complete, indispensible, current guide to pet medications
Our family rescues homeless dogs and are constant users of vet services and medications. This book is simply indispensible. It is current and complete, including detailed descriptions of prescription and over-the-counter medications: brand and generic names, approved and off-label uses, side-effects, drug-interactions, dosage, special populations affected in particular ways.

The book includes ALL types of drugs, including psycho-active, anti-biotics, wormers, nsaids, EVERYTHING.

My only concern is that this book is not sufficiently cautionary regarding so-called "alternative medicine". For example, it states that "Relying on homeopathic remedies exclusively, or using them intead of safe and effective conventional treatments, is probably not in the best interest of your pet". (page xxxv) This statement is not sufficiently emphatic. In reality, homeopathy is an outdated superstition with no scientific basis WHATEVER.

Finally, I must applaude the authors and Bantam Books for making this fine book available inexpensively.

Absolute Necessity
This is a handy book that tells you what your vet forgets to. It's the most used reference book in my house. What I wish is that an updated version would be published. There are a lot of new drugs on the market. If you are a dog guardian you can't be without this book!

One of those "must haves"
I run an animal rescue and would never be without this book. It lists everything from amounts to side effects. With as many animals as we see a yr, the side effects listing is more than helpful. I also wish an updated version were available as many newer drugs are not covered - but until then - this is the one to own.

Not a doctor but reads like one!
I bought this book after getting fed up taking myself to the doctor to hear that it is just a bad cold or something that could be remedied at home. I had the wonderful experience of letting myself get addicted to nasal decongestant. Not the saline spray! I know that my body can become resistant to antibiotics and the side effects are scary!

This book has all kinds of ailments. It is incredible how many alternatives there are to help with some of them. It is a book that does not just use herbs but items that you may have in your pantry. Who would have thought?

I love this book because he is not writing technical medical jargon. It is all there in laymen's terms to allow us to help ourselves and understand what we are reading. This book is well organized. The book contains the ailments in alphabetical order. You just need to know your ABC's. Their is an index in the back too. In every ailment that is in the book, there is a black box with important info. For example, he mentions that if it feels like this or you have a history of... go to the doctor. In this case he is being cautious and letting us know that the book is not going to help us with everything. There are times that we need to rely on a doctor. In this case, he is not trying to act like the end all and be all of information. This is one thing that disgusts me with other authors that write similar books. They are matter of fact that they will say if you have brain damage make a cup of tea and add eye of newt. It sounds far fetched but have you read some of the books that are out there?

Anyway, I highly recommend this book. It is a great little book: the middle of the night, on the weekend, at work, or on vacation it can hold you together until you can see a doctor. It can help you to cure it on your own. It has almost every ailment in there. It is definitely worth every penny. Here's to good health!

Cheaper than a doctor, and more fun!
This book is an excellent source of information, with thousands of direct-to-the-point pieces of advice that are apparently effective (at least those remedies that I tried worked.) The doctors' advice is clear, direct and absent of techincal medical terms. It's a "do this" and "here's why" kind of advice rather than a lot of theory.

It's also fun to read; I've laughed out loud at some of clever writing. I originally bought this book for medical reference, and wound up taking it with me on vacation for "pleasure" reading. Not only have I learned a lot from it, but I showed it to my doctor and he agreed with the medical effectiveness of those remedies. I bought this book along with the Home Remedies Book for Children, and both are useful. But if you only want/need one, II (the blue cover) is the definite choice. It's more comprehensive and better written.

Cheaper than a doctor's visit -- and more fun!
This book is entertaining AND informative. It covers some of the weirdest and wackiest home remedies you can imagine...all coming (in direct quotes) from doctors, many with very impressive credentials. The introductions to each disease are clever and well-written; some made me laugh out loud, but also full of interesting facts. But always, the medical advice is direct and helpful. (I even asked my own doctor about some of these remedies and he agreed with their medical effectiveness.) I bought both Home Remedies books in the package deal; number II (the sequel) is better than the first Home Remedies book, but both are used a lot. helpful my home. Dollar for dollar, one of the best investments I ever made. Not only have I used many of these remedies, but I have used the book for background information and just to read for enjoyment.

Not just for quilters
I am a crocheter and I do design. I want to thank Nancy Restuccia for this wonderful book. Finally all the little secrets about writing and selling any pattern. So much information in this little book, very easy to read.

Huge Help Getting Started in the Quilt Design Business
Nancy Restuccia's book, with the sidebar additions of Ann Anderson and others, is incredibly helpful to the new designer. I've read it cover to cover and it answered all my questions about how to get started. I followed the pattern cover design layout instructions to a 't', and it yielded a great cover design. I've used the resource list for ordering products and information. There is no other source I have found with this kind of information. Great resource - well written and organized - easy to use the table of contents, with the added bonus of an index, to get back to the specific piece of information you need.

Everything you need to know....
This book is incredible! The only bad thing about this book is that it wasn't around when I started ... If I had this book, it would've saved me hours of research and time. This book needs to be an essential item for ANYONE interested in becoming a quilt professional in any arena - not just publishing patterns!

An Excellent Book for Children's Book Writers!
I have been writing children's books and articles about children's books for approximately twenty years. (I am a former teacher and school librarian.) When I began writing full time, I read THE WRITER and WRITER'S DIGEST cover-to-cover each month. And I ordered many of the books those magazines published about writing, preparing mss., querying, marketing etc. I knew that I knew nothing about building characters and plots and less about the publishing industry. Three years after beginning my new career, I was fortunately offered a contract by Franklin Watts for a nonfiction book, PIRATES, now out of print. Well, the publishing industry has stayed the same in some ways but has become even more difficult to break into these days. As much as I've learned about publishing companies over the years, IT'S A BUNNY-EAT-BUNNY WORLD gave me insight into many things I was unaware of. Ms. Litowinsky has been an editor, agent, and author and provides a realistic inside look into publishing houses. (I have read at least 3 of her well-written insightful books.) I am grateful for the new information she gave me. But when she revises this BUNNY BOOK, I hope she will add a chapter on the accuracy of Amazon and BN.com sales rankings and best-selling lists as well as book tracking information. Thank you, Ms. Litowinsky. K.J. McWilliams, author of The Journal of Darien Dexter Duff, an Emancipated Slave, The Diary of a Slave Girl, Ruby Jo, and The Journal of Leroy Jeremiah Jones, a Fugitive Slave

Hare's to a Great Book about Writing for Children
This is easily one of the best books available about writing for children. It provides a clear explanation about the factors that acquisition editors consider when evaluating manuscripts and explains how to avoid looking like one of those writers who believes that children will read anything so long as it is cute. It also shows how to make a submission look professional and describes the proper etiquette of approaching editors and agents. Several books are available about this subject but this one, in my opinion, gives the most specific, helpful, and realistic advice.

Like "Watership Down." Only bloodier.
OK, I'm exaggerating.

There aren't any scenes of cute li'l bunnies ripping out each other's throats, but there ARE true and sometimes terrifying tales of what goes on behind the scenes in the children's book trade. Having seen the biz from three sides (author, editor, agent), Olga Litowinsky gives us a frank, refreshing, and often scary alternative to the glut of "Read this and you WILL get published, GUARANTEED!" tomes crowding the shelves.

From editors who steal ideas for successful new book series to editorial meetings where potentially great books meet their end, "It's a Bunny-Eat-Bunny World" takes the reader behind closed doors to see the stuff we're not supposed to see. The book also follows the publishing adventures of a fictionalized author selling his first book and showing the first-time author what to expect after signing on the dotted line. Often, it's another several months of even harder work than writing the manuscript for the book.

Beyond being a guide for writers, "It's a Bunny-Eat-Bunny World" will also give parents, teachers, librarians and anyone else who buys children's books a fascinating insider's view. Once you read it, you'll realize that every cute li'l bunny on the cover of a children's book had to claw his way there.

A Must Buy!
If you are a Black writer who wants to get your book published you must buy Ms. Gibson's book. It tells you everything you need to know and breaks it down in little baby steps. It also has examples of press releases, querry letters, and a sample of a synopsis. If you're serious about getting published hunt this book down anyway you can.

Thanks Aliona, An Inspiration...
I bought her first book "Nappy" and thought that it was one of the best works published that year. I'm very happy to see that she has written this this book to help out struggling black writers such as myself. I went out and bought the book as soon as it hit the shelves and I must say that it has proven to be a very good investment. It is jam packed with information for anyone of any color who wishes to pursue a career in writing.

INFORMATIVE, INSIGHTFUL!!!
This work was excellent, as it gave advice to the black writer. I found it very useful and I believe it is the only publication of it's kind. Aliona Gibson shared her publishing experiences, good and bad. This is a must read for black writers and self publishers.

Approachable, practical, insightful! For all authors.
You Can Market Your Book is an easy read, but don't let that fool you. It's brimming with solid, practical ideas and real-life examples of how to promote your book. Best of all are the stories of how other authors did it. Another bonus is the inclusion of short articles by other authors which spotlight promotion, creating press releases, and how to handle those nerve-wracking interviews!

The subtitle is "All the Tools You Need to Sell Your Published Book" with a tool box on the cover. Consistent with this theme are the four helpful sections inside: 1) "Project and Site Preparation," which covers conception, design, and obtaining endorsements and reviews. 2) "Choosing the Right Tools and Materials" discusses press releases, creative promotion ideas, making your book signing an EVENT, developing a speaking platform, and online promotion. 3) "Finding the Right Subcontractors" deals with publicists, using radio, and how to market to libraries. 4) "Executing Your Plan" delivers success stories and final words of encouragement.

Author Carmen Leal expertly addresses issues for both self-published authors as well as traditionally-published authors. I am amazed at the number of resources and websites she includes in this book. Get your highlighter ready, because you'll need it to mark all the great ideas in YOU CAN MARKET YOUR BOOK!

~Kimn Swenson Gollnick, coauthor of GETTING YOUR FINANCIAL HOUSE IN ORDER (Broadman & Holman, September 2003)

A must-read for Christian authors and self-publishers
Other books have been written about marketing your book, but Ms. Leal addresses book marketing from the unique perspective of the Christian author. I found the contact information for Christian book reviewers, media outlets and websites very helpful (something I had not seen in other books). I would strongly recommend the title to anyone who wants to reach the Christian market with the book she feels she has been called to write.

You Can Market Your Book
You Can Market Your Book is a gem for writers who are serious about the business of not only getting published, but getting their books read! The author leaves no stones unturned, taking you on a detailed journey from conception to completion. She not only gives you the basics, but even addresses those frustrating exceptions to the rule.

If you have an idea or a manuscript that's been sitting on your shelf, this book will be nothing short of an empowering discovery-- that you have all the tools you need!

A great book!
Having been inducted into the honorable and prestigious Order of the Bat'leth, Captain Klag commands one of a number of ships sent into the Kavrot Sector to find new planets to conquer for the Klingon Empire. However, what he finds is a planet populated by the Children of San-Tarah, a species perhaps more dedicated to the warrior ethos than the Klingons themselves. Having proved themselves worthy opponents, the San-Tarah make Klag an offer he can't refuse. The Klingons and the San-Tarah will compete in five contests - if the Klingons win then the world and its people belong to the Empire, but if the San-Tarah win then the Klingons will leave and never return. With such an honorable and glorious tournament it is indeed a good day to die! But, before it's over, Klag will find his ability and his honor tasked to the breaking point.

I must admit that I have not read many Star Trek books lately, but this book was definitely one worth returning for! The author really brings the Klingons alive in this story, giving the reader a real feel for them. I enjoyed the story, the action, the characters and (definitely) the glossary of Klingon terms at the end. This is a great book, one that I highly recommend to all fans of science-fiction!

Good stuff.
Highly amusing. Action packed. Even for non-Klingon speaking life forms. Excellent characters.

Certainly the best Trek to be found at the moment.

Arg mate
Possibly the single most popular alien from the Star Trek universe, now had their own heroes to worship and follow into battle.

Keith R. A. DeCandido has been developing this crew and the characters over a few a few books and stories and I am excited that they have been pulled from the tight ties of the Federation and sent out to conquer their own destinies.

This is the first of a two part series and I stand up and applaud the master talent applied to making this story its own work by itself. We get to see characters introduced in various small screen series developed into stars in their own right. This is some of the best writing I have experienced in a long time.

Take the time and attack this novel, you will love it.

I passed the bar exam with the memory book
Well, it was a very OLD edition of the memory book, cira 1976. But back in 1976 I did memorize the ENTIRE BRI bar exam course book, a huge outline of the law. No kidding, I could recite the entire outline, using a slight modification of Harry Lorraine's techniques. As a fellow law student said while I was giving a demonstration, "it's a trick!" Exactly, it is a trick. Memorizing doesn't help you UNDERSTAND what you are reciting. But you won't forget it, short term. The other caveat is, having memorized it, you do have to PRACTICE recalling it. Lorraine's techniques, at least circa 1976, didn't result in immediate storage into long-term memory. That requires recalling the information repeatedly. Also, the techniques themselves require practice, just as developing any other skill does. The work is only justified if you have a need to memorize a little data often, or a lot of data at least occasionally.

Fantastic Book, but be prepared to invest some time
It's a fantastic book that will help you instantly to memorize all 50 states in alphabetical order or any number of items on a shopping list (even two days later). But be prepared to spend some time and effort until you will be able to make the system work for you for some "real-life" challenges like giving a speech, improving reading abilities, or memorize difficult vocabularies of a foreign language. If you make the decision to do so, the techniques described will add a lot of value in all areas of your life, especially for those who suffer from a poor memory. The text and the dialogues are written nicely, so it is actually fun to read. Also, the chapters are categorized into specific abilities, like name remembering, again, speeches, etc., which makes it easy to pick your own selection without reading the entire book.

Valuable techniques
This book definately requires work. It is a "How To" guide which will only be effective if the reader is committed to putting in the work of practicing the techniques explained. I think one of the most interesting aspects of this is that good memory, like many other things, can be a LEARNED skill.
I found this book after searching specifically for a helpful one to improve my poor memory. In particular, I went from being a very good law student who was a capable researcher and writer and preformed well on essay exams in school, and even won a competitive moot court competition based on advocacy skills, to a JD who failed the BAR Exam multiple times due to an inability to remember details and jargon. After time with every legal study aid possible, I turned to resources to improve my memory. While I unfortunately can't yet say I have passed the BAR exam, I can say that I have noticed a significant improvement in my relationship with my husband and others as I have become more attentinve to remembering details and with the techniques in this book thus have become a more dependable person. In the past when he or anyone else asked me to do things, though I was well intentioned and sincere in my "Yes", I had a serious problem with follow up due to inattentiveness and poor memory skills. This book was most helpful as an aid to overcoming those limitations and assisited me in becoming a more responsible and less absentminded irritating person to be around.
As a serious, logical, pragmatic person, this book was helpful in specificallly giving me the prompt to think of silly associations with the specific intent of remembering items. That would be something I wouldn't have ever NATURALLY done on my own! In discussing it with others I have found that many people ALREADY utilize many of the memory techniques described, and they were surprised these were new to me. This book is most helpful for those of us who just haven't gotton into those habits. As someone who NEVER could even remember any of those numonics throughout school it was a relief to discover that there are other techniques which are more effective for me. The book also discusses how memory and intelligence are distinct, and that the problem of poor memory, and in particular absentmindedness is one of not being fully consious in the moment. It is helpful in identifying the source of many memory problems is simply not being in the habit of focusing on the mundane with full attention. Making that ASSUMPTION that something is "simple" and "easy" and therefore doesn't require much time and attention is a trap I more consiously avoid after employing the techniques of this book. The disctinction between intellegence and memory is one which I feel is helpful as it validates those of us who have great capacity to understand things easily, but little capacity to recall. That distinction made me as reader feel more empowered to use memory as a TOOL, and I believe offers needed encouragement to anyone who has struggled in either work, school or their personal life due to poor memory skills.
