Simple and Straightforward; A Helpful Book
I wrote this review originally in Learning A Living; A Guide to Planning Yor Career and Finding A Job for People with Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Dyslexia;

The title page reads: "A simple, straightforward job-search book for people who would rather be working than reading a book" It is 88 pages long and is packed with creative pointers. It begins by disucssing your attitude and ends by telling you how to handle a job offer. Included are sections on identifying your skills, researching the job, doing well on interviews, finding leads, and managing your time. One section covers disability issues.

A must-have for all job seekers
This book is a comprehensive and easy to read manual for job seekers. It covers not only the standards of job search (resumes, cover letters, etc.), but also the more elusive points of a successful search: networking, interviewing, and using the telephone. It offers some creative ideas to set you apart from the crowd.

Equally important, it is designed to be a reference manual with easy to find sections and lots of tables and charts.

As a career coach, I have read hundreds of books on resumes and job search and can tell you that this is by far the bible of job search. It is truly a must-have for all job seekers.

Finally something on Limerick !
Finally something on County Limerick families and genealogy that is not bound in paper ! Lots of families here so don't expect a 12 page dissertation on any one family - but I really learned a lot and enjoyed browsing the pages here at the Irish Genealogical Foundation Library.

RESPIRATORY CARE EXAM REVIEW
I wasn't to pleased with the book. I have read the book from cover to cover, numerous times and thought I knew all the info for the RRT exam. Well, I took the RRT exams and didn't pass either one. The majority of the highlighted material wasn't even covered on the exam. Further more, what was on the tests weren't really covered in depth in this book. For the cd- it was good because it was based on what the computerized test was really like. I felt confident when I was ready to take my tests but not pleased with the results. I also found of few flaws, like mispelled words, missing words on the cd??????? and very confusing ways to do the equations and ABG's.

A good place to prepare yourself
If you want to have a clearer idea of what you are going to find in the CRT test this book will help you. the terminology is real simple, going straight to the point, pointing out what to focus on that will be on the test and what will not. You won't loose time on information that you don't need. It really help me.

Wonderfully Written
This book is well written and for some reason just clicked with me. There were things explained in this book that I couldn't just grasp during my training in Respiratory School. Because of this book, I passed the certification exam on the first try. Thank you Mr. Persing.

Castles of Britain and Ireland: The Ultimate Reference Book with Over 1,350 Gazetteer Entries

Good mix of art and info
Plantagenet Somerset Fry, who also gave us "Kings & Queens of England and Scotland," is a deft hand a giving fascinating tidbits of information and lots of great graphics to keep the pages turning. While there is much more gray in "Castles," it is a comfortable mix of scholarly information and pedestrian description that allows a pseudo-historian like myself to experience the world of castles throughout the centuries.

where are the awards?
This book should have been up for some awards. Perhaps the National Book Award? Fans of the often overlooked Wendell Berry and those new to his poetry will certainly cherish this collection. Though Berry occasionally comes very close to slipping into a sappy Christian, Hallmark-like verse in a couple of poems, he does redeem himself with the next poem--most notable "The Vacation."

Exceptionally illuminating book
Summary:

Provides great understanding of the American emotions and perceptions to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The newspaper articles illustrate what was known, feared, supposed, and not known to the everyday person.

Recommendation:

Highly recommended for those who wish to understand yesterdays actions and ramifications so as to not repeat history's mistakes.

Review:

Includes US newspaper clippings, as well as Japanese newspapers. Begins with a San Francisco Examiner front page from June , 1926 reading: "Secret Plans of Japanese General Staff Preparing for War with a Western Power".

Today, we can read that same headline in Bejing, siting war to be waged in the year 2022.

Later, after the Pearl Harbor attack, the Japanese Times and Advertiser newspaper front page reads: "Brilliant War Results Revealed". Further, note the spin by the Japanese: "It is the unshakable policy of the Japanese Empire to preserve stability in East Asia and to contribute towards world peace..." This was the excuse for initiating war with the US, for the purpose of waging peace!

Today, we could hypothetically replace these words with, a Saudi Arabian newspaper reading, "Bin Ladin's Brilliant Results Revealed", "It is the unshakable policy of the Al Qaida to contribute to Muslim world peace in the name of Allah...."

Each of the 93 pages is essentially a front page but, sometimes (two pages make up the entire front page. With the exception of the 1926 front page, and a December 7, 1945 front page, the book provides 46 newspaper articles date from December 1, 1941 to March 7, 1942.

Negative:

Some of the articles have very small print, and are therefore more difficult to read.

Also, the author allows the newspapers to speak for themselves. However, it would have been better to have had some comments, or ancillary information provided.

Not Great, not bad
This book is great for the CD-ROM that comes with it to study for the Written portion of the Exam. On the other hand I don't think it does a very good job explaining the Practical, it may be out of date because they changed the format a little. The practice test for the Written Sim is to easy compared to the real one that you will take. Overall it is O.K., but maybe out of date even though it is only a few years old.
