1998)
Authors: Chris Moore and John Remakel
Amazon base price: $6.95
Average review score:

excellent guide to arches outside of arches nat'l park
this (and its companion book for arches to the south) is an excellent guide to arches outside of arches national park. i will say, you really need not only a four-wheel drive vehicle to get to most of these arches but you need one with high clearance and a short wheelbase (i think that is the right way to say it). i have a toyota 4-runner and i wasn't really able to get to many of these either in or out of the park because my car was too long, and i probably needed knobbier tires. there are jeep rental places in moab--it would probably be a good idea to just rent one, as i will do next time, to get out to see these amazing works of nature. another thing to get is a really good map once you get there, because the ones reproduced are really difficult to read. in all other respects it is a great guide!

How to Hold It All Together When You'Ve Lost Your Job (Vgm Career Books)
Published in Paperback by NTC Publishing Group (January, 1996)
Author: Townsend Albright
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $5.64
Average review score:

Financial Sanity When Everything Else Goes Crazy
Townsend Albright has written a wonderful book about holding it all together financially when the unthinkable happens. I loved his ideas about negotiating with mortgage lenders, and for that matter, negotiating with everybody, as an alternative to bankruptcy or other less desirable options. Albright's book helps you keep the wolves at bay while trying to figure out your next step. When all else is bedlam, this must-read provides a sane approach for making it through the night. As an attorney who has helped financially-troubled individuals and others hitting the financial skids, I thought this book was an excellent, non-legal way to survive it all.
